One thing I felt very disappointed with Malay S’pore is their kids generation don’t speak Malay. They may understand when their elders speak to them but they’ll reply in English. Few more generation their heritage will be gone if don’t preserve. I kena praise before that my Malay much better than their kids

Actually what is the difference. In Indonesia, majority don't identify as Malay, because they're not actually Malay. Indonesians have Javanese, Sundanese, Malays, Batak, Madurese, Balinese, and so on. Basically Indonesia doesn't have the concept of Indonesia Malay. They all identify as Indonesian. |

For the non-cina educated ones they speak English more often. Either way they don't focus on BM which is a shame because it portrays failure on upholding our national identity. But then again can be faulted meh? Meleis here say Cina in Indonesia all integrated can speak indon well, but truth is, when shit hit the fan, Cina gets singled out as bogeyman again. Aiya better speak English than the bahasa wicet ler. Anyway there's too much emphasis on culture and language. Let the strong survive, for now English is the most useful language thus more smart people will be using it, perhaps at the expense of other languages. Survival of the fittest, that includes language too

QUOTE(p4n6 @ Sep 13 2025, 12:05 PM) Alot of chinese in Malaysia also dont speak their own dialect anymore, all mandarin-washed already. Alot chinese ancestors from China to malaya dont even speak mandarin, all speak dialects … but now their grand children all speak Mandarin. How to comm with ancestors in Vahalla? Mandarin becomes official language of China in 1932 … chinese migrated to malaya in 19th century to early 20th century … Yup.Malay in SG dun speak malay speak english = not okay Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, Teochew dun speak own dialect, speak Mandarin (other ethnic dialect) = okay ??? All wanna be champions for their culture and race. Forget that these will evolve as history has proven. |

QUOTE(MR_alien @ Sep 13 2025, 11:46 AM) Go overseas also identify themselves as Singaporean....cannot be mistaken as Malaysian or indon Most of my friends (both type M n C) always say they are Singaporeans. If needed, have to take out passport to flash to them Heck even Malaysian go overseas, people ask you from where...some also lie and say from Singapore You get much better service and respect. Malaysians are laughing stock to most foreigners. We are notorious for 1000 yen a day in Nippon, A$10 in Ausie etc |
