For a single phase landed property, if change to 3 phases because of EV.
What can we do with the other 2 phases other than charging EV?

the 3 phase work together, you can't isolate each phase lol
Single-phase power uses one "hot" and one neutral wire, while three-phase power uses three "hot" wires and one neutral wire. Three-phase power offers higher voltage and power levels, making it suitable for industrial and commercial applications, while single-phase power is more common for residential and smaller commercial settings. QUOTE(ipohps3 @ Jun 22 2025, 03:26 PM) the 3 phase work together, you can't isolate each phase lol I mean, the house is only single phase, even if we installed 3 phases, we will still be using single phase unless we rewire the whole house.Single-phase power uses one "hot" and one neutral wire, while three-phase power uses three "hot" wires and one neutral wire. Three-phase power offers higher voltage and power levels, making it suitable for industrial and commercial applications, while single-phase power is more common for residential and smaller commercial settings. As a result, the other 2 phases (together with 1 existing phase) can only be used for EV. If the power is balanced between 3 phases (like charging EV), we don' need neutral. If not balanced, will get poor power factor, and will be fined by TNB????? amad108 liked this post

only if car needs 11 or 22 kwh...
can dedicate each floor 1 phase... kitchen 1 phase... no power factor requirements for residential |

QUOTE(jibpek @ Jun 22 2025, 03:19 PM) For a single phase landed property, if change to 3 phases because of EV. how many km do you drive each day? What can we do with the other 2 phases other than charging EV? You may not even need to change to 3 phase or install a wallbox if you drive less than 60km a day for example a granny charger can get you 2kW per hour. You charge overnight for 8 hours is enough to get you 15-16kWh |

QUOTE(jibpek @ Jun 22 2025, 03:19 PM) For a single phase landed property, if change to 3 phases because of EV. Only the EV charger will use 3 phase. All your other house loads will be single phase but distributed between the 3 phases (Red, Yellow, Blue) to balance usage between the three phases. What can we do with the other 2 phases other than charging EV? Three phase load use RYB Single phase load use R-N or Y-N or B-N ktek liked this post
