Spending your entire year's worth of saving on something that depreciate in value, have you tried it before?

It could be a super gaming PC, a car, a vacation, whatever.

Will you get buyer remorse?

Imagine you saved up 1 year worth of your salary and then you buy a car with cash. Would you feel the buyer remorse after a few days driving the car?

I think most Malaysian doesn't feel it when they buy a car because they are paying on instalment. Psychology wise, it doesn't feel like you've worked your entire year just for that one thing.

It doesn't earn you money.

Once spent, that is it, money gone.

Imagine you've saved up 1 year worth of savings and then you spend on a 2 weeks "Arctic Odyssey" vacation which cost about RM50k.

1 year worth of blood sweat and tears gone in just 2 weeks of adventure.

Of course it doesn't feel that way if you are filthy rich or doing it when you are already retired with more than enough money till you know you can't bring to your grave.

People save up money to chase their dream sometime. They see the value differently than you

Eg some people dump a year saving into camera kit. But they enjoy every single moment of it

No point to judge others.

what you are describing is one off payment, which can applies to all/any buy & sell transaction.

for something to ‘depreciate’ in value, it must be something you are still holding on over a period of time, after the purchase happened.
vacation is about experiences which are not tangible thing.

If you are asking if it is worth it then I would say it depends on how you view it.

If you are talking about spending a few months of savings to eat at Salt Bae's restaurant then no, it is not worth it for me.

there will always be some remorse if you have a frugal mindset. like for example sure in travelling the experience is great and priceless. but ultimately these are optional thing to do in life? you can still live without travelling

I spent my entire year saving but only amounting to my month salary for my mum’s cancer surgery some years ago.

Totally worth it.

Been there done that. I dump all my yearly savings into investment. No holiday. Nothing to buy. Now free RM30k/year+. Nothing feels better than getting paid to do nothing.

Use money, feel happy then what price also worth.

Use money but not happy, what also scam.

Same like go 2feidei port. U found nice ride U happy no scam. Bad ride then scam.

Food or vacation or whatever also same. Janji happy. If not, what also scam

you probably will, but you know what's even worse? waiting until you're financially stable to finally buy your dream car, only to realize you're too old for it. the ride feels too harsh on your aching body, it's too loud for your already weak hearing, and way too cramped for your swollen belly. same thing with people who wait until middle age to build their dream gaming cave, only to find they barely have time to enjoy any of it.
