student say got black smoke / smelly , i suspect is brake issue, had once before when go genting highland and go back
*
Brake overheat will get burned, gives off smell and smoke, eventually the brake will fail.

The problem with Auto car owner is rely on brakes to slow down instead of engine braking using lower gear.

Not sure bus nowaddays still use manual or already transition to auto.

Just read X. Apparently the driver of bus is lorry driver. The original driver could not make it and replaced with lorry driver..

Anyway, our best Transport sales minister has spoken. Hahahahaha….

Show-cause letter issued to bus operator after fatal crash

PETALING JAYA: The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) has issued a show-cause letter to the operator of the bus involved in the accident that killed 15 university students early this morning, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

He said the action was taken immediately after the incident as part of the government’s commitment to ensure passenger safety and hold operators accountable.

“At the same time, the road transport department (JPJ) is carrying out a safety inspection and audit on the bus and the company involved under the Road Transport Act and Land Public Transport Act,” he said in a Facebook post.

Loke said both agencies are working closely to determine if there was any negligence or failure to comply with safety standards by the company.

The minister said further action would be taken based on the outcome of the audit and investigation.

A total of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students died in the crash on the Gerik-Jeli East West Highway, near Tasik Banding.

A total of 48 victims were involved: 42 students, the bus driver and his assistant, and a married couple along with their six-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, who were in a Perodua Alza the bus collided with.

Earlier, the bus operator said the vehicle had been recently serviced while the driver, loaned from another company, had a clean record and was regarded as responsible.

If brake failed, driver shouldn't be overtaking dashcam car.

And he could gradually slow down by downshifting & engine brake. Not oversteer sampai bus fell sideways.

Hope jpj polis insurance do a throughout investigation on the bus and driver

I think what he meant was auto car driver rely on brake because they don’t know what engine braking is. My cars, none of them downshift to appropriate gear when going down hill, I needed to manually shift them to lower gears until I was able to maintain speed rather than accelerate.

And yeah, most cars in front of me normally with brake lights on, meaning they continuously braking rather brake and downshift.

What inspector general said is correct. u can have many many rules..but if no one follow the rules, at one time, gomen also cannot do anything..and that whats happen in malaysia. its shared responsibility to make our road safer. not authority jobs alone, and driver not playing their parts to make our road safer.

Assumption :

1. Bus driver see chance - overtake.

2. Bus driver didn't expect he's overtaking near a corner.

3. Sudah overtake, want to go back own lane - "ah shit, corner la shibal"

4. Bus driver had to make split-second decision :
-- a) drive head-on onto railing (and end up in the gaung), or
-- b) try to steer the corner

5. In the split second decision, instinct kicked-in, driver of course steer his body away from the railings
(but of course bus driver takde otak will not care about the passengers)

6. Bus got oversteered, hit the railings anyway & overturned.

7. Left side of the bus (if you see from behind) hit the railings & skidded ON the railings for a few hundred meters.

8. Passengers on that side got dismal chance to avoid being pinned onto the railings.

Verdict : bus driver & assistant should be sentenced to death by hanging.

Well, the assistant is dead....

What authority can do is the very least be serious with compounds, traffic offences.

No 1, DO NOT offer discount. What"s in the system stays in the system. Pay up or bar from road tax renewal, blacklist from insurance renewal, the vehicle bar from inspection. Unpaid summons drag drivers, registered owner jointly to court.

The problem with Msia, selective enforcement.

Cowboy.
