Depends on the games you want to play and you fps expectation and tolerant. May I know the reason you choose a 8gb vram on a 3070 to begin with?
Outside of the 8gb, I think 3070 is still a very serviceable gpu.

Right now mainly playing valorant and some older games. With my new qd-oled monitor, want to play some eye candy AAA games.

Was previously upgrading from Gtx 1060, so the 3070 was a good upgrade coz I only had a 1080p monitor and played older games so the vram was not an issue but seems like it might be an issue at 1440p.

With an uplift < 10 FPS more than your 3070, dont even bother to upgrade

To max out your monitor you need at least

VRAM issue is only an issue with sloppy poorly made games. When a developer does a good job you get this

For new AAA eye candy, 8gb is OK if you can mid graphic settings to maintain fps. Or if you can accept lower fps to max graphic settings. However, in that case, might as well don't upgrade.
I think to enjoy eye candy, a 5070ti would be a more reasonable option.

Will postpone upgrading for now and see whether my 3070 can handle the AAA games with moderate settings.

Like a career, you would want to maintain same tier or better, so your target should be at 5070 or 5070TI. Since you have a gamer monitor, if your not aiming at least 5070TI with that swweettt 16GB VRAM for the futureproof gaming, your not a true gamer. [According to certain people]

TLOU2 is known to be a VRAM hog. For what reason I have no idea. When CO is visually better yet eats less, theres some optimisation that Naughty Dog could have done but didnt.

Your 3070 only has 8GB VRAM so its unworthy to game now, throw it into the trash [according to certain people].
If you cant maintain, your a poorfag & not worth to game [according to certain people].
If your a real gamer, you will find way to afford that 5070TI (like dont eat lunch for a few months or something) [according to certain people].
Only a true gamer considers GPU RM 3k & above. Anything cheaper is trash with insufficient VRAM [according to certain people].

For 1440p and above, having 12GB+ card will give you way lower stuttering. If you stay with 1080p and/or with DLSS, then the insufficient memory issue should be gone.

Thanks. Will give it a try first and also try out DLSS, if it works well enough, then will postpone any purchase for now.

There is, if run into VRAM issue when TS starts cranking up the settings. Not to say there will also be missing texture. cool2.gif

You need at least 30% more performance to consider an upgrade. You'll be looking at RX 9070 XT or 5070 Ti 16GB. Or 5070 12GB if you still game at 1080p.

Yeah, and its even worse for weaker CPUs.
