Grimsby is not about system. In fact, they may be the only opposition we had in 2 years where we can say this. Against fourth tier opposition, our "world class paid players" are expected to go out and dominate even if they were told to just have fun. It's like playing Kelantan FC (with all due respect to them) in a friendly, United are still expected to win even if the manager doesn't turn up. These aren't reserve players. This is our first team.

Grimsby is never about the manager.
It is a reflection of the players.

Which is why Amorim was so upset after. Saying what the players wanted to show was loud and clear.

And if we can be on point, no player really played out of position.
Maguire did not play RW, Onana did not play CM and Bruno did not play CB.

All players played in a position they are familiar with. Bruno played in a deeper number 8 role, which he has played many times durnig his time with United.
Bruno's 3 most played positions are the number 10, RW and a deeper number 8 at United. Amad was playing a deeper WB instead of a more attacking RW, but there are enough overlaps between the two positions to make it similar. Especially it is still the main attacking thrust from the right, just starting off deeper.


Manchester United made Grimsby Town look like Arsenal. That's some achievement.
