Greetings everyone,

I'm currently looking for a new TV for my family to replace our 13-year-old Panasonic.

TBH I am quite tempted with the TCL C6K since it is miniLED and really affordable, but kind of hard to convince my family since they don't want China brand for some reason.

Also, I am looking for something that lasts for at least 5-7 years, preferably more, so OLED is not an option even though I would love to have one.

So, here are the models, all are 55-inches:

1. TCL C6K: RM2.3k-2.5k, miniLED, looks great to my eyes given the price

2. Sony X85L: RM3.5k, VA panel, also looks good considering the panel

3. Sony X90L: RM4.5k, similar as X85L but with better processor

4. Wait for more models, probably LG QNED86A or Sony Bravia 5, both miniLED as well

Which one would be the best pick of the above?

All opinions are welcome. Thanks!

Which model did you go for? I’m also surveying for a TV for my console either TCL C6K or Hisense U6K. Hisense released a newer U6Q model a bit pricier than U6K.

You didn't state your budget. And also, why OLED is not an option? I have a 5-year-old OLED which is still functioning well, and my Sony X90K LED TV just died after 2.5 years. Nowadays new TV quality is not as good compared to older days.

Bravia 5 will be the best among the tvs you listed. However, expect the price will be similar to the launch price of x90l two years ago, because sony will position Bravia5 to replace x90l.

I cant comment on sony tv's longevity because some owners shared in the sony thread, the x90 series die after the warranty ended.

LG QNED? LG only makes good OLED tvs.. their led tvs cannot compete with the big boys.

i am afraid of sony tv's longevity but seriously for TV, sony is my only choice which i cannot accept other brands, i may still go with sony anytime.

bravia 5 should be a decent choice, i saw it in person and comparing to bravia 9 which i saw in the sony centre, i would say that it is not too far off, both due to the limitation of mini-LED and not OLED, none of them can achieve true black and still have blooming.

personally i will only buy OLED though becos the picture quality is day and night difference comparing to the mini-LED. it is something that one can immediate tell the difference when they see a OLED and mini-led TV side by side.

OLED is the way to go. but honestly though, on a moderately-lit room, mini-LED is quite close to OLED (at least in term of black). The biggest advantage if OLED is the wide viewing angle while retaining the picture quality. My kids have grown up so my next living room upgrade will be OLED.. in 5 years time, i'm sure 65" OLED price will be more reasonable. for the time being, let the kids enjoy (and abuse) the mini-LED tv while I enjoy the OLED in the bedroom haha.

Yes wide viewing angle is also the greatest advantage especially for big family with ppl view the tv from different angle.
Even u make ur kids stand at the side as punishment, they can still ā€˜enjoy’ the tv. 🤪

And oled tv is using dc dimming instead of pwm so no flickering at all, better for keys actually.

Not to mention, OLED utilises less electricity than lcd. So save on electricity bill also.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.

Currently looking for Sony Bravia 5, LG QNED86 (2025) or C5, and TCL C6K.

Budget: 4.5k and below
Use case: Sports, movies, Malay drama (ask my family lol) and news, no gaming (cannot plug in PS5 because of GTA)

Current prices:

1. Bravia 5 around 5.5k, which is a lot for mini LED
2. C6K can still get around 2.5-2.7k
3. QNED86 (2025) also mini LED, around 3.6-3.7k
4. C5 sits in just nicely at 4.5-4.6k, 48 inch though while the rest are all 55 inch

Should we just shoot up for C5 since it looks like the best deal compared to the rest or save up and just get C6K?

Thanks a lot

Another option, i was browsing LG's website and found out there is QNED92, supposedly the top of the line miniLED from them. It was in stock a few days ago.

LG is having a promotion, 65" QNED92 for rm6999 plus TnG rebate of RM2800. That massive deal man. Based on my past experience of redeeming TnG from LG, took me 60days to get the rebate credited to my eWallet. This TV is now out of stock, but do check often.

In other region, this model is called QNED93 and from the ealy reviews, it seems promising.

The Bravia 5 features near flagship level of performance for an LCD , but at the price of a mid-range TV ( for Sony anyway ).
Sony LCDs that are tagged " Backlight Master Drive " usually has remarkable performance local dimming & black level performance .

It is still pricey because it is pretty new , so we expect the price to go down to the same lvl as X90L by the end of the year.

I would NOT recommend getting any LG OLEDs from this year due to their major issue with HDR10. Until it is solved ( which it hasn't , afaik ) , any recommendation or debate is pointless unless you don't plan to watch any HDR1 on it at all.

Actually we decided to hold out dulu, and we are aiming for Bravia 5 if possible. The other alternative would be X90L only if the price is close to or below 4k. That is just my idea lah.

Nearly got the X85L at 3k flat on 6.6, but my family not convinced.

OLED out of the question, the TV space got windows behind so not suitable.

yes the mid range cannot compete with other brands, but the new qned92 (93 in other regions) may be good, based on early reports. wait for full reviews from reputable sites than we see if this model is up to mark.

Our TV space are not suitable for OLED, got stained windows on the left and curtained ones on the back even though our space is not super bright. So, Mini-LED is our best bet atm.

Can confirm. Took a brief look at the newer QNED86 and the image looks meh. X90L or even X85L looks more pleasing to me. Bravia 5 obviously no contest.

not really. OLED is not bright enough this statement has been not so much an issue nowadays.

my 2021 model of A80J (OLED) sony tv serves me well even during day time without the need to close the curtain.

and the high contrast and true black are something that once u experience u can never go back.

if budget constraint, then yes, LCD is still an option, but comes to ultimate experience, OLED is still the best. tongue.gif

and advice is also: dun try to experience OLED in the first place if u dun intend to spend the budget for it. becos u will be sold by it immediately. tongue.gif

i had the similar mindset previously that LCD is actually not bad, and why need to spend money to go for OLED.

But ever since i had experienced, i know why the extra money is worthwhile to spend.

dun recommend that. they are using OEM panels from other manufacturers and rebrand it only and sell at slightly cheaper price, but the picture quality is never good enough...

even their monitors may seems to be cheap but i would rather older brand like viewsonic, price is cheaper but colour in my opinion is even better than dell higher range products U series.
I own them so i know.

On 6.6 saw x90l 55inc at 3.5k and bravia 5 inch at 5.5k all with voucher on lajada, shall wait for 11.11 for further discount

RTINGS Sony BRAVIA 5 Review

Looks like the performance is average for today's standard.

Just saw it. For 5.5k kind of hambar imo. Thought maybe just go for either Sony X90L, LG C5, B4 or maybe B5 if it arrives. TCL C6K definitely last option.

dun recommend that. they are using OEM panels from other manufacturers and rebrand it only and sell at slightly cheaper price, but the picture quality is never good enough...

even their monitors may seems to be cheap but i would rather older brand like viewsonic, price is cheaper but colour in my opinion is even better than dell higher range products U series.
I own them so i know.

Tangent abit.. how about BenQ monitors I been eyeing the 32 inch for awhile now..

Oh ya, so quick update

We ended up getting the X90L, got one around below 4.4k. I will be testing it over the weekend (F1 weekend also), so we will see how it goes.

From my R&D experience, I would say:

Image processing = Sony
Value = TCL
OLED = LG

Samsung lineup not interesting for me & I got no experience with Hisense, so cannot comment on that

With distance to tv at 4.5m, is it right to say i need to go with at least 75inch tv?

currently owned Samsung OLED TV. I am exploring X90L, LG QNED86 at the moment. Or without burning holes to my wallet, there are xiaomi mini led (spec wise looks quite good) or tcl. I am trying to keep at 6k budget, but open to top up if it is good cp.

Usage wise mostly for movie, with some future consideration of gaming.

Will be good to get some opinions from lyn pros smile.gif

4.5m distance is very far leh… u sure ur measure of distance got no prob? Ur bungalow must be real big.

4.5m even 75 inch is too small for that.

Just 2m distance alone 55-inch just barely enough.
With 65-inch only considered just nice.

4.5m u can image what size needed.

4.5m is crazy far, consider reducing the distance.

TCL C6K is your best bet for 75 inch, can get well under 6K.

Probably China import one, never buy overseas unit for any electronics.

Always go for local stock, like Senheng, official shop or authorised dealer.

let said your budget 3.5k

2.5k ~ 3.5k quality different is almost = none if you compare like this:

3.5k TV VS 3.5k ( switch + tv ) for example.

Meaning a 2.5k + 1k switch, the overall experience wayyyyy better then just a 3.5k TV.

My2 cent, TV screen quality itself is not that important. if the TV is off most the time + watching Youtube mostly.....

High Quality TV very very depend on Media you consume.

For me, to maximize a TV "Experience"
You need accesories. like console, switch or PC.

Unless you tell me, you have no limit budget.
But if you have limit.

You need to consider, because TV is a Output device. not the content ITSELF.

Hi can you recommend any movies or show worth watching in oled?

Just wanna see actual difference

I have oled 4k tv lg b2 (if not mistaken) and aorus 4k fo32up oled monitor

But mostly i only played ps5/pc with it

But i also watch 4k tv (non oled) (low or mid end 4k lg uhd tv i think at my cousin house..he buy around 2k
yes oled is nice but I dont really see much difference apart from the tru black..watching netflix in those non oled 4k tv is still quite amazing to my eye..

Is it something to do with tv settings? Or the couch setup or my eyes 😢

Nothing to do with settings but probably something to do with ur eyes I would say.

Normal lcd and oled the difference is day and night even normal free air broadcast content can tell the difference.

Just use YouTube to play any oled testing 4k or 8k video can tell the difference also.
