Greetings everyone,

I'm currently looking for a new TV for my family to replace our 13-year-old Panasonic.

TBH I am quite tempted with the TCL C6K since it is miniLED and really affordable, but kind of hard to convince my family since they don't want China brand for some reason.

Also, I am looking for something that lasts for at least 5-7 years, preferably more, so OLED is not an option even though I would love to have one.

So, here are the models, all are 55-inches:

1. TCL C6K: RM2.3k-2.5k, miniLED, looks great to my eyes given the price
2. Sony X85L: RM3.5k, VA panel, also looks good considering the panel
3. Sony X90L: RM4.5k, similar as X85L but with better processor
4. Wait for more models, probably LG QNED86A or Sony Bravia 5, both miniLED as well

Which one would be the best pick of the above?

All opinions are welcome. Thanks!

Bravia 5 will be the best among the tvs you listed. However, expect the price will be similar to the launch price of x90l two years ago, because sony will position Bravia5 to replace x90l.

I cant comment on sony tv's longevity because some owners shared in the sony thread, the x90 series die after the warranty ended.

LG QNED? LG only makes good OLED tvs.. their led tvs cannot compete with the big boys.

i am afraid of sony tv's longevity but seriously for TV, sony is my only choice which i cannot accept other brands, i may still go with sony anytime.

bravia 5 should be a decent choice, i saw it in person and comparing to bravia 9 which i saw in the sony centre, i would say that it is not too far off, both due to the limitation of mini-LED and not OLED, none of them can achieve true black and still have blooming.

personally i will only buy OLED though becos the picture quality is day and night difference comparing to the mini-LED. it is something that one can immediate tell the difference when they see a OLED and mini-led TV side by side.

OLED is the way to go. but honestly though, on a moderately-lit room, mini-LED is quite close to OLED (at least in term of black). The biggest advantage if OLED is the wide viewing angle while retaining the picture quality. My kids have grown up so my next living room upgrade will be OLED.. in 5 years time, i'm sure 65" OLED price will be more reasonable. for the time being, let the kids enjoy (and abuse) the mini-LED tv while I enjoy the OLED in the bedroom haha.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.

Currently looking for Sony Bravia 5, LG QNED86 (2025) or C5, and TCL C6K.

Budget: 4.5k and below
Use case: Sports, movies, Malay drama (ask my family lol) and news, no gaming (cannot plug in PS5 because of GTA)

Current prices:

1. Bravia 5 around 5.5k, which is a lot for mini LED
2. C6K can still get around 2.5-2.7k
3. QNED86 (2025) also mini LED, around 3.6-3.7k
4. C5 sits in just nicely at 4.5-4.6k, 48 inch though while the rest are all 55 inch

Should we just shoot up for C5 since it looks like the best deal compared to the rest or save up and just get C6K?

Thanks a lot

Another option, i was browsing LG's website and found out there is QNED92, supposedly the top of the line miniLED from them. It was in stock a few days ago.

LG is having a promotion, 65" QNED92 for rm6999 plus TnG rebate of RM2800. That massive deal man. Based on my past experience of redeeming TnG from LG, took me 60days to get the rebate credited to my eWallet. This TV is now out of stock, but do check often.

In other region, this model is called QNED93 and from the ealy reviews, it seems promising.

LG worth it? Their miniled used to be really lousy compared to their competitors.

yes the mid range cannot compete with other brands, but the new qned92 (93 in other regions) may be good, based on early reports. wait for full reviews from reputable sites than we see if this model is up to mark.

RTINGS Sony BRAVIA 5 Review

Looks like the performance is average for today's standard.
