Lemme share you my thoughts on watch collecting since you seem to love watches as I do, hope you don't get stuck in rabbit hole haha.

Rolex - Get from grey market if you don't intend to buy and hold many shitter pieces from AD, designs are similar, functions are similar, nothing interesting about it after some time. I don't buy Rolex because everyone and their grandma has one.

AP - Believe me when I say it gets boring real quick as you keep entertaining your SA and by buying their same octagonal case shape pieces again and again. Not many shitter pieces, not many nice pieces too.

Patek - Best for for long term collector if you've deep pocket, they've nice watches in various shapes, sizes and functions and Patek will reward you with pieces that keeps value really well if you keep collecting.

VC/JLC - Worth collecting if you like the their watches but resale value is non existent besides Overseas.

Other high end watches - mostly no resale value, I don't buy as I find it to be financially irresponsible even if you can afford it unless you know...if you're balling out of control.

Other mid and low end watches - mostly no resale value and in some occasions it's not even worth it to service or repair the watch.

Appreciate you sharing your take! I totally get the jaded view toward Rolex and AP after a while, especially with the AD games.
Anyway, I think every collector’s journey has its own flavor — some like the flex, some chase the horology, others the history or niche appeal.

Patek plays very high level gate keeping, getting in takes scarole and patience, unless you go grey. VC and JLC are loved by enthusiasts not investors. But I’m not allergic to fun or flex either, even if resale isn’t top-tier. Sometimes it’s not about ROI — it’s about wrist presence, storytelling, and single mom magnetism 😉. Wearing a Patek can give the vibe of a dinner bell for gold diggers! lol.gif
That said, I’m treading carefully so I don’t end up with a drawer full of shiny regrets. Always down to hear from seasoned collectors. It keeps the journey real.

Ts, I am also looking whether to pull trigger or not. Could use some watch sifu expertise here.

Currently rocking a vintage gold Piaget dress watch pairing old money attire at work.

If you're flexing AAA+ from Petaling Street and calling it a chick magnet, you're basically handing out business cards that say 'I fake it till I make it' sweat.gif
Real ones know confidence comes from wearing the real deal, not plastic fantastic.
And if you're attracting chicks with a fake, don't be surprised when everything else about them is fake too.

Let's delve into the Single Mom Magnetism (SMM) Ratings for two standout models from Casio's vintage collection: the Casio AQ-230GA-9DMQYES and the Casio AQ-800E-7A.

🟡 Casio AQ-230GA-9DMQYES

SMM Rating: 5.5/10

Why It Works:
  • Golden Allure: The gold-tone finish exudes a vintage charm that's both nostalgic and eye-catching.
  • Compact Elegance: Its smaller case size offers a subtle yet sophisticated presence on the wrist.
  • Dual Time Functionality: Practical for those juggling multiple time zones or simply appreciating functional design.
Considerations:
  • Digital Display Size: Some users have noted that the digital display is on the smaller side, which might require a closer glance to read .
  • Perception of Flashiness: While many appreciate the gold finish, a few have mentioned it might come off as a bit too flashy for certain tastes.
Single Mom Responses:
  • “Aww, cute! Looks like something my dad wore in the 80s.”
  • “Is it gold… or gold-coloured?”
  • “You’re either quirky or broke—and I kinda like both.”
Reality Check:
  • It gives off retro, ironic vibes. Great for low-stakes coffee dates or artsy brunches, but not a strong magnet if she's expecting a gentleman with means.
  • If paired with good conversation and confidence? Could still open doors.

⚪ Casio AQ-800E-7A

SMM Rating: 6.5/10

Why It Works:
  • Retro-Modern Fusion: Drawing inspiration from the 1980s AQ-450 design, it seamlessly blends analog and digital elements for a unique aesthetic .
  • Versatility: Its design allows it to transition effortlessly from casual outings to more formal settings.
  • Functional Features: Equipped with dual time, stopwatch, and alarm functions, it offers practicality alongside style.
Considerations:
Size: With dimensions of 40.7 × 32.1 × 8.7 mm, it has a slightly larger presence on the wrist, which might be a preference point for some.
Single Mom Responses:
  • “This one’s funky—kinda Stranger Things, but on your wrist.”
  • “You look like you’re into synthwave. I dig it.”
  • “Wait… is that a Casio? Retro! You must be a minimalist.”
Reality Check:
  • Slightly higher appeal because of its balanced silver styling and less “blingy” aesthetic.
  • Could pass as a tasteful nod to vintage tech culture, but again—it’s not screaming “provider” or “luxury man.”
🔚 Final Verdict:
These Casios are style statements, not status signals. They say:
“I have taste, and I don’t follow hype blindly.” Not: “I have a Yacht-Master in the glove box.”
If your Single Mom Strategy leans more toward low-key charm and cerebral confidence, these will serve you fine. But if you're aiming for Scarole-Detecting Radar Disruption, you'll need to bring out the big lugs and precious metals.
Both models have their unique allure, and your choice would depend on the kind of impression you're aiming to make.

Yes we’ve only 1 wrist after all, better buy a few that you really like and rotate it, we need no more than 10 pieces to fit all possible occasions.

I've you're looking for classic dress watch and you're rather slim, take a loot at Golden Elipse, Calatrava or Reverso in gold. These can be had for less money than a Rolex Pepsi.

Scuba? Perhaps. My SKX007K2 will do the job just fine but I'm looking for a nice tool watch with wrist presence and certain appeal. wink.gif

Excuse my ignorance on watches and scuba, but don't people use divecom today? Or you still prefer the manual feedback in twisting the bezels for stop watching?

I’m still old school, using my Seiko(s). Will rolex be better? Have Tudor Black Bays as well but not for diving for corals.

I was talking about buying a preowned discontinued model 126660 not the latest 136660 from an AD. sweat.gif
Not interested in the 136660 because it doesn't have the Fliplock and I don't like the caseback changes either. shakehead.gif

Deleted my reply jz now. Tot was ref13660. Misread it. I’m still hunting for it now, heard prices from grey sellers going to drop below retail while ADs cnt make you wait longer than 30 days now and risked been reported back to SW.

go for the one you truly like, as long as it’s within your budget. it’s better not to compromise. otherwise, you might feel some regret when you see someone else wearing the watch you really wanted.

personally, i find that models with dive bezels can look a bit too flashy. i prefer steel explorer (not explorer ii, and definitely not the 124273); it has a subtle charm and works well with both casual and more dressed-up outfits.

personally prefer Seamaster though for proper diving.

Saying ‘I prefer the Seamaster’ without telling us which one is like saying ‘I like noodles’
Do you mean instant maggi, maggi goreng mamak, mee goreng mamak, handmade ramen, or Gordon Ramsay’s soba? sweat.gif

Could it be:

  • ‘It wears better on my wrist.’
  • ‘Manual HEV > Automatic.’
  • ‘Costs less, still gets the job done.’
  • ‘No AD waiting list.’
  • ‘Big Bond fan, and yes, I watched No Time to Die. More than 20 times.’

So… mana satu, boss? laugh.gif

The Deepsea just fits right; clean lines, serious presence, and it’s been a long-time grail. The Datejust? Sure, it’s classy, but a bit too shiny and from a distance, it risks getting mistaken for a Seiko or some AliExpress homage.
The Sub? Different game. Rugged, low-key flex. Doesn’t shout it just commands. Pair it with a liter-class naked machine, and it’s not just a vibe it’s a statement.
The kind of combo that makes a single mom glance twice… nod.gif
