I went window shopping for watches and was looking at some of the Rolex Submariner line up. Was wearing the OSD 300m SEL02002B0.
Compared my watch to 126660, 126600, 124060, 126610LN and 116610LN. The only watch that matches in size is the Deepsea. It is slightly thicker than the OSD 300m but with 13 times the depth rating! An engineering masterpiece. nod.gif

While trying out the Deepsea, another saleslady who was passing by remarked "That Deepsea looks good on you. Not many people can pull that off." A nice compliment. grin.gif
She was also intrigued by the OSD 300. "What watch is that?" Explained to her that this is an old out of production Orient Pro Saturation Diver. "They don't make watches like these anymore." I added.

ANTI-POSER TIMEPIECE TIER LIST (SMM STRAIGHT-UP RANKING)
Zero flex appeal, all character:

S+ Tier – “Carved from Purpose”
  • Rolex Deepsea 116660LN – Built like a submarine. Not for the faint-wristed. SMM: 9.3
  • Panerai PAM00022 – OG Destro, manual-wind, early Panerai grit. SMM: 8.4
  • Sinn U1 SDR – Tactical German precision, hardcore utility. SMM: 8.2
S Tier – “Mission-Ready Metal”
  • Panerai PAM00569 – 47mm lefty titanium submersible. Limited-run rebel. SMM: 8.0
  • Seiko Prospex LX SNR029 – Spring Drive torque with serious dive cred. SMM: 7.9
  • Omega Seamaster Ploprof 1200M – Outlandish but earned. Serious tool energy. SMM: 7.8
A Tier – “Worn, Not Flaunted”
  • Panerai PAM00797 – Clean, 8-day handwind workhorse. SMM: 7.5
  • Sinn 103 Ti Ar UTC – Functional, modest, all about the job. SMM: 7.4
  • Orient Saturation Diver SEL02002B0 – Japan’s deep-diving sleeper hit. SMM: 7.3
B Tier – “Almost There”
  • Tudor Pelagos FXD – Tactical, solid, just slightly mainstream. SMM: 7.1
  • Citizen Promaster 1000M – Beastly tool, but not a wrist hugger. SMM: 7.0
C Tier – “Tool-ish, But Trying Too Hard”
  • Rolex Submariner 116610LN / 126610LN – Too many wrists. Lost its edge. SMM: 5.8
  • TAG Heuer Aquaracer – Looks like it wants to help, but gets in the way. SMM: 5.4
What does /k think? Pull the trigger or not to upgrade my SMM appeal? hmm.gif

Single moms aren't WIS. Chances of meeting one is slim to none.
Besides, it might give out the wrong vibe:
“This man is either a romantic or a walking, talking bank account.”
It might scream “ATM” to the wrong kind of single mom. lol.gif

Scuba? Perhaps. My SKX007K2 will do the job just fine but I'm looking for a nice tool watch with wrist presence and certain appeal. wink.gif

Seiko LX? Nah. You should go for the original MM (001/017), or the MM Tuna.

Original MM300 is nice, was in my wishlist but I'd rather end my Seiko collection with a Spring Drive then just another escapement movement.

SMM Rating Showdown: Rolex 126660 vs. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver
(Single Mom Magnetism Edition — Unfiltered and Honest)

🥇 Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller 126660
Vibe: Deep-sea dominance meets rugged explorer. Think James Cameron in a tux.

SMM Rating: 8.7 / 10

💬 Rolex Deepsea 126660 – Single Mom Reactions
(“James Cameron Vibes” Edition)
  • 👩‍🦰 Café Sophisticate (mid-30s, yoga after brunch): "That’s a Rolex, right? It’s huge... You must be, like, really confident. Or really compensating." (smirks but intrigued)
  • 👩‍🦱 Corporate Climber (early 40s, knows her brands): "Mmm, Deepsea? Bold choice. That’s not just a Datejust… you know what you’re doing." (grabs your wrist, prolonged look)
  • 👱‍♀️ Instagram Queen (single mom, but won’t admit it yet): "Omg wait let me take a pic with it — matches my nails!" (3 minutes later: “So what do you do exactly?”)
🔥 Summary:
You’re giving off strong, silent, dependable vibes. Single moms feel safe… and maybe a little curious about what’s underneath the dive suit.
Effect: Slight power imbalance in your favor.

Pros:
Instant brand recognition (even by those who don’t care about watches)
Overbuilt. Understood as serious, masculine, no-BS.
Pairs well with V-neck tees and Ducati keys.
Cons:
  • Can be too thick on wrist — may trigger “trying too hard” reaction if not styled right.
  • A few might think it’s “just another Rolex” if they don’t spot the Deepsea details.

🥈 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver
Vibe: Urban luxury with yacht party credentials. It screams private club in Ibiza.

SMM Rating: 9.2 / 10

💬 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver – Single Mom Reactions
(“Gentleman Outlaw” Edition)
  • 👩‍🦰 Café Sophisticate: "Wait… that’s not a Rolex? You’re different. What’s it called again? Audemar what?" (Eyes light up)
  • 👩‍🦱 Corporate Climber: "AP? You're not playing the same game as the others. You probably have a cellar of watches, don’t you?" (Already imagining your closet and real estate portfolio)
  • 👱‍♀️ Instagram Queen: "That looks expensive AF. Is that the watch Jay-Z wears?" (Slides a little closer)
🔥 Summary:
You’re mysterious, successful, and stylish — but don’t need to brag. They feel like they discovered a rare gem.
Effect: Sparks curiosity + status awareness = magnetic pull.

Pros:
  • Flex factor is high among those in the know.
  • Shows taste beyond basic baller level — whispers wealth.
  • Finishing and style are chef’s kiss in person.
Cons:
  • Less mainstream recognition — might fly under the radar with casuals.
  • Maintenance can be expensive. AP service bills = spa weekend for two.
🧠 Verdict:
  • For mass appeal and rugged prestige: Go 126660.
  • For boutique cachet and refined flex appeal: Offshore Diver wins.
  • If your target audience is classy single moms who brunch at The Majestic and know their Dom from Moët, the AP has the edge.
  • If you want something more imposing, reliable, and still drool-worthy, the 126660 hits hard — like a silent protector with sea legs and a black Amex.
Last time I was in The Majestic, that place was known as Balai Seni Lukis Negara.
With my luck, Audemars Piguet ROO Diver is probably going to be like lobster thermidor attracting cats in the backalley. shocking.gif

Appreciate you sharing your take! I totally get the jaded view toward Rolex and AP after a while, especially with the AD games.
Anyway, I think every collector’s journey has its own flavor — some like the flex, some chase the horology, others the history or niche appeal.

Patek plays very high level gate keeping, getting in takes scarole and patience, unless you go grey. VC and JLC are loved by enthusiasts not investors. But I’m not allergic to fun or flex either, even if resale isn’t top-tier. Sometimes it’s not about ROI — it’s about wrist presence, storytelling, and single mom magnetism 😉. Wearing a Patek can give the vibe of a dinner bell for gold diggers! lol.gif
That said, I’m treading carefully so I don’t end up with a drawer full of shiny regrets. Always down to hear from seasoned collectors. It keeps the journey real.

If you're flexing AAA+ from Petaling Street and calling it a chick magnet, you're basically handing out business cards that say 'I fake it till I make it' sweat.gif
Real ones know confidence comes from wearing the real deal, not plastic fantastic.
And if you're attracting chicks with a fake, don't be surprised when everything else about them is fake too.

Let's delve into the Single Mom Magnetism (SMM) Ratings for two standout models from Casio's vintage collection: the Casio AQ-230GA-9DMQYES and the Casio AQ-800E-7A.

🟡 Casio AQ-230GA-9DMQYES

SMM Rating: 5.5/10

Why It Works:
  • Golden Allure: The gold-tone finish exudes a vintage charm that's both nostalgic and eye-catching.
  • Compact Elegance: Its smaller case size offers a subtle yet sophisticated presence on the wrist.
  • Dual Time Functionality: Practical for those juggling multiple time zones or simply appreciating functional design.
Considerations:
  • Digital Display Size: Some users have noted that the digital display is on the smaller side, which might require a closer glance to read .
  • Perception of Flashiness: While many appreciate the gold finish, a few have mentioned it might come off as a bit too flashy for certain tastes.
Single Mom Responses:
  • “Aww, cute! Looks like something my dad wore in the 80s.”
  • “Is it gold… or gold-coloured?”
  • “You’re either quirky or broke—and I kinda like both.”
Reality Check:
  • It gives off retro, ironic vibes. Great for low-stakes coffee dates or artsy brunches, but not a strong magnet if she's expecting a gentleman with means.
  • If paired with good conversation and confidence? Could still open doors.

⚪ Casio AQ-800E-7A

SMM Rating: 6.5/10

Why It Works:
  • Retro-Modern Fusion: Drawing inspiration from the 1980s AQ-450 design, it seamlessly blends analog and digital elements for a unique aesthetic .
  • Versatility: Its design allows it to transition effortlessly from casual outings to more formal settings.
  • Functional Features: Equipped with dual time, stopwatch, and alarm functions, it offers practicality alongside style.
Considerations:
Size: With dimensions of 40.7 × 32.1 × 8.7 mm, it has a slightly larger presence on the wrist, which might be a preference point for some.
Single Mom Responses:
  • “This one’s funky—kinda Stranger Things, but on your wrist.”
  • “You look like you’re into synthwave. I dig it.”
  • “Wait… is that a Casio? Retro! You must be a minimalist.”
Reality Check:
  • Slightly higher appeal because of its balanced silver styling and less “blingy” aesthetic.
  • Could pass as a tasteful nod to vintage tech culture, but again—it’s not screaming “provider” or “luxury man.”
🔚 Final Verdict:
These Casios are style statements, not status signals. They say:
“I have taste, and I don’t follow hype blindly.” Not: “I have a Yacht-Master in the glove box.”
If your Single Mom Strategy leans more toward low-key charm and cerebral confidence, these will serve you fine. But if you're aiming for Scarole-Detecting Radar Disruption, you'll need to bring out the big lugs and precious metals.
Both models have their unique allure, and your choice would depend on the kind of impression you're aiming to make.

Saying ‘I prefer the Seamaster’ without telling us which one is like saying ‘I like noodles’
Do you mean instant maggi, maggi goreng mamak, mee goreng mamak, handmade ramen, or Gordon Ramsay’s soba? sweat.gif

Could it be:

  • ‘It wears better on my wrist.’
  • ‘Manual HEV > Automatic.’
  • ‘Costs less, still gets the job done.’
  • ‘No AD waiting list.’
  • ‘Big Bond fan, and yes, I watched No Time to Die. More than 20 times.’

So… mana satu, boss? laugh.gif

QUOTE(ak101ss @ May 5 2025, 01:39 AM)
Just get a datejust la... You guys die die want submariner/oyster perpetual but don't dive more than 10m... KNS...
*
The Deepsea just fits right; clean lines, serious presence, and it’s been a long-time grail. The Datejust? Sure, it’s classy, but a bit too shiny and from a distance, it risks getting mistaken for a Seiko or some AliExpress homage.
The Sub? Different game. Rugged, low-key flex. Doesn’t shout it just commands. Pair it with a liter-class naked machine, and it’s not just a vibe it’s a statement.
The kind of combo that makes a single mom glance twice… nod.gif

Deleted my reply jz now. Tot was ref13660. Misread it. I’m still hunting for it now, heard prices from grey sellers going to drop below retail while ADs cnt make you wait longer than 30 days now and risked been reported back to SW.

That's why I decided to go in and get a Deepsea. Perfect for my wrist and black dial not a popular choice for crypto bros unlike D-Blue. Even a less than a year old PP Rose Gold Annual Calendar is going for less than retail price. Some people here are quietly selling their Rolex Daytona. Still plenty of scarole if bought retail.

Crypto Bros Are No Longer Selling Luxury Watches, and the Market Is Showing It
The luxury watch industry is in a bit of a free fall, and crypto bros may be in part to blame.
In the last quarter, several of the leading watch companies saw their sales plummet. Part of that is because those who spent their savings on timepieces over the past couple of years are now using that money for other expenses like travel. But part is also due to speculators like crypto bros no longer banking on luxury watches as a safe investment, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Earlier during the pandemic, luxury watches were considered an alternative asset for those looking to make a little extra cash. Charles Tian, the founder of WatchCharts, told the WSJ that crypto bros diversified their portfolios by buying up and then selling high-end timepieces. At the height of demand, for example, a $14,550 Rolex Daytona could be resold for $47,000, according to WatchCharts data shared with the newspaper. While the same watch still sells for more on the secondary market than a brand-new model would cost, the resale premium is now just 43 percent.

Crypto bros and the like are also turning away from the resale market because they don’t want to get stuck with watches they don’t want, The Wall Street Journal noted. A Rolex that would have sold on a secondhand site in less than three weeks in 2021 is now sitting unsold for more than three months. Patek Philippes, meanwhile, can take some six months to change hands. Plus, crypto bros generally prefer sport watches, but the market is moving more toward small dress watches, making their investments less desirable.

Pre-Owned Rolex Prices Just Keep Falling—Here Are the Best Models To Buy Right Now
Pre-Owned Rolex Prices Just Keep Falling—Here Are the Best Models To Buy Right Now

With Watches and Wonders as well as the spring auction season behind us, the watch market is calm and steady. And, generally speaking, 2024 is turning out to be a relatively stable year for watches. Prices are down, and supply is up—and that spells “buyer’s market.” This is especially true of pre-owned Rolex.

Rolex Waitlists in 2025: What’s Really Going On??
For years, the idea of walking into an authorized dealer and buying a Rolex sports model has felt like a fantasy. But according to a recent study by WatchCharts and Morgan Stanley, Rolex wait times are getting noticeably shorter. The study—based on customer reports from Reddit over the past five years—shows that models like the Submariner, GMT-Master II, and Explorer are becoming easier to get. While this data is anecdotal and not a perfect science, it reflects a larger shift in the Rolex market: the frenzy is cooling, and availability is improving.

Absolutely!

As the Nature Boy Ric Flair would say:
I'm gonna be a kiss stealin’, torque dealin’, café cruisin’, Deepsea wearin’, full-throttle son of a gun and I’ve still got time to make hearts race and engines roar!

Rolex Deepsea 116660 – The Original Heavyweight
user posted image

After weighing my options (literally and figuratively), I went with the Rolex Deepsea 116660 black dial over its successor, the 126660. Both command serious wrist presence at 44mm wide and 17.7mm thick, but there’s something unapologetically purposeful about the original — a tool watch in the truest sense, built with engineering first and aesthetics second.

116660 vs 126660 – Subtle, but Meaningful
While the visual differences may seem minor at a glance:
  • The 126660 offers slightly reshaped lugs and houses the newer Cal. 3235 with improved power reserve and efficiency.
  • The 116660 retains the original, no-nonsense proportions and runs the proven Cal. 3135. A workhorse with decades of service behind it since 1988.
If you’re into the finer visual distinctions across references, this video breaks it down nicely:
Bracelet Fit & Wearability
Out of the box, the 98210 bracelet fit perfectly; No links removed, just a quick adjustment via Glidelock and it wore exactly as Rolex intended.
Details on the bracelet:

Thanks to the titanium caseback, it actually wears a bit lighter than expected — even lighter than the OSD 300 in my experience. That said, the Deepsea still has a reassuring heft that constantly reminds you: this is a serious tool watch. No weird “warm metal” sensation like some get from featherweight titanium timepieces (I’m looking at you, Pelagos). Just solid, confident wrist presence.

Value & Character
With prices now continuing to diverge between the 116660 and later references, I found this piece to offer exceptional value — and left me with a little more budget room to chase other SMM equipment upgrades:
  • a grail-level fountain pen,
  • another timepiece,
  • or that new set of Dainese riding gear.
Final Thoughts
For those with an 8”+ wrist and a habit of rolling up your sleeves, the Deepsea 116660 still makes a bold, unmistakable statement. It’s a serious diver built with intent, and it continues to turn heads years after its debut.

Sometimes evolution is refinement. Other times, the original just got it right. nod.gif
