nowadays top end AD systems and long range stand off weapons getting cheaper and cheaper for countries to acquire. how would the carrier approach the shores of another opponent when the opponent has access to missiles capable to fire from 800-2000km away? not to mention to stay away from the missiles range their planes cannot operate (usual carrier plane range 1000~km fully loaded). it is made almost redundant, given how nobody in right mind would risk the carrier being hit by sailing closer

Air carrier still useful as floating navy bases to jump start or connect the attacking point against those countries that don't have long range missile.
