Lets say in scenario if there is resigning staff refuse to finish work.

make excuses when in actual sense, can finish work in time.

But refuse to do the work.

just 1 week to go.

What can HR do to take action?

Ask the manager to create a task handover list and assign to other staffs.

Actually, the task handover list should be created once he/she tenders. Not 1 week before the staff last day.

Nothing. Left 1 week only, can do what?

Don't even think of petty things like withhold salary or whatever, he call jtk complain lagi more problems.

At most maybe you can hint the next employer he a bit difficult.

HR cannot do anything at all as anything they can do would be pointless and a waste if time.

You can't do much, the best course of action is just to inform his next company.

Most companies place their outgoing employees on garden leave for this very reason. And there's nothing you can do about it anyway

lels they took my advice to touch fish after tendering their resignation lol
just goes to show its a low lvl and terrible company to work in
if it was a good company and a career move they wouldve been eager to finish it so they can put it on their resume to bump their pay up but if its a terrible company, too bad, cant really do anything unless u want to be petty as well
also, kesian the next hire, wont have a proper handover list and will kena scold for not knowing what they dont know

Ts, just like there are good natured & asshole people. In the workforce, there are professional & those who don't give a damn.

Doesn't matter if the company treats the employee well or not. There will be some assholes who.will take advantage.

Do not threaten or force the fellow to finish his work. Just leave it,if the fellow was professional. He/she would have have done their best to.make sure everything is complete.

You force them to finish it, I guarantee u will regret it as at best they just cincai finish, at worst they sabotage.. Either way, u are better off getting.someone more responsible to finish the tasks.

If it is just one week to go and stuck in this situation, the fault is with the line manager.

should have a handover list, then list must be completed and signed, then only the salary will be paid at the last day of the month.

Man, that’s rough. Had a coworker pull this once, gave notice and just checked out mentally with days left. HR can’t force them to work, but they can dock pay for hours not worked or withhold final bonuses if that’s in the contract. A quick sit-down with a clear “finish this or it hits your paycheck” usually lights a fire. Worst case, document everything and shift tasks to someone else to keep things moving. Sucks, but it happens.
