QUOTE(zero12 @ Apr 23 2025, 03:46 PM)
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding second router.

I've moved to a new home and relocated my unifi. The house is 2 storey and the wifi coverage upstairs is bad. My phone is disconnected from wifi (2.4hz) most of the time.

My budget is cheapest as possible since i only need the internet for social media browsing. I am thinking to buy a secondhand router (Fiberhome AX1800, similar like current router) for upstairs since the connection point is provided by the developer.

Is this method valid? since i saw some postings on Carousell saying that the fiberhome cannot be as second router.
*
if you want to buy router as cheap as possible, better go for mikrotik

there sales going on currently

user posted image

why mikrotik you maybe asking, because of software update

this is my old rb2011

user posted image

notice that factory firmware 3.10, which is from 2008, still receive update until now.

but be aware, this model is cheap, because it dont have 5Ghz wifi, only 2.4Ghz, stil it using AX (wifi 6)

also, the spec is better if you compare with any router from TM

user posted image

one more thing, it also can run container dierctly from the router, with that, you can install adblocker like pi hole or adguard home directly to the router'

but it good start if you want to learn how to use mikrotik router thumbup.gif

QUOTE(neekun @ May 10 2025, 12:25 PM)
Technician came and configure his Telekom combo router and modem , at first few round still not able to get the  full upload speed.  Then he was asked to hard reset his combo device and reconfig, and test again also not getting full upload speed. Only a round 280mbps is the max can get.  Then he called again to Telekom and they did a hard reset on Telekom end and eventually the upload speed is 420mbps which is ok. But when plug back into my Asus gt-ax11000 the upload speed was only 200mbps.

Based on technician, if using Telekom supplied combo device, Telekom can "tag" the device at their end so ensure speed is ok. I don’t understand what this means. In directly, are we not supposed to use our own router in order to get the full upload speed? Btw, my down load speed is 940mbps and it is fine.
*
same here, using dlink black alone can get full speed, only getting half when using dlink black+hap ax3,

SWU 1Gbps plan here icon_rolleyes.gif

It was working all the while with my 1gbps plan. So how do you resolve the issue? I am not gonna use the crappy combo device.
*
same here,

already called tm to fix it, but they say using dlink black as bridge mode is outside they jobscope, since using own router doh.gif

i tell them using old onu is ok through (test it infront of them) since using old onu is same as using brigde mode on new dlink

after that they say they gonna ask they supervisor first and come back to me later, that is 1 week ago, and support ticket already closed, gonna open new support ticket next week icon_rolleyes.gif

So your case could be due to the black dlink in bridge mode? Mine also using same black dlink as bridge.  I called 100 again and they said will escalate to technical team to call me in 24 hours time. Do keep me posted what’s your result when you open the case again.  Btw, you can pm me where can share case number.  Use it to tell tm that’s this issue is common and should fix it.
*
yup2, directly connecting dlink black to pc using same cable can get full speed

using dlink black as bridge and using mikrotik for dial pppoe get less speed

also, already sent dm

What's your black dlink firmware version? Tried upgrading to v2.0.6?
Speed drop on bridge mode is a known firmware bug.
*

The speed drop is fixed in v2.0.3 itself so it must be other problem already.
Since your old ONU works, why not just use it? The extra 100Mbps download speed is really that significant for you?
*
yup2, that what im doing now,

like what you say, there must be other problem regarding dlink bridge mode, if we not report it, i dont think TM gonna fix it

it not just about that extra 100Mbps, since all of my machine only have 1Gbps port, it just to make TM aware of the issue so they can fix it

what if this old onu suddenly die, terpaksa juga use that dlink combo lol

Disable max payload in pppoe config if using cisco. I mean untagged the vlan 500 or disable MRRU if enabled by default. I'm not familiar with mikrotik however.
*
gonna try this later, now cannot cause many is using internet right now since it weekend

@neekun
I think ur upload speed problem maybe similar with my attached photo where it should be 800/200 not 800/100. The 800/100 result was just same if using whatever brand/mode/onr/ont.. 😄 . From

But your upload speed is ok. Only download speed slow. Mine is download speed 950mbps but upload is only 150mbps.

Btw I noticed the mtu is 1480. Mine is 1492. Any idea what should be the correct values. Thanks.
*
yup2, that is my current issue, using old onu everything ok, use dlink black the result as you see sweat.gif

mikrotik default to 1480 even you set it at 1492, highest i can set is 1488

How about MikroTik RB4011 Ethernet 10-Port ?
*
if you on tight budget, can check hap ax lite, hap ax2 or hap ax3

hap ax lite is the cheapest one but dont have 5Ghz wifi

if you want 2.5G port for future proof and good wifi coverage. go for hap ax3

if you want to use sfp port go for L009

but if budget not your limitation then go for rb5009

If bridged dlink use with other router than mikrotik, can get lan 940Mbps? Me either zte onu or bridge mode dlink white or fiberhome HG6145F3, I can get my 800Mbps with SR120-A.
*
same result with Xiaomi Mi Router AX1800 (using openwrt), fiberhome SR1041F, SR120-A and same dllink black model ( i have 2 )

1 from free plan upgrade and 1 from converting plan to swu

the only time i get get full speed is when pair with old zte onu

but using dlink black itself connecting to pc can get full speed

forget 1 item.

old zte onu + dlink can get 940Mbps?
*
yup2

TL:DR

any router that pair with dlink black bridge mode get low download speed

using dlink black itself as router get full speed

Told Telekom also about it. But that they are not responding on that. The case keeps escalate to technician to go on site instead of checking at their back end.
*
try asking them to escalated the ticket to higher level,

i think that is most suitable next step since onsite cannot resolve the issue

also, mention the possible T-CONT issue as hsbb say
