hi guys..
at 1st i wanted to get a multi effects pedal...because some said that it'll be better to get a multi effects as a 1st pedal, so i'll know what effects i need..
but i went to a gig last 2 days..and i saw few of the guitarist with just few stompboxes manage to get great sound from it..(it actually sound better than multi effects rite?)

i was looking at the ax3000g and the zoom g7..
and after that gig..i decided to get stompboxes instead..
but i'm worried it will be difficult to operate single stompboxes...as i thought that multieffects will be easier..because there's memory to save the settings..and also patches..and multis can change lotsa effects with just a stomp,,while stompboxes, i need to bend down and turn the knob to change the sound..

due to financial prob..i dont plan to change my amp as during performance, mostly i get different amps provided by the organisers..
currently using the MG30dfx ( i know it have a bad reputation)..
can i get good sounds from it? must i use the clean channel? or od channel when operating the stompboxes?

last question, i play from pop-punk>alternative>classic rock>metalcore>emo, and my budget its around RM800..what is the 1st few pedals that i need to suit my style of playing?
if you're me would you go for the multi of stomp-ies? lol
what about stompbox for distortion and multi effects for delay, reverb etc?

thanks a bunch!

i'd suggest a metalzone/moen mo-vm for killer distortion, other pedals are up to you really, see what kind of sound you wanna get. common pedals used are usually distortion, chorus, flanger.. i don't think many people use reverb pedals cuz they're pretty expensive so they use it from their amps/multi fx.
for me the most important is distortion, don't need anything else tongue.gif
the metalzone/violent metal would be great for what you play cuz they are very versatile and can get you many tones thumbup.gif
if you want, you could even get an equalizer pedal or an acoustic simulator biggrin.gif

Honestly, it's individual preference..

If you think the stompboxes give you good sound then go for it lah.. If you malas wanna buy so many stompboxes, get multifx ..

They say analogue pedals give better warmer tone etc .. But I never regretted using my multifx pedal, loving it.. Had bad experiences with stompboxes before. Hahaa.. That's for me.

Cause in the end, which ever one u choose.. you'll end up getting used to it. And u'll learn to love what you get used to.

If not.... ..... ....

...

You'll switch to the other alternative la, what else??!

You wanna kena from Blacktrix oso arr Gapnap. tongue.gif

TS, get whichever suits you better. biggrin.gif If you're on a tight budget, go for the multi-fx route. Safer and you're guaranteed to get a good tone out of the box (Unless you buy one of those old, small Zoom ones tongue.gif )

Hmmmmm..... Honestly, in his situation, a Multi-FX pedal with Amp modelling would be a better choice, mainly due to the not as expected Marshall distortion from the MG30.

The Tonelab LE would be a good choice, as it has a decent amount of effects, but great amp modelling. If you're looking for something with more effects to play with but with decent amp modelling, then maybe you can try out the Line6 Floor POD (or the POD XT Live if you have the budget).

Yes, effects can help, but if you have a crappy amp to start with, it needs alot of pedals to coax out a good tone....... easiest solution is to buy something with an amp modeller.

Even if you're using the house's amps, you'll never know what quality you're going to get, which is why alot of them use multi-fx units anyway (unless you're a MAJOR headliner where they will provide you with top of the line Marshalls or Mesa)..... Heck, even the guitarist from Deja Voodoo Spells uses a POD during the clinics I've seen him in. tongue.gif

That's just my 2 cents btw..... the decision is entirely up to you. Yes, individual pedals COULD sound better, but you'll be shelling out quite a bit if you're an FX junkie. Even that, it all depends on the amp. For me? I use a combination of both. Use my Tonelab LE mostly for the amp modelling and chorus effects, while depending on my MXR Overdrive and Wah + my Digitech Whammy as my effects.

And don't worry Gapnap. I see nothing wrong with your posts AT THE MOMENT tongue.gif

Just think if you need that many effect combinations for the type of music(s) you play. I believe that most guitarist would not need more than one or two distortion pedals (overdrive included), a delay, chorus, and maybe a wah. At least that works for me.

Wait wait..... I AM using the SE......

I meant for him to get the LE

And the Wylde Wah can be bought at Bentley's or Do Re Mi music.

But the Wylde Wah is an acquired taste..... It's a very good Metal wah, but don't expect Funk sounds coming for that. If you have a little more cash, go for the Dimebag's Crybaby from hell as it's much more versatile. I bought my Wylde Wah because...... well...... duh. Zakk fan here tongue.gif

The SE is expensive, naturally one would recommend the LE which is more practical in this case.

Though, the Tonelab series isn't really flexible in terms programming your own sound. For example, you can't use the wah with an OD pedal or any 2 pedals listed on the pedals section at a time. Kinda limits what you could get from the unit. I would recommend Line 6's XTL or GT series instead. If you're more concerned about the amp modeling and less on effects, I guess you could put the Tonelab into your list too. smile.gif

I actually MEANT to say live edition........ I just mis-typed tongue.gif

LOL You are not even sure what gear you are using? shakehead.gif

You're using the SE lar... Stage Edition. The SE came out before the LE (Light Edition?) and is the one in blue & comes with twin pedals.

I suck at my gear, don't I?
Well, end of the year..... it's simpler.

Guitar -> Wah -> Overdrive -> Spider Valve (FX Loop the Whammy).

I might be tempted to get a A/B/Y pedal and hook up my Tonelab SE, GCB-95 Wah and my Laney to get 2 sounds........

Mmmmmmmmmmmm....... BRUTAL

i partially agree with blacktrix...
Unless you know you're gonna have good amps to do justice to your little stompboxes, get a multiFX and use the amp modelings inside.

Personally, i think stompboxes give a better overall sound quality compared to multiFX, but i still bought a multiFX first, mainly becasue of the amps issue.

pinjam thread tongue.gif

im considering to get my FIRST multifx and music store from ipoh quote me rm595 for g2.1u WITHOUT adaptor. hows the deal?
i think its quite normal for shops here to jack up the price here. i seldom travel to KL so it might be quite a hassle if i were to take a trip down there just to get it from the music shop. BUT if its a whole lot cheaper than of course its worth it biggrin.gif

another question, do all multiFXs come with amp modelings? amp modeling basically means simulating tones from big names amps like Marshall right? i asked the dude working there and he said g2.1u does not have amp modeling. which makes me very confused. need someone to enlighten me.

last question, how does g2.1u stand compared to a floor pod? which has more value for money?

thanks a bunch guys !

Yes, there's amp modeling and it does mean simulating tones from bigger amps. biggrin.gif

If possible, give the Floor Pod and the Digitech RP series a try. biggrin.gif The Digitech has gotten some good reviews, not sure if it's available at your place though, but Bentley carries Digitech. smile.gif

Again, I don't like Zoom because
a) They don't last long....... both my Zooms suffers from broken pedal syndrom.
and
b) They sound like microchips.

Like Led_Zep, I too would recommend the Floor Pod or the Digitech RP.... but they ARE more expensive then the Zoom.
If you're on a tighter budget, try out the Korg Ax1500..... it lasts longer and sounds better then Zoom IMO.

for beginner multi fx good for experimenting with, but good wan also mahal, cheap wan ppl say sounds bad. haha.
I think multi-fx good for live gigs, easy to set pads n save, gig time just pijak pijak change on the fly.

stomp box definately better than multi-fx, ask any sound engineer, especially those dat do recording in studios. I have never come across one who preffers multi over stomps. But for live gig, if u need diff diff fx then hard to adjust one by one especially when diff songs are diff tempo for delay pedal u need adjust the RATE. Dats y pro artists have many delay pedals, each set for one song. But they r rich or sponsored.

So wut i said doesnt solve any problem. hahaha. CHeers!!!
