Things work both ways.
You expect company to pay you higher then only you put more effort.
Have you ever give a thought that bosses will only pay higher if they see you have given extra effort? If you have to nego and yet still doesn't get what you want, maybe the boss is not seeing the extra effort that you think you are giving. Pay must be substantiated with extra value.
