Time travel through the Nestlé story

Come on a journey through Nestlé's company history. We'll begin in 1866 and finish in the present day.

Along the way, we'll see why Henri Nestlé created infant cereal, how the company weathered downturns and two world wars.

We'll follow the acquisitions and the move into chocolate, pharmaceuticals and petcare.

The world's largest food and beverage company

How Henri Nestlé started the Nestlé we know today
Led by a sense of scientific innovation, Henri Nestlé kickstarted a small food business in 1867.

150 years later that business is the world’s largest food and beverage company. And Henri’s legacy continues to shape the business today.

Compared to Nestlé Malaysia, Nestlé Indonesia has more products. They also have animal food products.

Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad is not owned by hedge funds. The company's largest shareholder is Nestlé S.A., with ownership of 72.61%.

With such a huge stake in the ownership, we infer that they have significant control of the future of the company.

Employees Provident Fund of Malaysia is the second largest shareholder owning 6.64 % of common stock.

On December 7, 2021, Nestlé agreed to sell 22.26 million L'Oréal shares to L'Oréal. L'Oréal will cancel the repurchased shares.

Following the transaction, Nestlé will own 20.1% of L'Oréal and remains fully supportive of the company's value creation strategy.

Nestlé will retain its two positions on the L'Oréal Board of Directors.

Nestlé today launched its expanded Chembong factory in Malaysia, now the largest Milo factory in the world. A 30% capacity increase will meet expanding domestic demand and exports to over 20 countries for Milo, the world’s leading chocolate malt beverage.

The Chembong factory started operations in 1993 and it currently employs the largest workforce among the six Nestlé factories in Malaysia. Varieties produced in the factory include regular Milo and Milo 3-in-1.

I didn't boycott them, but I just happen to not buying those brands above in recent years.

Consume before or buy before for sure yes, but just recent years didn't consume these.

Example Instant noodle I bough Nissin recently

Chocolate Malt I bought Ovaltine recent years

Consumers can’t weed nestle product out;

they’ll just buy the next popular brand.

Ingredients should not be control or all supplied by nestle...

Didn't buy any of their product except Nespray.

In the old days, the US had antitrust laws to prevent companies from being too huge and to stop any monopoly.

Now, everything is consolidated into a few hands only, scary.

Better support our own local brand and SEA countries brand if possible.

I always told people that M&As never benefitted the customer or employees, only shareholders.

It's now to the point they have to create the illusion of choice for consumers

so what is your take?

For myself, I feel that, there is still growth. While it is true, now a days, Korean Noodles, even Chinese noodles is coming up. There is still significant amount of growth in eg, Milk powder and other consumable products. I would not buy it if it had been at rm100 level, rm90 level or rm80 level... at rm70 ... starts to look decent. *** all is feeling type. I am not good at numbers.

Only Milo I feel like can't really find an alternative yet.

Lol, Milo is full of sugar and synthetic sugar.

Just buy 100% cocoa or cacao.

100% cocoa like Van houten 350 gram is only RM20 or lesser if buy it during promotion in shopee.

Meanwhile, cacao, the price is doubled, better for health but taste more bitter and hard to dissolve in hot water.

Then pick your milk, use fresh milk or for me Nespray full cream, got zero sugar and synthetic sugar.

Then lastly add brown sugar if not enough sweet, got molasses good for digestion.

Market Insights: Nestlé’s Stock Plunge – Opportunity or Risk?

Thu, Mar 20, 2025

Nestlé (NESTLE) is often regarded as the "King of Stocks" in Malaysia, with its stock price historically staying above RM100.

However, recently, Nestlé's stock price has fallen below RM100 and even below RM70. Compared to its peak of RM150, the price has dropped by about 50%.

Faced with this situation, investors are asking: Is this a good time to invest in Nestlé, or is there a potential risk? This article analyzes brand value, profitability, dividend yield, and valuation.

Brand & Profitability

For general investors, a good company usually has the following three characteristics:

Strong brand recognition – Nestlé owns well-known brands such as Milo, Nescafe, Maggi, and KitKat.

Stable profitability – Nestlé maintains annual profits consistently.
Regular dividend payments – Nestlé regularly distributes dividends to shareholders.

However, a deeper analysis reveals that although Nestlé's earnings are stable, they lack growth. Financial data shows that annual profits have remained around RM650 million for over a decade, barely exceeding RM700 million.

More importantly, the 2024 financial report shows a significant decline in revenue and profit margin.

****** Net profit fell from RM600 million to RM416 million, with a profit margin dropping to 6.7%. *******

This is a key factor behind the stock price dropping below RM100.

Dividend Yield Misconception
Nestlé has a strong dividend history, distributing ******* over RM2 per share annually. ************

The company ***** pays dividends 3 times a year, in February, July, and October.

*********

Year Dividend Breakdown Total Dividend (RM)
2025 (0.7400) 0.7400
2024 (0.3500 + 0.7000 + 1.2800) 2.3300
2023 (0.7000 + 0.7000 + 1.2200) 2.6200
2022 (0.7000 + 0.7000 + 1.0200) 2.4200
2021 (0.7000 + 0.7000 + 0.9200) 2.3200
2020 (0.7000 + 0.7000 + 1.4000) 2.8000
2019 (0.7000 + 0.7000 + 1.4000) 2.8000
2018 (0.7000 + 0.7000 + 1.3500) 2.7500
2017 (0.7000 + 0.7000 + 1.3000) 2.7000

However, considering that the stock price was above RM100, the dividend yield was actually less than 2%.

By comparison, fixed deposits offer an interest rate of more than 3%, making Nestlé's dividend appeal relatively low.

Is the Price-to-Earnings (P/E) Ratio Reasonable?
A commonly used valuation metric is the Price-to-Earnings (P/E) ratio, calculated as:

P/E Ratio = Current Stock Price / Earnings Per Share (EPS)

P/E 10-20: Reasonable range (5%-10% return)
P/E >20: Overvalued, return below 5%
P/E <10: Undervalued, return above 10%

Over the past five years, Nestlé’s average P/E ratio has been around 50x, meaning investors would take 50 years to recover their investment, with an annual return of just 2%. Even after the stock price dropped from RM150 to RM70, the current P/E ratio remains well above the ideal level of 20x.

For Nestlé’s P/E ratio to reach 20x, the stock price would need to fall further to RM35.

Why Is Nestlé’s Profit Growth Limited?
Nestlé Malaysia is not an independent company but a subsidiary of Nestlé Switzerland, which owns 72.61% of Nestlé Malaysia’s shares.

The parent company operates Nestlé Malaysia as a "cash cow" model, meaning:

Limited growth potential – Nestlé primarily serves the local Malaysian market, with little room for expansion.

Profit repatriation – Earnings are mainly distributed as dividends to the parent company rather than reinvested for growth.

Lack of global expansion – Nestlé Malaysia does not focus on global expansion, with limited exports.

Since the parent company prioritizes stable income over business expansion, Nestlé Malaysia struggles to achieve long-term growth.

Opportunity or Risk?
Nestlé’s stock decline could indicate two scenarios:

Short-term correction – an investment opportunity: If the profit decline is temporary, the stock price may recover, allowing investors to buy at a lower price and benefit from higher dividend yields.

Long-term downtrend – a risk: If the profit decline is a long-term trend, Nestlé’s competitiveness and valuation may continue to fall, leading to further stock price declines.

Therefore, investors should closely analyze the real reasons behind Nestlé’s declining earnings to determine whether this is a temporary fluctuation or a long-term issue.

Conclusion

Nestlé is a well-known Malaysian company with strong brand recognition and stable profits. However, it faces challenges such as stagnant growth, low dividend yields, and high valuation.

The recent sharp stock price decline could be an investment opportunity or the beginning of a long-term downtrend. Investors should carefully assess the causes of Nestlé’s profit decline before making investment decisions.

Nestle Malaysia holds groundbreaking for RM250mil logistics hub in Port Klang

Friday, 21 Mar 2025

12:03 PM

Juan Aranols, CEO of Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd (third from right); and Chan Sway Wah, managing director of Malconrep Depot (third from left), commemorate the groundbreaking ceremony for Nestlé Malaysia’s world-class logistics hub in Port Klang. They are flanked by (from left) Raja Nurmaria Murni Raja Nur Azmi, executive director of group corporate affairs, Malaysia and Singapore;

Xolile White, executive director of technical and production; Luca Fichera, vice-president of supply chain and business services, Nestlé Asia, Oceania, and Africa; and Anurag Dwivedi, executive director of supply chain.

KUALA LUMPUR: Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd has held a groundbreaking ceremony for its RM250mil integrated logistics hub in Port Klang, which forms part of the consumer group's plan to enhance supply chain efficiency and sustainability.

In a statement, Nestle Malaysia said the hub, which is expected to be fully operational by 1Q26, will facilitate the export of products and well as the sourcing of imported raw materials.

Nestle Malaysia is partnering Malconrep Depot (M) Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian-owned logistics company, in the development of the facility.

“The confidence that Nestlé Malaysia has placed in us allows for long-term planning and investment in smart warehousing infrastructure and a greener, more efficient logistics ecosystem,” said Malconrep Depot managing director Chan Sway Wah.

The hub will feature a modern warehouse and a container yard, leveraging economies of scale and digitalisation to optimise operations and better serve Nestlé’s expanding customer base.

It will incorporate cutting-edge technology and sustainable innovations, contributing also to reduce the environmental impact of Nestlé’s logistic operations.

"This exciting step forward for Nestlé Malaysia, in addition to driving future growth, underscores also our commitment to invest in Malaysia and marks the creation of a world-class logistics hub that will revolutionise our operations through advanced technology," said Nestle Malaysia CEO Juan Aranols.

This news is good ????

Or maybe there are another good news to Nestle BHD 4707?

Leveraging economies of scale:

This refers to the strategy whereby companies reduce the cost per unit by producing on a large scale.

As production increases, fixed costs are spread over a larger number of products, thereby lowering the cost per unit.

High-risk business:

This implies that although leveraging economies of scale can theoretically offer cost advantages, in practice it may face numerous risks.

These risks include unstable market demand, financial pressure, management challenges, quality control issues, and more.

If market conditions change, a strategy that relies heavily on mass production could result in even greater losses.

Am I correct?

Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd has a strong brand presence and loyal customer base, making it almost impossible for the stock to crash to RM1.

Here’s why:

1. Brand Trust & Recognition
Nestlé is a globally recognized brand with over 100 years in Malaysia.

Brands like Milo, Maggi, Nescafé, KitKat are household names with deep emotional connections to consumers.

Even if new competitors enter the market, people still prefer trusted brands over unknown ones.

2. Market Dominance & Everyday Consumption
Nestlé products are daily essentials—Milo for breakfast, Maggi for quick meals, and Nescafé for coffee drinkers.

Unlike luxury items, food & beverages have consistent demand, even in economic downturns.

3. Wide Product Range & Adaptability
Nestlé continuously innovates by introducing healthier options (e.g., Milo with less sugar).

They cover various consumer segments—instant noodles (Maggi), dairy (Nestlé yogurt, milk), coffee (Nescafé), snacks (KitKat).

Even if one product declines in sales, other products help balance overall revenue.

4. Strong Distribution Network
Nestlé products are available everywhere—supermarkets, convenience stores, kopitiams, vending machines, and online platforms.

Wide reach ensures sales stability, preventing drastic revenue drops.

5. Defensive Business Model & Financial Stability
Nestlé is a "defensive stock", meaning it performs well even during recessions.

Consistent profits and dividends attract long-term investors.

Unlike companies with high debt risks, Nestlé has a strong financial base.

Conclusion: No RM1 Crash Possible

For Nestlé to drop to RM1, it would need massive bankruptcy, fraud, or total loss of trust—which is highly unrealistic.

Even if competition increases, Nestlé’s strong branding, customer loyalty, and market dominance ensure long-term stability.

Major food companies, including

Kraft Heinz,
Mondelez and
Coca-Cola,

were hit with a new lawsuit in the US on Tuesday accusing them of designing and marketing “ultra-processed” foods to be addictive to children, causing chronic disease.

The lawsuit was filed in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas by Bryce Martinez, a Pennsylvania resident who alleges he developed type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, diagnosed at age 16, as a result of consuming the companies’ products.

His lawyers at the firm Morgan & Morgan, a major US plaintiffs’ firm, described the case as the first of its kind.

The other companies being sued are

Post Holdings,
PepsiCo,
General Mills,
Nestle’s US arm,
WK Kellogg,
Mars,
Kellanova and
Conagra.

“There is currently no agreed upon scientific definition of ultra-processed foods,” Sarah Gallo, senior vice president of product policy for the Consumer Brands Association, an industry group representing food and beverage makers, said in a statement.

“Attempting to classify foods as unhealthy simply because they are processed, or demonizing food by ignoring its full nutrient content, misleads consumers and exacerbates health disparities.”

RFK Jr going on a war path against processed foods, plus there's going to be a big push for revising the food pyramid, which means grains, which is the bulk of the material for making Nestle products, will be demonized.

See how we brainwash the students of malaysia - also know what cartel ur dealing with already.

Openly teachers and principals in malaysia will beg us to bring our milo truck into the premises and educate the kids on the goodness of milo.

U know when ur queuing under hot sun- i hand u a sugary chocolate ice drink-

That memory of queue and heat with ur friends will staple the taste forever in ur mind.

You belong to us after that . Such supremacy-the guy who design this strategy- is fucking smart.

Must be some marketing genius from the 80s since milo only strong since then

What I know is that the principal will get some support or .....
from the company.

Nowadays, the MILO van usually parks beside the school canteen.

The sun is really hot these days, so students can’t queue in the open field.

Now they queue at the canteen — otherwise they might faint.

They just print a man or woman in sports attire cycling on their either in 3-in-1 sachet packaging or in a MILO tin.

That also saves a lot of money.

I didn't boycott them, but I just happen to not buying those brands above in recent years.

Consume before or buy before for sure yes, but just recent years didn't consume these.

Example Instant noodle I bough Nissin recently

Chocolate Malt I bought Ovaltine recent years

And if nestle bought over nissin and Ovaltine? Would you choose other brands?

I don't think I'll go purposely find out Nissin/Ovaltine were owned by who before I make any purchases.

My purchase were purely on how I enjoy the product and its price

That's the beauty of selling food product addiction. You can't control it like how you control ciggarate or drugs.

They're essential when consumed enough
They're a problem when over consumed

Milo is good for a small cup for breakfast.
They're problem when you milo dinosaur it.
