QUOTE(Srbn @ Mar 4 2025, 10:39 AM)
Service charges at the Jalan Kuari Crematorium in Cheras, managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), could go up by a whopping 1,200%.

Shocked by the proposed fee hike – from RM100 to RM1,300 – funeral service providers say it is “unjustifiable and too steep” for the public.

Graceland Funeral Services director Yap Seng Lim said previously, a person would only have to pay RM100 for all services, including cremation and hall usage.

“If the fee hike goes through, the families of the deceased will be charged RM1,000 per cremation and RM300 per day for the crematorium hall.

“This amounts to RM1,300 and is more expensive compared to private crematoriums, which charge between RM800 and RM1,000 for similar services,” he said during a press conference held at the crematorium.

I mean it takes alot of burning to turn something to ash, I agree 100 is unreasonable.

Prepping the body and chamber, burn (fuel), clean-up, occasional servicing & maintenance of the furnace feels alot for just 100.

No comment if really 1.3k though.

bare in mind, this is only cremation
this is not yet those land burial that is practiced by all muslim yet....how expensive and scarcer can it became as years go by
*
Muslim practise wakaf (donation) for land burial
So the cemetery land you see is wakaf by some other muslim. Some also wakaf the hearse and the grave digger salary etc

We also pay ‘khairat’ kematian fund where the collection fund from the community pays for the burial process

All this due to muslim practise of not monetising death into an industry

Maybe other nons can adopt this practise also

Not just dead man's land, this year all the places especially Nons cities all city council assessment rates all rose.

Anyone of you landed owners kena?

They are like modern day Jizya taxes.

It's not the federal govt, but local state/city government doing this.

Which means you're implying that Nons should adopt your faith style to enjoy the same cheaper burial costs?

That's an act coercion on others.

You are enjoying cheap at the expense of others subsidizing yours so you tell them if you want cheap as well follow my way?

Actually Abrahamic faiths such as Judaism and Muslim is similar. They don't allow cremation or burning because they believe human comes from soil and so the body should return back decomposed into the soil naturally. To burn it into ashes by acceleration is insult to God's natural ways.

But for them the process of burial is much simpler, no coffin just wrap the body and bury because after that the body will blend back with the soil which is the most natural method.

Keeping the ashes and worshiping it is idolistic approach.

land is cheap for now for muslim burials.

But as population increases and less available land in future, we will never know if government can still offer at such low prices.
