A17 vs A18

I mentioned used. I dont think we need to compare the processor. If that is the case then we should also look at battery life, camera, refresh rate, built quality etc.

This seems like a decent business phone. Maybe something that companies will give out to on field employees. Decent power to last many years in a basic design..

Was considering this for my mum, but at RM3499 for the 256gb variant, seems like a bad deal when the standard iPhone 16 is just RM1k more with the same storage. Might as well wait for the 17 and see first. She can still manage with her 13 till then end of the year.

How is iPhone 13 something that needs to be "managed"? The phone runs like a dream, more so for non-tech casual users.

https://9to5mac.com/2025/02/19/iphone-16e-binned-a18-chip/

So what about the A18 chip inside the iPhone 16e? According to Apple, it has a 4-core GPU – two less than the A18 Pro and one less than the A18 in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. Potentially, the A18 chip in the iPhone 16e is a binned chip (just as the A18 chip in the iPhone 16 is probably a binned version of the A18 Pro).

Does this mean that the iPhone 16e is slower or will perform worse? Not for most users. The CPU is still the same as the one in the base iPhone 16 model, which is powerful enough to handle intensive tasks. The main difference here is in graphics processing. For comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro’s GPU is around 15% faster than the base A18 GPU due to its extra core.

The only users who might notice a difference are those who constantly play 3D games or edit videos on their iPhone. However, for someone coming from an older iPhone, even the binned version of the A18 chip will be faster.

Was hoping for a RM2400 ish phone for my parents to use with AI and Apple Watch but this price kinda difficult to swallow. I might still buy it, it’s not too much but I am tempted to avoid ip16 and just get the 15 or heck the 14 and call it a day.

I think you can get that price during some of the double digit promo. But still, have to consider spec wise of getting the 16E or the non pro iPhone 15. I would say just sit back and observe how the 16E is going, especially with the new Apple 5G chip and battery life.

Yes, if you are thinking of the pro lineup, go directly for 16PM. Otherwise, just find any discount for the 16 non pro.

Ya, agree. But in real life, even the very "poor battery life" Iphones of recent years can actually do the job of 9-5. Other wise i dont see issue with charging in the middle of the day also. As example I used Iphone 12 mini (considered the worst in the last 5 years excluding Iphone SE) as my work phone with IOS18 just 2 months ago for 3 weeks. It had 91% battery health and yet I managed to survive the workday by just charging it as I go. Frankly speaking no real issue for me. Just a bit lag and it was fine.
We are very far from the days of past when Android phones deplete the battery at 5% per hour with no usage and you panickingly search for the wake timer, wake event, install greenify, deepsleep whatever nonsense. I mean even recent android phones dont need such micro management.
