Hi forummers, comparing Xbox360 and PC games DVD9 and PS3 blu-ray disc, PS3 games usually have more than 10 GB of game data for the same game in multiple platforms. I don't know what is the usage for the extra file size in PS3 game disc? What additional data to be stored? Does that mean PS3 uses least compression compare to PC and Xbox360? I read that Bluray movie must have at least 7.1 ch sound, but does that includes games as well? Is that PS3 sound will always better than PC game sound? Coz most PC games will not have 7.1 ch nowadays, correct me if I m wrong. And also isn't the bigger size in the disc, the longer time it take to access? This is one of the disadvantage of console compare to PC. Overall, PC games can have awesome graphics, Xbox360 can achieve decent ones too by just using DVD-DL which is 9 GB. So why PS3 games would need that much of game data size to produce graphic almost on par to PC?

I read some an article that all the game that out now haven't fully use the full power of PS3 (I dig it out and share it here..but no promises OK)..they say that they will gonna be firmware to unlock the full performance when there is a game that require such raw power..Think bout it how many PC game that uses all the power of Quad Core..which is the same with PS3...By the time they make full use of the quad core then the raw data on the disc will be use. Maybe not now but we will get out answer few more years to come..

Try compare between FULL HD Blu-Ray movie with common DVD movie (either single or dual-layer, which is DVD5 and DVD9)... and u'll understand the different in term of video and audio quality ... but definitely u need a FULL HD display as well for the viewing at full quality. Few months back I been to a Sony Roadshow at 1 Utama and the people there showed and explained how different between FULL HD Blu-Ray movie and also our common DVD movie . Example they showed me the Open Season movie in FULL HD Blu-Ray and also normal DVD version, the fur of the bear really realistic and detailed in FULL HD while it is just pixelized (got such word? ) in normal DVD. The uncompressed sound quality of Blu-Ray definitely a lot better than DVD compressed ones .

actually PS3 now already can be tapao'ed by current latest PC hardwares oledi
their specs are pretty much drafted in 2005, and revised in 2006. Although the RAM is fast, but just 256 MB only, it will be a bottleneck.
its still a console anyway, can't compare with always-growing PC

Bigger space gives freedom to game developer to expand their creativity and ideas.
For example, Heavenly Sword has over 10 GB of sound FX, with three and a half hours of music, 4500 different lines of dialogue, and an hour and a half of cut scenes recorded in 11 different languages.
Most people here who already played Heavenly Sword will know and agree that the level of quality and effort from the game developers to achieve the best game experience ever.

AFAIK,it is (as of right now) mostly used for multiple languages, and/or uncompressed audio. not many developers use the extra BR space to "expand their creativity and ideas"/"create longer games" This post has been edited by Mgsrulz: Nov 9 2007, 12:23 AM
