Guys, my S22 (base model) is now showing pink vertical line on the left side of screen. I bought it in April 2022. Never dropped it – the screen is otherwise in a flawless condition.
I went to Samsung express service center. They claim it cannot be replaced FOC.
This is a premium phone, how can the screen kaput so quickly? I'm not the only one - it seems many on the S20/21/22 lines have experienced it!
I updated the Oct and Nov updates back to back on 16th December 2024, but only saw the pink line this morning when I woke up.
I don’t use fast charging – only charge using Apple iPad’s 20W charger. I also turn on battery saver to conserve the shitty battery life.
I was going to upgrade to the S25, but unlikely now as even my previous S10e suffered display issues towards the end (the screen would have a yellowish tint - luckily it was intermittent and wasn't present when I performed the trade-in).

Enough to raise awareness about their shoddy screens. It's unacceptable. I have been on the S10e as my first flagship phone, and then S22. Was planning to get S25.
How did you do it? I just from their express service center, they said no such thing. I read about it on Lowyat before going there.
They will do promo sometimes. But issue is I only see them doing this once for the past few years, and coincidentally it is this year when my phone have issue.

All in all, super disappointed in Samsung. I like their smaller phones. But they are hastening their downfall. It's not just me, there are hundreds of thousands impacted globally. If a phone can't even last for 3 years with good care, what's the point of buying it?
I can accept if it was either due to user error, or due to isolated incident. This can happen to anyone at anytime, when you buy any electronic device.
But the issue here is, this problem seems to be reported all over the world, in situations where people haven't dropped or damaged their phones. It is, by all accounts, a manufacturing defect.
Might seem like a small problem, but I'm sure the end of Samsung is near. The death knell is not accomodating impacted customers.
Do they think people like us will buy another one of their phones? Do they not realise, that we will tell everyone and anyone we know, about not buying Samsung's phones?

Lol, don't so emo bro. They are a giant company and it takes much more than this kind of issue to take them down. U like it or not, they gonna survive. We won't impact them, even if u choose to buy ccp phone next. And in fact their new phones won't have this issue anymore as far as I know.
This is definitely manufacturing defect, hence they replace it for free early of the year.

Bersangka baik, it is just small ligh saber issue, not serious case like note 7 boom sakalaka cases.
Had a S20+ I bought for someone, she didn't do jack shit and lines start to come out after months of using it, even replaced screen also same problem, in the end sold it to 2nd hand dealer.
I have a 2nd hand Note 20 5G, used for 2 years already no problem
warranty is 1 year so why would they cover a 2 year old phone FOC
henpon are getting expensive but manufacturer still die2 dont want to make 2 years as standard warranty term. even if they extend the warranty period, they will add the cost to the phone price, see xiaomi T series(2 years warranty) and poco F series(one year warranty), similar spec but T series are few hundred ringgit more expensive.

I even enquired about the trade in value to their S24 while waiting. They said without pink line, I can get RM900, but with pink line I can get max RM225.
What the hell? They even penalise the trade-in value to their own phone! Due to a bloody manufacturing defect!

pc monitor, RM300, cheap laptop RM1200, 3 years warranty phone RM5000, 1 year

If their next series won't have this issue, the least they can do is to not penalize the pink line. Mine is worth RM900 trade-in but due to pink line, is just RM225. That's the bare minimum they can do!

i believe some country already did mandated to give at least 2 years warranty. our country probably wont do so because it will increase the cost of low end phone, hence anger the b40s
i have 2 samseng A series fons.. 1 is 4 yrs old & 1 is 2 yrs old. was tempted to go for flagship ones but issues like this made me not to..so ended up with A series only. so far no issues on the screens or the batteries.
people that said should buy iphone instead, uhm yeah. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...e+vertical+line even if the issue happens to 5% of the users, it wont warrant for a product recall because of the design flaw. the best manufacturer could do were replace the screen even when the product is out of warranty.

thanks to all samseng fags, keep buying the products no matter what
typical fags and masochists
Yup. U see in Facebook so many people complain green line but yet still upgrade to newer Samsung models. Samsung don't even have to worry about affected sales. Already kena from S20 S21 S22 S23 yet still they buy.

thats where they can get extra revenue lol
they sell it at extra 500-700 and how many phones will be problematic within those 2 years probs only around 10% of total sales number

actually they have a program to repair it FOC for the first time if there is a green line problem happen to the phone. becoz these green line problem is getting crazy so they do that program to replace the screen. this thing is also happening in india and samsung india offered them to do a one time FOC screen replacement. but samseng malaysia really like cibai one till now silent about this problem.
Same. Been using Samsung flagship phones for 12 years before my A54, never had screen issues.
Statistically, we are much much more likely to have an OK screen than a bad screen. The bad screen owners are, understandably, much more upset and therefore much more vocal.
I would worry about my screen developing this problem about as much as I would worry about getting into a plane crash.

QUOTE
Subject: Escalation: Request for FOC Replacement for Green Line Defect on Samsung Phone
Dear Edward Han,
I hope this email reaches you in good health and spirits. I am writing to escalate an unresolved issue regarding a defect in my Samsung Galaxy S23 (Model: SM-S911BZGCXME, S/N: RFCWxxxxx, IMEI: 3587099xxxxxx). Specifically, the device has developed a persistent green line on the display, which has not been caused by any mishandling or accidental damage.
After researching and engaging with other Samsung users, I have discovered that this issue is widespread and has been reported by numerous customers. It appears to stem from a manufacturing or design defect, which I believe makes this a matter of corporate responsibility rather than an isolated case.
Unfortunately, when I approached Samsung Malaysia’s customer service team, I was informed that I would need to bear the cost of repair or replacement. This response has left me deeply disappointed, as I believe that loyal customers like myself should not be penalized for what appears to be a product defect. I have always appreciated Samsung’s commitment to innovation and quality, and I expected the after-sales service to reflect the same values.
As the CEO of Malaysia, I am confident that you value customer satisfaction and brand trust. I kindly request your intervention to ensure that this defect is rectified at no cost to me. Offering free-of-charge repairs or replacements in cases like these would reinforce Samsung’s reputation as a brand that stands by its products and values its customers.
I sincerely hope that you will take this matter under consideration and help expedite a favorable resolution.
Thank you for your time and understanding. I look forward to your response and a resolution to this issue. Please feel free to contact me at XXXX@gmail.com or 0163xxxx should you need additional information.

Iphone just works every single time. Android will always have some problem whenever u are rushing to do something
green lines, dead pixels are common in Samsung phones. If you are unlucky it happened outside your warranty window, too bad. You can try to check outside repairers for lower price than official Samsung for the screen replacement.

My samsung 20 plus full of green lines.. bought realme GT Pro 2 years ago as a replacement since i dont trust sammy anymore.. then just as the warranty finish mid green line appeared... so now no more realme brand for me... I wonder if they use samsung oled screen
Theres repair centre at endah parade, offering good quality screen below 1k
next time learn from lesson and avoid samsung, that vertical line issues has been around since s10. Some say its cause by the phone screen burn too fast due to 120hz display and samsung phone pushing the panel to brightest capacity
ts can try setting > display > motion smoothness > choose standard
if luck on your side the screen will be back to normal temporarily
otherwise stick to flagship china brands, more reliable

The phone overheated.
Same like for some people who got the vertical line after upgrading firmware. The update process for some reason makes the device too hot.

no la, mostly its because of water damage, humidity creep in and corrode or short curcuit the oled component inside. i got my phone greenline just few an hour after the phone soaked from rain. good thing xiaomi just replace the screen (still in warranty) in one business day. your phone probably last longer if it sit in aircon room all the time and the phone is properly seal (water proof)

so that's how they flood the market with used OLED screen nowadays. aint cheap too.
it still complex process to refurbish the screen, but hey at least it is far cheaper than ori (could be refurbish) screen. the oled panel for my phone is around rm190 in aliexpress. that is cheap. rm178 also got yo.

Realme can go change screen for free even after warranty. A lot of people got GT6 for free because they are out of screen.

I dont undrstand.. samseng sold their amoled display to other mobile phone manufacturer... but other phones with thier amoled display seems ok with no issues of green/pink lines... but their own phone still having this issues..

What causes it to be far more prevent for Samsung models vs other manufacturers
its a common oled failure la, nothing new. if it is really manufacturing defect, you will see the green line much earlier. what you having right now probably either water damage that corrode the components, electrical failure, wear out bent cable or physical damage. you just having a bad luck, either repair the screen or buy a new phone and move on.
this is why i hardly invest on expensive phone, stuff breaks.

I think it had to do with Samsung abysmal QC. My LG V50 which used LG own pOLED is still working just fine to this day and I bought that phone back in 2020, that's like 4 years already. My other Huawei P40 Pro phone (BOE OLED panel) also never had display issues.
Shame they had to drop out of smartphone market. I would upgrade to their latest model if they were still around today.

My P30 pro still working fine too. Samsung is so lucky cause Huawei is affected by the google and chip ban. When there is no powerful competitor, they are taking customers for granted.

Its a problem with any phone that uses samsung screens, which is the vast majority of the market. I got it on my sony xperia before as well.

Its a problem with any phone that uses samsung screens, which is the vast majority of the market. I got it on my sony xperia before as well. Jokes on you guys, the iphone uses the same displays from samsung If you google around, many iphone users also face the same issue.
I've done some research. Yes it seems to impact all manufacturers using Samsung displays, but it seems to be disproportionately impacting Samsung's flagship lines. You will find some iPhone users with this issue, but it's nowhere near as prevalent to suggest a manufacturing defect.
The curved displays will have it worse. This is because the flexes are bent and stressed all the time and this will lead to early delaminating and failure of the ACF connection. This is why Samsung top models get it worse, as most of their models are curved displays. People in the industry know curved displays have a shorter lifespan. And these lines are there since s8/s9. They do nothing much about it because it makes people buy new phones just like you don’t mind the battery going kaput.
iPhones using displays from Samsung also suffer from this but much lesser occurrence because of their flat surface being less stressful to the flex cable and joints.
Also, I believe even up to today they will still provide free repair on pretty old iPhones with green / pink / blue lines. But don’t quote me on Malaysia as we are a dump site.
I used to buy S series because it was great value but exynos is really Samsungs gift of sh!t to the whole non US world and telling us to eat it hot.
What’s worse is recently I was planning a move back to android after having a deteriorating experience with iPhones, and was browsing in a store. There were pixels, vivos, honors and lastly Samsung on display. The worst phones in terms of performance, lagging and response was the latest S series. You don’t get software right, hardware right, warranty right, then what for?
Realme can go change screen for free even after warranty. A lot of people got GT6 for free because they are out of screen.
Went to Realme service today and was offered GT6 for RM700 + trade in.. still a good deal.. they can replace a new screen for free but have to wait next year (February).. the defect GT2 pro screen was indeed from samsung..

Eh, U didn't tell them a lot of people got GT6 for free. Tell them you not willing to wait. How did those people got it for free?

I did.. he said screen already available just need to wait, apparently got long Q .. then he showed me the new gt6.. and its not using Samsung screen.. a bit of a downgrade with non 2k, but reliable..

Maybe can try another service Center? Before that, go to the Facebook Realme group and read up. See which outlet give free upgrade. Good luck
I suspect since they also supply to other manufacturers like Apple, the better yield or quality are sold to higher bidder. the lower quality they makan themselves.
My S20u got a green line about 2 days ago, this is my 3rd screen btw The 1st is change during extended warranty period because of MCO, the 2nd is just last year but covered by SAMSUNG but this time if I want to change I need to fork it my self around 1.2k.
I think amoled does have this tendency my oppo also have the similar problem

Not sure I only know my phone tak da rosak compared to Samsung screengate
Dude you have the same exact story as me. Boughted S10 around 2018, display dimmed after heated up a bit, quickly traded in for a s21 in 2021 or 2022, then pink line showed up in Oct/Nov, samseng refused to repair, end up I had to pay out of pocket, rm600+ methinks.
Swear off samseng for a while til I realize there's no other android phones worth buying lel.
Could one of the reasons the Samsung flagships get it more than other flagships example iPhone be due to heat dissipation? From my experience, my S22 runs a whole lot hotter on average doing simple things like Shopee app or Waze compared to iPhone 13. Even when charging, phone gets rather hot. This is despite charging using 20W on both phones and turning on battery saver on S22.

What phones are u using now? For andriod, samsung are not really best bang for buck phones..so got me thinking what u mean by no other andriod phones worth buying other than samsung.

Swapped the screen, so still using s21. I found out it's using Snapdragon so it's probably good for the foreseeable future.
Since this is a manufacturing defect, is it too much to ask Samsung to either:
1. Replace the screen FOC even though out of warranty period 2. Not penalise the trade-in value of the phone in their own trade-in program (my S22 is RM900 without this defect, and RM225 with!) 3. Offer overtrade bonus to upgrade to the newer S24 or S25 series, where the problem has presumably been resolved
Also, is it possible to launch a class action lawsuit?

No small phone in market other than samsung and recently google. Even asus already give up small phone market direct to 6.7inch territory.
Yes, the "small" phone market is incredibly limited.
If u really wan small phones...not much left. S24 or xperia 5v only. Just slightly bigger and I think still very much nicer to hold is xiaomi 14 or if u wan cheaper, can try global version motorola s50 aka motorola edge 50 neo.
Sent this email to Samsung Malaysia CEO office. Don't have high hopes, but no harm to try.
---------------
Hi there,
I am been a Samsung user for multiple generations. Before my current S22 256GB, I had a Galaxy S10e 128GB.
Recently, following the update on 16 Dec 2024, my phone display developed a pink line on the left side of the screen.
I went to Samsung express service center on 20 Dec 2024. The technician confirmed it is a hardware issue and I needed to replace the screen.
However, since my screen is otherwise free of any scratch or damage, I requested for Samsung to bear the cost of the repair. Of late, there are many incidents of people with the same phone as me (S20 / S21 / S22 lines) experiencing some kind of green line or pink link on their display.
The technician said they will have to send in a report to Samsung Malaysia to request for the free screen replacement.
On 24 Dec 2024, I received a call from Samsung Malaysia that the screen will not be replaced for free. It will be charged RM500++.
Today, I went to Samsung Publika to check my S22 trade-in value. The sales executive said that the pink line is considered a screen defect, and as such negatively impacts the trade-in value of my device. I was told that if my screen didn't have this defect, I could get up to RM900 when trade-in. However, with the defect, the trade-in value is only RM225.
How is this acceptable? Samsung Malaysia will neither repair the screen, and will also penalize the trade-in value of my device. I was actually thinking of getting the S25 series when it launches next month, but Samsung's customer service is atrocious. A flagship phone should be able to last for many years. Samsung promises 7 years of software upgrades. What's the point, when the phone's screen gets damaged after 2 or 3 years?
I appeal to Samsung Malaysia to do something about this. My phone has never been dropped - there is no scratches to the screen and no dents to the body. I've taken good care of the phone, yet the screen has become defective. It is indicative of a manufacturing defect.
If Samsung Malaysia does not offer a good solution to this issue, I will escalate the matter to the Malaysian authorities by lodging a complaint with Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri Dan Kos Sara Hidup (KPDN).
But i doubt you gonna win the case. Its gonna be very subjective on how you can prove it is a manufacturing defect. More so when it is out of warranty. Samsung can easily escape saying all of their phones comes with 1 year warranty and any repair after that will involve cost. Authorities wont be able to do anything bout it.

Anyhow, its good effort. We can learn from this.
I mean thousands of people are experiencing this specific issue all over the world. Samsung themselves have had a free screen replacement program even for out of warranty S20/21/22 devices earlier this year.
Quite obvious there is some QC lapse or defect in the manufacturing process.

No parts are build to last a life time, hence this is where the 1 year warranty comes in. The free replacement program is something like a goodwill/promotion from them to attract more customers and give confidence, not to correct or compensate their customers.
I don't have screen issue, but I have 4G issue. I looked it up and apparently it is also a common problem. 4G connection is weak after some time using it. It is very unstable now.
Same issue with Note 4, S9 and now S22. Note 4 and S9 are not mine, belongs to my family. I went back to Samsung after Huawei got nuked. As someone else said above, apart from Samsung, other phones are really not that attractive.
Now am considering to change phone, and am really trying to avoid Samseng.

I don't disagree. Everything electronic is bound to fail eventually.
However, in the case of the pink/green line on thr Galaxy S 20/21/22, it appears to be significantly more widespread than the "design failure rate". That is indicative of some sort of design flaw or manufacturing defect.
I mean, more iPhones are sold globally every year compared to Samsung's S series phones. iPhones also use Samsung AMOLED screens. But even then, this issue is not anywhere near as widespread among iPhone users.

Did anyone managed to get their screen replaced for free recently ?
my phone had the pink line popped up out of the sudden, just a while ago.. there was an update done yesterday i'm unsure how would is be related. never had any issue with the phone prior to this.
Yes I got mine replaced for free earlier this year. I had to write some strongly worded email to Samsung Malaysia CEO. Also probably helped that my past few phones have been Samsung flagships. And of course, phone must have zero physical damage.

i've been using a lot of samsung high end phones. many of them got various flaws. they're just lucky that some people who buy this brand have the money to just buy a new one when shit happens. samsung phones don't last.
