The major question with this car is not the design or engineering. It will be whether 3-7 down the road when you really want to do major service, will Tan Chong do something? Will Nissan still be there? Which 3rd party shop not in Klang Valley can really fix a cold door hybrid

U think too far, ppl change car every 5yrs... most china car also same.. In china , ppl normally change car 3 to 5yrs

At least is a Nissan rather then some china brand which well known to disappear at will...

You made a valid point about 3-7 years down the road if Tan Chong will still exist. There is a possibility as no one knows but I suspect due to their long-time presence in Malaysia they will continue to exist. Your remark is actually applicable to most new Chinese car manufacturers/dealers/distributors too. I am not sure about the current market conditions but so far I heard that Ora Good Cat has already ceased production or sales due to poor reception, I'm not sure.

The Nissan Kicks although can be labeled as a hybrid is mainly running on petrol so it's still a pretty safe bet. I would only worry more if it's a pure EV.

I actually prefer the more elegant looks of the current Kicks than the new one which I assume is exclusive to the US market and not Asean. The US version of the Kicks looks to macho or ostentatious, screaming, "look at me, I look special and different!".

Not necessarily. A Nissan kicks being driven by electric motor and charged car has most of the parts of a ICE car and many more parts than a EV car too (inverter).
A random thing like engine mounting, bearing or suspension related issue can easily be a headache if the dealer cease to exist if you cannot buy the parts..

And true, this applies to most Chinese car Oems today. No argument.

If this concern is valid to you then buyer beware.

Tan Chong will continue to exist? If you are interested in finance this corporation is a dumpster fire stock, depending on dying principals from Japan.

I am aware the problems that Tan Chong are facing and Nissan as a company worldwide. Worse comes to worst Tan Chong can joint venture with other companies or be completely taken over by one if the need arises in the future. Or completely go bankrupt and cease to exist in couple more years as you have suggested. This is anyone's speculation. Usually when companies are in dire straits, not only Tan Chong but any other companies not specific to the auto industry, they will usually attempt to salvage the situation by looking for other companies to joint venture. The last resort is to be completely taken over by another company.

I donโ€™t know, itโ€™s entirely up to speculation. But worst case example should be GM / Chevy in Malaysia.

Spare part for Japanese car is the least worry, why? Got many half-cut available after model already OTR in Japan for like 3 to 5 years above will start to scrap. Last time people also worried about Prius spare part, now half-cut parts berlambak for Prius. My mechanic already help a lot of Prius owners get parts from half-cut when they felt new parts is expensive.

so far only saw 2 instances of Kicks

the first one on tiktok is owner baru get car then kena accident very kesian

the other one on the road.

still not many kicks owners around i think, not too popular. that pricepoint target audience i think alot jump to WRV instead. shame because it's quite an interesting car.

I would not recommend anyone to get a WRV

its a poor man HRV

I wish H Malaysia kept the BRV instead of introducing this junk .

Agree, thus why WRV sales is terrible, even City hatchback seem more OTR then WRV.
There is no proper 7 seater in Honda now except direct import, thus why i think the decision to drop BRV really bad.

are sales that bad tho? i practically see at least one every road.

terrible as it is, wrv is what modern consumers want - a small suv.

whole industry is saturated and clawing for market share in this segment. ativa, upcoming nexis, yaris cross, wrv, etc. not a fan of this suv trend dry.gif

depends on where you live, I think . my place 0 .

yeah too bad the HRV is priced very steep .

only choice is those two (ativa / WRV)

dunno when will nexis / yaris cross will land into our shores. but tiggo cross will definitely eat up WRV .

test drove it before. It is small, cramped , and the interior is so bad . I pity those who bought it . either get the ativa or save up to other SUV .

btw SUV has its merits. After I drove HRV, I thought the city was too cramped and low. I don't think I can go back to sedans (otherwise my financial suffer then have to downgrade sad.gif )

If you think Nissan is a sinking ship, then you don't see enough. True that globally all you get are negative news plus ETCM sucks locally. I frequents Japan yearly and i can tell you that the domestic market there are strong enough the company will not die like some small fry China car maker

Japanese government/bankers usually will help their own home grown company.
FYI, Mazda also been in financial trouble for many years and been burning a lot of cash just to sell their cars.
Yes, google it, even youtube got plenty of info's about it.
