Following a bad review of Malaysia from a Chinese tourist, another tourist from China is unhappy with his recent experience in Malaysia and urged others not to include our country in their list of holiday destinations.

In a viral Xiao Hong Shu (RED) post, the man claimed that Malaysia is dirty and added that airport staff were allegedly rude to him.

“They look down on you if you don’t speak the same language,” the tourist remarked.

Unfortunately, this was not the only bad experience that he had to share in his post. The tourist said that in the entirety of Kuala Lumpur city, the only place that is worth visiting is KLCC – a place he dubbed good for taking pictures.

“Honestly, the prices of goods here are almost the same as back in China.”

“The takeaway food, the transport, nothing is great here!”

In the meantime, the tourist continued to express what he disliked about Malaysia, citing the public transportation which to him, is a major inconvenience.

“There are no pavements for pedestrians to walk on. Driving is the best way to travel. The public transportation here is so inconvenient!”

The hotels in the city also did not live up to his expectations, especially when he had to pay extra for checking out 10 minutes late.

“This feels like daylight robbery.”

Last but not least, the man also expressed dissatisfaction with the takeaway food here, particularly with the portions and the way food is packed.

“The takeaway cost me around RMB150 (approximately RM91). Not only is the portion lesser but they packed the food in a plastic bag. I didn’t get my utensils, even after requesting for it.”

At the end of his post, the tourist told others not to fall for the good reviews online and said that other than shopping, there is nothing else to do in Malaysia.

one of the point is kinda true indeed...witnessed it while on a flight back from China on MAS.

A China lady was asking a steward in Mandarin for something and instead of telling her he don't understand Chinese & get another steward or stewardess to help, he kept asking her to speak in English. Then the passengers beside her sort of tried to help

To be fair, if they come to visit KL only, there are really nothing much to do here

We also know it as most of Klang Valley people spend most of their time in malls only

Comparing to cities in China, KL is probably third tier cities

To really experience Malaysia, they need to get out from Klang Valley but if they complain transport is bad in KL, the transport outside KL is going to be worse

Although I do not like Xixipee and some of their rude people and customs I gotta agree that this shouldnt be happening but unfortunately is. I have witnessed this at KLIA also. Can't they just get someone to help or quickly whip out their phones to google translate?

Really bodoh betul to insist that a person speak the language they don't.

Well 1 of the reason they like Malaysia is the Chinese here do speak the same language that makes them feel comfortable. It's indeed whatever we have here they have it in China and better. China is no longer living in the 80s or 90s.
Remember Hongkies always acted arrogant but they suffer the consequences. Do you want us to go the same path?
Any statistics that which country tourist is the well spender in Malaysia?

Our people who worked in airports are just not friendly enough and does not take the effort to try to improve their service

I was in Japan airport and had problem with printing out tickets as the machine ran out of paper

The airport staff was so friendly even though she can't speak English

She just took out her phone and google translate telling us what's wrong

Then she guide us to the counter and help us print directly from counter

On top of that she was damn good looking laugh.gif

Unfortunately, the perception on China tourists is very bad among Malaysian

You can see it in k all the comments

It's true that there are some China tourists who behave badly but there are a lot who are just normal tourists

However, the perception on China is bad and anytime someone from China behave badly, it will become viral, and it affects the perception even worse

Everything about China today is magnified and will easily become viral

This is true, so many innocent normal china tourists who are just here for visit and don’t cause any trouble, after their visit they would rather go home to their home country.

But then there are many racist here that look down on them, they think that China is still some back water country behind Malaysia and that these China Chinese are seeking refuge and wanting to stay permanently here in Malaysia. The irony

i would suggest all malaysians regardless of ethnicity & race, strictly speak only english & melayu to china tourists so that they wont come in to cause trouble again. they are the only tourists who are not welcome by many countries around the world & we all know why.

This world got cantonese, hakka, hokkien.
Majority of us are southern.

They should not expect all to speak to them in Mandarin.

I think it's more like our airport staff expecting everyone to speak BM lah.

This is what he said "Airport staff were allegedly rude to him. They look down on you if you don’t speak the same language".

Read properly lah

He was complaining airport staff was rude and look down on people who don't speak the same language

It's more like you can't speak BM, they are rude to you

For your information, there are more people in China who speak Cantonese, Hakka and Hokkien than in Malaysia

Also, majority of Chinese in Malaysia today speak more Mandarin than dialects

Our people who worked in airports are just not friendly enough and does not take the effort to try to improve their service

I was in Japan airport and had problem with printing out tickets as the machine ran out of paper

The airport staff was so friendly even though she can't speak English

She just took out her phone and google translate telling us what's wrong

Then she guide us to the counter and help us print directly from counter

On top of that she was damn good looking  laugh.gif

Don't be like that la bang, must show a little bit of the malaysian hospitality and humility. How hard is it to hire mandarin speaking staff to assist the low esteemed, katak bawah tempurung new master race? All my kids also speak mandarin, wuhan accent so I guess can train a few mat rempits too.

We faster must send Ah Tiong to China to apologise profusely and commit seppuku on our behalf. We'll also make sure to give big discount to anyone with CCP passport so that everything will be cheaper than China in the hope that many more would come and spend here instead of 1st world countries and help out our fellow tertindas citizens make lots of money so they can pay taxes.

China is our no1 trading partner & no2 tourist source. We have surpluses with them for many years. These revenues contribute to d tongkat the majority has been enjoying. So be grateful n dont bite the hands that feed u.
And since we have many tourist from China, HK, & Taiwan, we should increase more immigration staff who speaks Mandarin. Nowadays more n more type M r studying in sjkc they should be given priority in govt service.
We should also welcome their rich ppl here via mm2h, guaranteed to contribute % to our gdp. 1.2mil ppl spend 100k each is 120bil/year.

We have never really have a tourist friendly culture.

Our superiority complex permeates all levels due to our R&R politics influencing society. How to be tourist friendly with such attitude.

The only tourist we angkat is Mat Salleh, even beg-packer we angkat. The colonial superiority is deeply ingrained even after 60+ years of independence.

“They look down on you if you don’t speak the same language,” the tourist remarked.
- No full context hard to judge. But they probably fell into false expectations when a lot of these tourism-friendly soc med posts promoted msia as Chinese friendly country where lots of people can speak Chinese.
Look down? maybe. Disgusts? mostly likely, since the peninsular has a lot of politically induced sinophobia phenomena.

"The tourist said that in the entirety of Kuala Lumpur city, the only place that is worth visiting is KLCC – a place he dubbed good for taking pictures."
- True to 99% of people, False statement to politicians since they need to justify their contract awards to contractors beautifying the city. E.g. River of life is just another big longkang for most of us.

“Honestly, the prices of goods here are almost the same as back in China.”
- True

“The takeaway food, the transport, nothing is great here!”
- True

“There are no pavements for pedestrians to walk on. Driving is the best way to travel. The public transportation here is so inconvenient!”
-True

The hotels in the city also did not live up to his expectations, especially when he had to pay extra for checking out 10 minutes late.
-True

Last but not least, the man also expressed dissatisfaction with the takeaway food here, particularly with the portions and the way food is packed.
“The takeaway cost me around RMB150 (approximately RM91). Not only is the portion lesser but they packed the food in a plastic bag. I didn’t get my utensils, even after requesting for it.”
-Expensive but subpar takeaway without utensils? Doubts

At the end of his post, the tourist told others not to fall for the good reviews online and said that other than shopping, there is nothing else to do in Malaysia.
-KL true. Msia no. Sabah is good, Penang is good, Peninsular east coast beach used to be good

One user unhappy about Japan for example... Media will write all of Japan is badd based on 1 or 2 comment.

Anyway... World of buzz is known to practice gutter journalism and ktards just eat it all up

PETALING JAYA, June 26 — World of Buzz has been making the news for all the wrong reasons recently, with several allegations regarding workplace practices levelled at them by former employees of the social news website. First, articles from WOB were banned from the Malaysia subreddit after moderators found the site conducting "dodgy stuff” on the subreddit — including planting articles and creating fake accounts to "push positive opinions”.

Meanwhile, an account claiming to be owned by the former Content Lead and Writer for World of Buzz replied to the original announcement post, criticising the company for its "unethical” tactics. A response to his post by an account claiming to be from Michelle Tan, one of WOB’s co-founders, argued that he was trying to "spread fake rumours”.

Both posts’ criticism centre around the allegedly unethical journalistic practises of WOB — referring to the platform’s content as "copypasta” and "clickbait-worthy”. Workplace culture was also criticised by the posts, while the lack of legitimate sourcing for "news” articles was highlighted as well.

Some of it is true though, no need to depend on World of Buzz. Public transport and pedestrian walkways just look at Sinjiapor.

Some of it maybe unfair, Takeaway usually will provide utensils when requested, late checkout (10 minutes lol, this one maybe bs) also usually ok as long as you inform them in advance.

Who read WOB for authentic news stories?

Like I say, they just repost a lot of things which were posted on social media

It's up to individual to believe it or not and in this case, do you think the China tourist did not post what was revealed by WOB?

Who read WOB for authentic news stories?

Like I say, they just repost a lot of things which were posted on social media

It's up to individual to believe it or not and in this case, do you think the China tourist did not post what was revealed by WOB?

Some of it is true though, no need to depend on World of Buzz. Public transport and pedestrian walkways just look at Sinjiapor.

Some of it maybe unfair, Takeaway usually will provide utensils when requested, late checkout (10 minutes lol, this one maybe bs) also usually ok as long as you inform them in advance.
*
To be fair, the China tourist is probably comparing the food delivery service here with what they have in China

As for hotels, they are some hotels that are really strict about checkout and if you're late, they do charge you

And for airport staff to be rude if you can't speak BM, I think a lot of people has seen this before too

So is what they posted fake?

If it's not fake, it's actually an important information for our tourism board who is trying hard to attract more tourist from China

Like I say before, is the info fake? If it's real, it's something that our tourism board need to pay attention to because like I say before, XHS is a very popular app in China and if a lot of people believe what is written, the number of tourist coming from China will reduce.

WOB has a lot of sensational stories that they pick from social media. However, to brush whatever they publish as just crap is foolish as some of what they publish are reflection from social media.

Also, all news agency love negative news. Positive news don't sell. Bad news are always more newsworthy than positive news. Are you saying all the mainstream media are not unbiased?

>They look down on you if you don’t speak the same language
Actually this is true, i know where he get this, when i cant talk Cantonese fluently / malay fluently, i tend to get look down by others

>worth visiting is KLCC
Also true, KLCC basically has aquaria and petrosains, if u havent been 2 of these, u should go as a malaysian. I also truly understand where he get this from, he probably havent visit zoo negara but zoo negara very shit and many people. I understand him. He probably didnt visit batu cave too. Other than that he should wait for 21-22 dec for anime comic fesita with 70k people

>the prices of goods here are almost the same as back in China
yes , my relative go there and say china price is almost same as kuala lumpur, know as first tier city in china words.

>takeaway food, the transport, nothing is great here
yes , my cousin say over there in china, delivery is massively different . Was told garb / food panda / shopee food have lesser rider now

>There are no pavements for pedestrians to walk on. Driving is the best way to travel. The public transportation here is so inconvenient
Again this is true, public transportation i think he ride bus ? no tng card to ride mrt ? other than that walking in around city is kinda dangerous if u not careful

>pay extra for checking out 10 minutes late
dont know this

>the way food is packed
what u expect bro, 5star hand u it is ?

>other than shopping, there is nothing else to do in Malaysia
Totally agree.

TLDR : almost all are correct except the food packing method, he think he can bring china culture to worldwide and apply to his world meh.

You are proving what the tourist say is right

Compare to what I experience in Japan

The airport staff can't speak English but she use Google translate to tell me the machine is out of paper. She then bring me to the counter to do luggage check in

See the difference?

You are proving what the tourist say is right

Compare to what I experience in Japan

The airport staff can't speak English but she use Google translate to tell me the machine is out of paper. She then bring me to the counter to do luggage check in

See the difference?

people vehemently defending against tourist complains, has obviously not traveled far.

yep, many countries expecting high tourism numbers have guest officers around ticket stations and the such.

These officers also help out-of-town folks, folks with special needs, and the such, so Malaysians also benefits.

long long time ago, Msia has them, then we got useless leaders whom abandoned their responsibilities

Being cold shouldered is kinda expected while travelling. But don't take it to heart and find someone else. They are not obliged to help coz understandably ppl have their own lives, altho its nice if they do.

Some ppl will help while other just shrug and walk away. It's normal.

Different people react differently. You choose to keep quiet, it's your choice. Some people choose to share their stories on social media to let people know that not everyone is friendly in Malaysia especially at the airport. So, future tourist will be more prepared

Customer experience should be prioritised at all times if the aim is to attract as many tourists as possible. So, any events of rudeness should have been prevented at the first place. The fact that a staff can rude and action/investigation is only done when a complaint/viral video is made, is what is wrong with Malaysian culture. I don’t know what disciplinary action was taken, but he should have been fired to set an example, imho. I wonder how many cases of rude service are there and tourist just diam diam.

If aim is to discourage tourism then, just continue as is. No need worry about rudeness.

It's probably just Thursday for these staff, so there should be some kind of campaign the Ministry can organize to achieve those levels of friendliness as performance targets for all airport staff.

Don't recall such campaign nowadays since "cuti cuti Malaysia" asides from driving numbers.

TLDR : almost all are correct except the food packing method, he think he can bring china culture to worldwide and apply to his world meh.

regarding food packing, since they requesting for utensil, i guess they probably expecting it to come with a bowl/plate/container as the place they stay probably don't provide any bowl/plate.

you know, some countries have this extremely unusual practice to actually seek public feedback and improvement through city council committees and elections for comptrollers etc. They even have neighborhood business council meetings that have meeting quarterly to discuss how things can be made better.

very very strange.

such an alien concept for Malaysians

If i based my travels on airport experience, i would urge everyone to not travel abroad anywhere in the world.

Following a bad review of Malaysia from a Chinese tourist, another tourist from China is unhappy with his recent experience in Malaysia and urged others not to include our country in their list of holiday destinations.

In a viral Xiao Hong Shu (RED) post, the man claimed that Malaysia is dirty and added that airport staff were allegedly rude to him.

china people come spending, treat them nice a bit la. other country airport usually also have chinese, moreover our country have 20%++ native chinese citizen. no harm to pun chinese word also. but many hati tissue scare je.

also most issue stated by the complaint really can agree. if you travel to many country before, not just china, we really have many to improve. packing in plastic liket that really bad, i dont recall any country do that except for 3rd world country. hell in fact, mcd / fast food at 3rd world dont do that. so please la, use proper utensil if want do food delivery.

i also agree the racistsm is strong here, highly due to inferiority and many brainwashed by our gov to get votes. many gov servant (lower tier) have nasty racissm towards other race.

Sure. Do urge everyone not to travel. Nothing wrong with that if that is your opinion.

Like i said, if what he experienced is true and wants to urge others not to come, it’s his right. We need to improve ourselves and generate more positive experience for other people to counter his experience.

Overall my experience as tourist when I was in Japan their airport / train station staff are nice and helpful. Once I was in Hokkaido my train kept delayed due to the heavy snow storm. One of the uncle staff there despite unable to speak English (and my Jap was poor too lol) but tried his best to point me to take another train (which is an express train going to another further destination but halfway will stopby where I wanted to go).

Fellow Malaysians, it is a chance to reflect as a member of the society you live in.

KL is indeed a trash capital city and you know it.

Don’t condemn the tourist before you look at your surroundings.

It’s no better than Bangkok or Jakarta.

Well the Japanese are in a league of their own.

Even European Also cannot lawan

Isn't rider only take from restaurant and go? I thought those orders and utensil info send directly to the restaurant, as got one specific restaurant I ordered always put in cutlery even check no cutlery every time in foodpanda.

You compare S-tier service to F-tier service for what? No shit captain obvious Japan's service industry is in a league of its own.

Yea, it should be same for foodpanda, just foodpanda didn't charge cutlery, and I order other restaurants will not send cutlery if I tick no cutlery, just got that one specific restaurant ignore the no cutlery option, it's quite troublesome for me as I usually avoid using disposable cutlery as possible as I can, if don't use also don't know keep for what, if throw away feel wasted dilemma. laugh.gif

I never say you can’t criticize china. Just saying you should make up your mind. Want to criticize any country, go ahead as long as it’s not based on something that is made up.

So you have switched to okay to criticize?

You ever heard their "China Mandarin"? It's basically like orang KL speaking BM to those with loghat from Kelantan. Chicken and duck talk.

Understand what he wrote lah

He's saying the airport staff was rude because he did not speak their language

Basically, they were rude because he can't speak BM
*
Foreign tourists should register with a tour company.

The tour guide will help resolve all language issues.

Happy trip......

If you don’t know how to speak the country's national language or English, you will likely face some issues with taxi drivers, bus express drivers,Rapid Bus drivers,LRT/MRT staff,KTM Staff, restaurant staff, immigration officers, airline staff, hotel staff, attraction ticketing staff, theme park staff, zoo staff, national park staff and museum staff.

I never changed my mind on criticizing is okay.
You are the one changing your mind.
I’m NOT scrutinizing who you criticize. I’m scrutinizing your stand on criticizing is okay or not. Because you earlier said can not.

So final yes no question. Is it okay to criticize (doesn’t matter which country you want to criticize)?

Im not changing my mind, i start to criticize to trigger people like you and it goes to show when ur logic is used against you, you go into puas mode - i boleh buat, u tak boleh buat.

As for the answer to your so called final answer, u go answer it urself. Nice try but fail bait.

Use what logic against me? Do a summary lah what you wanted to say. You are very confusing.

Let me summarize my point.
I say can criticize (I never say can not criticize any particular country. So can criticize china as well ). You say can not criticize.
Then you criticize china. Then i say why you say can not criticize now you criticize? I’m scrutinizing your stance. Not who you criticize. Then i say go ahead if want to criticize china. Then i ask is it your stand now is okay criticize?
But you say is a bait.

My answer is yes. Can criticize. But you can’t answer a simple question. Don’t dare to answer you say is a bait.
How is it a bait?

U playing ignorant now?
Ok i play along with u and dunno wat u have been talking about all tis time also.

Kecian u took ur own bait.
So by your own accord it is ok to criticize any country regardless of the circumstances or substantiating evidence.

See how vague your so called final question was? Lol!

See post 217. I said
“Yes. It is okay. As long as what you posted is true.”
All along i said it is okay to criticize if the criticism is true.

If you think it is vague. No problem. Let me rephrase it.
Is it okay to criticize any country if it is based on facts?
Or you can come up with your own question.

Mainland Chinese that can travel usually quite rich
And they flex it during travel, hence obnoxious and rude
BUT they think others doesn't have money and dignity too is it?
Then after holiday go back to work no more king mode become slave mode

Of course there will be outliers like rich & poor and good mannered, but so far majority of them are like that

Instead of looking at why the China tourist make the comments, some people criticize them

Did you read what he commented? Are you saying what he commented is not the truth? Sims might be exaggerated but most of his point was spot on.

one of the point is kinda true indeed...witnessed it while on a flight back from China on MAS.

A China lady was asking a steward in Mandarin for something and instead of telling her he don't understand Chinese & get another steward or stewardess to help, he kept asking her to speak in English. Then the passengers beside her sort of tried to help
*
your point is so stupid. the steward did the right thing to ask her to speak in English the universal language.
