No. You cannot use. Need international permit. Same as we Europeans cannot use our license in Malaysia. We also need a permit.

That is not true. It depends on country

What do u mean can't survive even 5 min? blink.gif

look at the way our drivers are driving on a daily basis
even the most basic thing also we have trouble already

usage of signal, playing with phone while driving, trouble staying within own lane, difficulty driving within the speed limit, stopping for pedestrian crossing or zebra line, stopping before the white line, obeying the traffic light....u name it, we have trouble even doing these basic stuff
so how does these drivers able to survive even 5 mins overseas? laugh.gif

even the zebra line crossing alone we already cannot obey but it's done strictly overseas

just this morning, i already saw somebody being pulled over for using the bus lane rclxub.gif

Some countries need IDP some don't.
During the car rental pickup they won't ask to see IDP, but if police stop you then they might ask for one if they country requires it.

So to be safe, spend the RM150 and get IDP for a peace of mind.

English speaking country can since our license now got english translation.
That was the reason previous government did that.

IDP doesn't replace your license. It is just a translation.
You still need your original license. Not e-card.

In order to drive in Austria with a non EU/EEA driving license, an international drivers permit (IDP) is required.

better get international driving license at JPJ

and even if people say can, it's never about the license...it's about your skill
please don't bring your malaysian driving skill to EU, you won't survive 5 mins there

I've driven in Iceland, UK, Czech and Austria with only JPJ issued license as recent as 2022. No issue with car rental, cops in Iceland have pulled me over for random checks at 3AM, and told me everything is in order and wished me a safe holiday.

I drove in Korea and its quite hard to adapt to the road, especially doing 90 degree turn lol. Dunno why our driving standard set to such way when most developed countries are all left hand drive.

But still, best moment in my life.

when driving overseas....2 lane exit to 2 lane really means that
here....right lane will turn and suddenly he will be half or full car on the left lane after the turn
drivers here just cannot turn from the right lane and then exit perfectly on the right lane

and these people are only driving an axia/viva/myvi only....overseas are doing that using something like a C class size car minimum

European country that I driven before
Germany No
Italy No
Austria No
Swiss No
Liechtenstein No
Turkiye No

From what I learnt if your driving license didn't not have English translation (like our old license) or the country you gonna visit use non English driving license (ie Kanji character like Japan or SK) u will need IDP.

most places especially first world countries post-covid accept digital versions. I don't imagine it being a problem. Just say that MY no longer issues physical licenses as of 2024.

Rather than worry about IDP better if u study different toll system and driving rules of each country if u plan to drive cross border.

Some require vignette some use toll system like Msia some no toll at all..

Pre 2020 the use of dashcam were heavily regulated in country like Swiss & Austria due to their over emphasize on privacy law, but now I heard they relaxed it a bit.

This. Also in europe zebra crossing isn't for decoration. Even turning into roads, pedestrians have priority (even when vehicles having the green light shown)

Not sure about SG in recent years. Driven there once in 2018, wouldn't do it again.

Thailand's cops are notoriously corrupt, wouldn't dare either haha.

But yes, skimp on the 150 if you want to, in all likelihood you'll never need it. Think of it as an insurance.
