Videogame billionaire Gaben to make Jho Low's superyacht into his floating mobile gaming room
PETALING JAYA: Videogame billionaire and founder of Valve, Gabe Newell, is now the proud owner of the Tranquility superyacht.
The US$250mil (RM1.09bil) luxury vessel, formerly owned by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho - better known as Jho Low, is set to be major remodelling.
According to Luxurylaunches, Newell, also known by his nickname Gaben, is set to refit the superyacht, which was at the centre of the 1MDB scandal, for seamless connectivity to have uninterrupted gaming experiences even in the remotest corners of the earth.
"The 2014 ship is heading to the Oceanco facility for an extensive refit after cruising the world for a decade.
"This transformative refit, as the shipyard calls it, will equip the boat with a wide range of enhancements that will make it feasible for the tech tycoon to enjoy a seamless online gaming experience even while vacationing in the Earth’s most remote corners, said the report in May.
It added that even the interior would undergo an upgrade while the stern would be extended to create more outdoor living areas, and her exterior would be fully repainted.
The 91.5-meter Tranquility, originally named Equanimity, was owned by Malaysian fugitive Jho Low using funds linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MBD) scandal.
It was sold in April 2019 to Genting Group and renamed Tranquility.
Gaben reportedly bought Tranquility in September 2023.
Gaben, reported to be worth US$6.89bil is known for his love of mega yachts and will also soon be the owner of the second largest yacht in the world - Project Y722 - touted as Oceanco’s third largest build to date, behind only Jeff Bezos’s US$500mil Koru, expected to cost no less than US$350-400mil.
