Can TS or some1 maybe pin/list useful apps such as temp checker for the ssd and any other useful apps mentioned here?

Saw a few useful apps suggested but having a hard time when trying to find it back. Maybe can pin it in 1st page for ease of access/search

If you guys see deals on Mac Apps, please do share. There's some I'm waiting for like "Raw Power" (people say this is like old Aperture app), it was on sale during black friday, but I didn't have a Mac to purchase it then.

Just tested the new 5 Gigabit ethernet adapter I got but on my windows machine. Link: https://www.lazada.com.my/products/i4258248...4071007294.html

I'll post more pictures tomorrow on the adapter, for now here's just a simple test i did on my windows machine, and the system will detect the adapter (for mac there is some installation according to the booklet given).

why 1gbit ethernet slower? Shouldn't be that slow? I get 760mbit/s over my 800mbps internet on 1gbe LAN, mac mini, PC or even usb 1gbit adapter.
*
it's simple test, my set up not directly link to router, i have long cables running through the house. the bottleneck is definitely there in the cable or usb-c port. My point here more to show for those that didn't upgrade to 10 Gibabit ethernet on Mac Mini M4, you can consider 2.5GbE or 5GbE adapters.

The 5GbE adapter I bought only cost me rm61 on 12.12.

your backbone network is 10GB??? if your router/switch only 1GB, then it is pointless
my switch & router is 2.5GB, CAT7 cabling & all my machine running 2.5GB NIC except mac mini which is 1GB
*
I know, just sharing it out for those undecided to upgrade to 10 Gigabit ethernet or not.

Even the baseline Mac Mini M4 is already quite future proof thanks to the availability of these 2.5GbE and 5GbE adapters (these are still in the cheap range).

It's once you try to find a 10GbE adapter that you realise Apple's price is actually cheaper than whatever 10GbE adapter is available out there now.

Hold it 1st. I saw someone complaint after using this dock the WIFI drop alot. Maybe due to material too thick hence block the wifi signal. If you use cable then just go for it.
*
yes, if i recall the wifi card/antenna is at the base bottom, ideally you want that part pointed to the router or facing upwards.

A pouch that came with an old Jabra headphone fits the Mac Mini M4 perfectly, I just put it in and can chuck it anywhere including bag or to keep it stored somewhere with protection.

Gonna try this heatsink and see how much improvement. It was running  around 46-50c by its own and I'm not really comfortable with that temp.

don't know why fan still 1000RPM only. Any way to set the fan curve?
*
That's the problem with Mac mini and MacBook, I saw few reviews and the fan doesn't really kick in until you start to throttle and do work for long time.

I bought before from shopee.
If the case can help cooling, might be interested to get it.

$159.99 wor, that's RM720.91, i rather top up and get a second mac min m4 using education store haha

also, putting a case on the m4 makes it less portable, its really useful the curent size, can use it at desktop, then can plug to TV, doesn't take up much space

Anyone can recommend a power cable for the mac mini?  where to buy one? Just normal power cable (it looks very similar to the power cable of my tv at home)?

Want to buy 1 extra one at office then I dun need to bring the original power cable with the mac when I bring it with me to office and back home daily.

Yes, for the cable, i just cabut my Samsung TV power cord and tried it with my mac mini, no issue at all.  So i just order 1 from Shopee.
*
I know this 2-pin cable is universal cable but for some reason I wouldn't want to use any cable unless it's by Apple or has the Apple certified badge like MFi

Care to share what "some reason" you have in mind or from your past experience?  hmm.gif

Fo me, the MFi thingy era is already past.  Now moving into era of USB-C, with the EU pressing hard on universal standard, dun think it is relevant now.  I can now use a generic (Ugreen) USB-C hub for my Samsung phone, my ipad mini 7 and my mac mini, all works flawlessly.  The thunderbolt 4 USB enclosure i used on mac mini is also universal specs, made by Ugreen.

QUOTE(yvliew @ Dec 23 2024, 02:42 PM)
I think it's really standard universal plug thing.. there's nothing to it. No board inside, no microchip inside.. You can also buy the cable with fuse in the plug if you want to feel more safe.
*
In the past I've had my electronics short circuit because wrong cable or charger, so that's why I'm wary.

I've also had bad experience buying low brand kitchen appliances short circuiting the house fuse.

I'm pretty sure it's okay if you go with branded cables.

But for me to be on the safe side I prefer if Apple themselves sold the cable.

I have not used Mac a long time now, and one thing I remember hating about it was the file management. I never knew where I was. But this help me, and I think it can help those new to Mac.

The two links show two different method, personally I have both turned on

Does anyone here know or keep track?

OK this is driving me mad. I am using my Mac Mini M4 with a M7 Samsung 4K monitor. The very first C-C cable that i use to connect them together works perfectly but I felt it was a bit short at 0.5 meters. BTW this is the description of this cable on the shopee page that I bought it from - USB C to USB C Cable 100W USB 3.2 Type C Gen2 20Gbps Data Transfer Cable PD Fast Charging 4K Video Monitor Thunderbolt 3.

Since it was a bit too short I decided to buy a longer cable. This are the specs -  20Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C to Type C Cable PD 100W Video 8K@60Hz. However when I try to connect it, there is no signal. So my conclusion is that it is not comaptible.

I bought a 3rd cable - USB4 Cable with 240W Fast Charging 1m 8K Monitor 40Gbps Compatible with USB 4 Thunderbolt 4 Type C. It does not work! No signal!

What specs should I be looking for in the cable? Is it really so difficult to find a compatible cable?? Please help.
*
First of all, are you using the back 3 ports? The front 2 ports won't work as it cannot display out. So make sure on that first.

Also on your monitor, make sure you plug it in the right port, some ports just don't allow display out. USB-C might look the same but they all have different specs.

those americans and some countries are trembling over Trump's tariffs which will increase prices on goods. A lot on reddit sub like mac/pcgaming/pcmasterrace are all trying to get their hardware now rather than next year because of this. It will impact places like Canada and Mexico but I think it will also affect globally as it's also targeting China.
*
Thank you for the info, I didn't even consider that, very good to know.

Thinking get a second unit. Not that I need, just don't want to have to pay more later on.

For now, rather then going further down into the rabbit hole, I will just settle on the HDMI to HDMI route.
*
Sometimes you also need to go in setting and choose the correct "display source", I see your monitor has 3 ports that allow display.

You might need to go in setting and toggle between HDMI1, HDMI2 or USBC
