It never occurred to me you would get hyperthermia climbing mount Kinabalu. I climbed it before my worry was just falling down the cliff.

My only regret climbing the mountain was I had to leave the group - the guide advised me to go first and leave the group since the group was too lembik and slow, so I needed to go first to reserve the food etc. So when I reached summit, I was worried sick about the group members since they took long time to reach (have they fall? Injured? Died?). No way for me to enjoy the experience.

Did this climb before the quake years ago.

Wouldn't do it again.
Definitely wouldn't do it in my 50s but I understand why many would

RIP, and condolences to the family.

I have climbed Mt Kinabalu in my 20s, 30s however have no chance during the time in my 40's, but now near pension age i will not do that again. Even in my younger days and fit, the climb is tough.

just wondering, no one got those emergency foil blankets or hand warmers or even warm water? It can warm the body's core temp

Not well prepared I think, if well prepared or experienced hiker, would have either a very good fleece jacket and waterproof shell jacket plus a Mylar exposure blanket.
Those Mylar foil blankets is damned warm and very cheap at Decathlon.
I used this to keep warm cycling downhill in the rain of Cameron highlands.

40 can la. Ayam 30 ish just did Kinabalu. Not difficult hike (walk only). Not say a brisk la. But do make sure for the summit attack, wear good windbreakers (heat tech) whatever keeps u warm, and good thermal and waterproof gloves. U need to be overdress. And pray for clear weather.
