A lot of my old fag friends think their frequent hikes at ttdi or broga makes them fully readuly for the mt kinabalu climb. There are plenty of other risks involved. RIP to her.

Agree. I have a few old fag Sabahan friends who have been up at the peak a few times. They shld be able to do it still but choose to yamseng rather than torture themselves again.

Unker dun get your point. Everything also got risk. Got other risk involved means better dun go?? If oldfag friend is hiking weekly that already makes them more prepared than many.

The Kinabalu trail is difficult, but it very well maintained and many local sabahans go weekly basis. Non locals signing up must have a local guide accompany to go up and down with them.

tsk, blind confidence at its best

It's not just the physical demands, but the ratified air will affect you. If your reserves are borderline, the low oxygen can dangerously affect you.

Saw someone think that can climb mount kinbalu is just another day of hiking

Let me remind you a old random internet wisdom : just because you can do it doesnt mean u should do it

Even my sister say need adequate preparation like at least regular hike 3-5 years before going to this mountain .
*
dont need that long. but need to be good bmi and does exercise regularly ok dy. more than half the path is stair case. after stair case will have some ropes. but the mount is rocky but not slippery. u do need a good or two good windbreaker for the peak... and gloves...

guide always carry emergency foil blanket
but there are many factors...since 1 guide can manage 5 people, he might far from the ones that needed it
and at that height, it might not so much effect anymore...it's still 2KM to laban rata

so advice is always be overprepared...bring winter jacket, don't act tough
somemore if this happens yesterday, it has been raining continuously for the whole day

had the climb up mount k last month, it was very tough for me even though i had done hiking training for months beforehand. i had all the symptoms of altitude sickness when im up there- constant headaches, lack of breath until need to breath using mouth only even when im resting on the bed in labanrata. there is no breathing using nose up there for me. i cant use the altitude sickness medicine acetazolamide as it clashes with my other medicine.

the only consolation when im up in labanrata was knowing im using the highest toilet when i was beraking up there.

i wouldnt go there again and i limit myself to 2500m from then onwards for any future places i go, be it hiking or leisure.

I follow a lot of climbing channels on youtube, go Everest base camp, climb this mountain and that mountain, scuba diving and exploring caves, story of people dying on this mountain, that mountain and what happened....

most of the time are few mistakes all lump in together make one big issue and people die.
dehydration, explosed to severe weather, lost, etc... cannot always depend on the guide, if one group of friends/family climb, among the group should have some basic survival stuffs. If solo, pack them yourself.
