It is unclear whether the directive will affect projects which have secured approvals for the aforementioned processes. The Edge has reached out to a DBKL spokesperson, who declined to elaborate on the letter.
On Monday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa was quoted as saying that DBKL has been directed to collaborate closely with geologists and infrastructure experts to evaluate and mitigate the risk of future sinkholes.
A staff member of the Palace Hotel in Jalan Masjid India, who wanted to be known only as Jamal, told ST he was not worried about falling into any sinkholes on the road.
However, the same could not be said of guests, with the hotel seeing 20 per cent of bookings cancelled since the accident happened.
“It’s not the first time this has happened. There was a sinkhole a few months ago, there was another one last month and then the sinkhole that took the tourist and now this one. I am just cautious when I walk around, and I avoid pavements that are sunken,” said Mr Jamal.

Looks like the whole masjid India area might be unsafe. Not sure how many holes are there now.
My thoughts exactly. If really do study now, soooo many bisnes in the area will fold. For sure therewill be protests and counter-protests. And then it will have become a political decisions already.
DBKL qualified or not? There is a big difference between geotechnical study and geological assessment.
Former is to design foundation/piling, which I am sure is already being done. Unless they saying buildings have been designed without any geotechnical surveys, then heads need to roll.
Latter is to see if any anomalies and ground water issues underneath and nearby. This is what identifies risks like the one we just had.

Usually geotechnical report will include geological study, in which geotechnical engineer will appoint geologist to study the geology and geotechnical engineer will propose design based on the geological info.

Ok thanks, if that is how it is done here, then great. Then why is DBKL making it sound like a new requirement? Maybe not everyone includes the geological study part in the report, I suppose. They need to be very specific on what they want, or else same old, same old..

This is not practice for most of the projects where there is no major geotechnical works or concern like a tall slope, deep excavation etc. Normal projects at the moment normally don't require geotechnical report when they apply for planning permission/approval.

lets just hope deep foundations building like TRX, merdeka 118 and klcc all got
but anyway I suspect this area related to KL river of life project which has been delayed ten years already. very old area, and swift river bank nearby.

tbh for highrises structure, less worry, because the foundations are usually well-designed. critical one should be roads and walkways where there are no foundations.

High rise all pump pile until very deep inside and bottom all dig out and poured huge chunk of concrete in as base and also no water leak down.. no issue one la ..
Those pavement is the issue, especially those near longkang, water pipe, sewer pipe line
Almost all sink hole appear near or on sewer line..
Kuchai lama as example.. the one at nsk junction is.above manhole Kuchai entrepreneur park road also above manhole..

building collapse soon next? Sohem KL urban planning is like shit, buildings spawn here spawn there, no regulation at all, literally right beside main road build a fking condo out of no where.
