Recently Maxis free upgrade my plan to 5G but I didn't receive any 5G signal at all. Tech support said my Poco X3 GT not supported by DNB huhu. Sad thing is last year in Thailand I could use 5G over there. Cukur I didn't pay to upgrade my plan to 5G.

Why is my Hotlink Postpaid 40 plan being upgraded to Hotlink Postpaid 45?
We strive to consistently bring better value to our customers; hence all our Hotlink Postpaid 40 customers will be upgraded to Hotlink Postpaid 45. With this change, you will enjoy an addition of 30GB of 5G quota monthly with the same commitment of RM40/month. The upgrading exercise commence on 29 July and expected to complete by 4 August 2024.

Will there be any additional charge upon upgrade of my Hotlink Postpaid 40 to Hotlink Postpaid 45 rate plan?
No, you will enjoy the upgrade without any additional cost. Your monthly commitment fee will remain at RM40/month.

got 5g also no use la
u browse lowyat se7en also limit the bandwidth anyway, not like u can take advantage of the high speed internet also
the only time 5g is useful is when u need to download tinder when ur gf goes to the toilet and do ur daily swipe and uninstall the app before she comes back from the loo
streaming 4k also just need 25mbps nia, not even 100, dont kid urself with the useability
inb4 if we dont use it then there wont be any advancement in telco data zzzzz its a useless perk to have unless you know how to use it
but it is nice to see my genshin impact update at 150MB/s for 5 secs and play the game instead of waiting 10 mins like a caveman

Malaysia 5G seems sometimes totally no download at all, then works fine.

Have to wait or switch to 4G

Were you having that issue or something else?

I don't care about the speed. 4G fast enough for me. But I was hoping to get better connectivity. Some places really bad signal.

Oh well...

It is annoying when I'm done eating and about to pay at the counter, 5G fullbar but nothing actually loads. Then have to switch to 4G it works.

it lacks the support of n28 anchor band.
hopefully when 2nd 5G network rollout, telco will roll out real SA 5G, which dint require anchor band.

5G in SG quite fast.

But honestly rarely need that much speed, except emergency need download big files using hotspot.

Else go home use fiber download.

I rather wait until the network becomes better. Being an early adopter sucks. I didn't buy this phone for 5G, I bought it for the flagship processor. Maybe in the future when I finally upgrade, the 5G modems consume less energy.

Hows the coverage. Even With 4g any place with tall buildings like in down town kl is enough to result in many dead zones. Can’t imagine how much worse with 5g.

Very good, only time bad is when in certain basements or some multilevel underground parking with no internal signal boosters, maybe old buildings.

But this is SG, easy to cover entire mainland, even some smaller islands.

Singtel started implementation long ago, all the issues already settled.

5G is a waste of battery.. only if you are in a packed area like on the MRT then its worth it... and only if you really need the speed eg: watching YT or Downloading then only your phone will switch to 5G and also Malaysia coverage like shit (EVEN IN BUKIT BINTANG AND DAMANSARA). Speed also like shit.. Only occasionally can get 200Mbps.. other time same speed as LTE.

Just save your battery and use LTE.. Sorry to those if got scammed by Maxis biggrin.gif

Phone: S24 Ultra
Provider: Maxis
Area: KL/ KV

Note: I'm on 128 Plan which also includes 5G.. Maxis offered to upgrade to the 5G for an extra RM10 (RM139).. but I questioned the CS and they stopped calling me worst thing is CS also cant answer ended up BS..

My question.. If 128 can use 5G why would I want to pay extra RM10? My data per month also cannot reach 60% usage and why pay extra RM10 when gov announces there is no extra charge to use 5G...

Note RM 10X 12 Months = RM 120, RM 120 X 2 Years (Contract) = RM 240.. After that you cant go back to 128 plan.

What I wanna do with 1.2gb per second? My priority is better coverage, too many places cannot get signal, sometimes 4 bars or full bars oso cannot connect. But I see many people in this thread say 5G signal is also bad.

5g supported device means those devices must contain b28 LTE band alongside n78 AS WELL AS SIRIM certified

As I remember Xperia 1/5 ii-iii was never officially certified by SIRIM for 5g in Malaysia

Yes someone else mentioned the LTE anchor band. So that means in Thailand, the LTE anchor band is not required?

I'm still not buying into the 5G hype. I can wait.

Yes. Thailand already adopted SA (standalone) network while we still stuck with NSA (non-standalone) due to DiuNiaBu

This seems to explain the complains in this thread. If you can't get good 4G signal, you can't get 5G.

Seems like no point I upgrade my phone. It won't fix the dead spots problem. Any spot that cannot get 4G won't get 5G either.

This is not entirely correct tho. Currently 4g implemented by telcos still separate from DiuNiaBu NSA implementation because you just need 700mhz 4g anchor band as well as n78 for 5g. While 4g bands are currently separated from 5g because telcos are not allowed DSS to share 4g and 5g in existing licensed spectrum

Nonetheless to be able to make and receive calls, 4g coverage is still the must

Existing 4g spectrum (B1, B3, B8, B7, B38, B40 etc) are which currently independent awarded to celcom/Digi maxis umobile yes unifi, these are strictly 4g band for now in Malaysia (some may have B8 shared with GSM)

But with DSS means that such spectrum can share with their respective 5g bands (substitute b with n in prefix eg N1, N3, N7, N38, N40) so that a 5g phone can connect with 5g mode of existing 4g bands to save on antenna costs and improve signal reception

If Malaysia also allow such implement I believe more 5g phones can be supported without relying on b28 which may be missing in some earlier China imported model like X3 gt, some Xiaomi china models pre-2024 etc

Well haha I was researching and see someone said 5g not activated in software due to SIRIM not certified for 5g. Or maybe just merely an excuse. I think is due to software locked lo.
Maybe need research into enabling 5g/volte by modification of software mbn/carrier policy
