do you have VR lens ? it will be great help if u do.
if no, try bring a monopod, if u dun have, bring an umbrella, u can use it like a monopod. It helps stabilize ur hands. This post has been edited by mindkiller6610: Mar 23 2008, 07:46 PM |

QUOTE(BlueSilver @ Mar 23 2008, 10:50 PM) i hope i can post some pictures of the concert as i will be sitting rather far away. Anyways, i was reading the manual and found out that exposure actually brightens a photograph. So i set it to the highest. Is that a good practice? u mean the exposure compensation ?that is useful when u are depending the camera to meter the environment , like u were in aperture or shutter priority mode. Usually, in low light / light challenge areas, i switch manual mode and tried to get best exposure time (balancing between shutter speed and aperture, and of coz ISO). take a few shots, if the picture is blur, ask yourself, why is it blur ? becoz of hand-shake ? subject's motions? or OOF ? depends on that, u adjust ur next exposure slightly.. after few shots, i bet u can get a good exposure setting. QUOTE(Darkcursed @ Mar 27 2008, 11:50 PM) few month ago,my uncle gave me this lenses. can the d40 meter with the lens ?it was his old days with Film type SLR camera before it get stolen,he manage to find this when doing spring cleaning at his house.haha. ![]() ![]() now,he really left me a thousand question,it fits in my D40,i didnt even know a thing bout this lense man. forget bout autofocus, the aperture u have to set your own on the lense, range was set at a distance. didnt even know how to use this lense, every single description fades already,go google it result was auction stuff. any pro can tell me what is this lense? please dont tell me this belongs to sigma's museum. Added on March 28, 2008, 12:05 am for the white balance,my advice is you try to use a D40 to shoot a target but with the different setting. see the different yourself. they all come with a same point,to make your pictures characteristic looks more natural.just like what a human eyes see. just set the aperture on the lens, turn the zoom ring to zoom in zoom out, turn the focus ring to focus, then click the shutter to shoot. |

QUOTE(ebernie @ Mar 28 2008, 01:48 AM) The white balance mode is there for compensating the color of the light to get the correct color shades. Why is it called white balance then? Coz they use white as a benchmark. Example - when you're in a room with fluorescent light, the light is actually 'cool' or slightly blue. If you choose the fluorescent light WB in your D40, it will automatically try to compensate by adjusting the image to be slightly yellow, so that it neutralizes the blueish light. End result is your white will be white instead of blue-ish white. 1.5.As for the angle thing - our sensors are cropped (smaller) than a full frame sensor. A full frame sensor simply means the sensor size is the same as a 35mm film. The effect of having a crop sensor is you have to take the crop factor into account when looking at lenses. D40 has a crop factor of 1.6 so if you have a 18-55mm lens, the effect is that you're actually getting the equivalent of a 18x1.6-55x1.6mm focal length on a full-frame or film camera. I'm no sifu, just sharing what I know. nikon is 1.5 1.6 is canon. |

3 AF points is abit hard when trying to capture flying birds..
if ur DSLR has more AF points, u can set it to automatic, and when the bird fly thru all the AF points in ur viewfinder, if the DSLR is intelligent enough..the AF sensor could track the flying bird.. but i think this DSLR wont be cheap..haha |

QUOTE(ellist @ Mar 30 2008, 07:07 PM) yeah thts a minus without bracketing..Can i take a raw format photo and adjust the exposure to different setting later? or any other method? sure, why not ??even it is without exposure bracketing, just do it urself loh, take one proper expose, turn the dial, underexposed, turn the dial again, overexposed.. the only problem is subject moving.. so use raw better. |

QUOTE(BlueSilver @ Apr 2 2008, 02:19 PM) No, you can't snap pics inside the KLCC shopping mall. There are many boards on there written with this. Area outside of the KLCC should be ok, it is a popular spot for photography.. Each shopping malls has different rules.. I heard you cant snap pics inside Pavillion too..But many ppl just did it.. conclusion, just dun get scolded.. photography should be fun in the first place..
