I already posted a brief comparison of D80 with D40/40x in D80 thread, can I post it in here again!
I hope you all dun mind ya!

D40/40x = smaller body (suitable for smaller hand user), 148 g lighter than D80, only can autofocus with Nikkor AF-S lenses and Sigma HSM lenses (limited lenses to choose from if you only want AF and usually more superior and expensive lenses due to built-in focus motor in lenses), suitable for hobbyist that's not keen into having a lot of lenses to change or to choose from.
Below is the list of most used lenses compatible with D40
Wide-angle lenses = AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm, Sigma 10-20mm HSM
Macro lenses = AF-S Nikkor 105mm VR, Sigma 150mm HSM
Normal range fast lenses (f/2.8) = AF-S Nikkor 17-55mm, Sigma 18-50mm HSM
Prime lenses = Sigma 30mm f/1.4 HSM
Most preferred lenses to bundle with D40 = Nikkor 18-200mm VR, Sigma 18-200mm OS, Nikkor 18-55mm + 55-200mm VR
p/s: D40/40x also can use other non AF-S or HSM lenses, but cannot autofocus, you'll have to manually tweak the focus ring to focus!
D40/40x user = entry level body but bundle with mostly superior lenses!

D80 = bigger body, heavier, have flash commander mode, have two mode dials, no restriction on lenses (this is the cause of never-ending buying list ), suitable for hobbyist that can have unlimited lenses for upgrade.
Below is the list of most discussed or most used lenses for D80:
Wide-angle lenses = Nikkor 12-24, Sigma 10-20, Tokina 12-24
Macro lenses = Nikkor 60mm, 105mm VR, Sigma 70mm, 105mm, 150mm, Tamron 90mm, 180mm, Tokina 100mm
Normal range fast lenses (f/2.8) = Nikkor 17-55mm, Sigma 18-50mm, Tamron 17-50mm, Tokina 16-50mm
Prime lenses = Nikkor 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.8 & f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8 & f/1.4, Sigma 30mm f/1.4

Yeah, even though I'm in KK here, but I oftenly heard positive feedbacks of YL Camera and J-One these two camera shops. Maybe you can try surveying there.

Have your money ready and go bargain at the shop. Once you get your budget price or cheaper, just get it without adding anything in, as camera are pretty much stick to the market's price while the price for accessories can be varies a whole lot! Those shops usually chop you off at these! Can you imagine that I can get a Keep 62mm UV filter at RM20 while its retail price is at RM88!

To be truthful, I think the Nikon 90th Anniversary tripod really is a shame to Nikon itself! Such 'lau ya' tripod to be labeled as 90th Anniversary one, sigh.....

I'm not into Benro, Gizto or Manfrotto yet, I'm very satisfied myself with a cheap Manfrotto imitation tripod, Victory!

Hahaha, luckily all shops here din sell any expensive tripod like Manfrotto or Benro, just got those cheap cheap one like Victory and Sakure only!

Go check the price of your wanting to buy list at ShaShinKi.com, its a very good site for price references! Dun worry, all VR lenses can be used on D40! Refer to the first page of this thread to be sure on which lenses can AF on D40!
