waaaaa Sigma 30mm f/1.4 HSM expensive!haiz, need wait for few month salary again for this lense
anything below 1k de or not?
*
For below RM1k lens and can AF with D40, I think the widest you can go is 18mm which is your kit lens. But if you dun mind an used unit of Sigma 30mm f/1.4 HSM, you can try this below. Saw it at Free Trade Zone. icon_rolleyes.gif

How about D70 like me, only thread for D80 and D40 exist here. Can i join my younger dark siblings?

How much the RSP for 14-200 f/2.8? Is the lens come with VR?
*
There is D40/D40x, D80, D200, and D300 thread here, but not D70/D70s, guess someone missed it out! laugh.gif

He's refering to the trio lah, 14-24mm f/2.8 + 24-70mm f/2.8 + 70-200mm f/2.8 = 14-200 f/2.8 (RM18k only)! thumbup.gif

*
Yeah, it can, Sigma 18-200mm OS have HSM for Nikon only but not for Canon. laugh.gif

Most of the time I just use the center AF point and then AF lock it and recompose the frame, so I think more or less AF points dun really matters to me. laugh.gif

Do u guys know any prime lens that is less than rm400? +AF

wanna use it for portrait shots. Tried my frens 50mm f/1.8, the colors were really sharp.

Also wanna ask, smaller f-value (big aperture) can get more DOF?
tongue.gif Me still noob.
*
No prime lens with AF-S or HSM at price less than RM400!
Check the first page of this thread for prime lenses compatible with D40/D40x. icon_rolleyes.gif

Small f-value (big aperture) = less DOF = less things in focus
Big f-value (small aperture) = more DOF = more things in focus

QUOTE(xandman @ Dec 28 2007, 12:33 PM)
there are some prime lens that can AF with d40x...
but less than 400? r u kidding?
no such thing....=)

the cheapest nikkor prime would be the 105 VR...at 2.6k...
u wouldnt want to know the other nikkor primes...

but for third party...i m not so sure...i think sigma has the 30mm f1.4...

Added on December 28, 2007, 12:34 pmone more thing...
if u r into portrait...i'd say the 105 VR is good...=)
VERY good indeed!
*
Yup, Nikkor 105 VR is a very good lens for both potrait and macro and xandman is very happy with combination of his D40+Nikkor 105VR!
Cheaper option for prime lens is Sigma 30mm f/1.4 which cost about RM1.5k, wide-angle prime lens for landscape, group photo and also full body or probably half-body potrait shooting.
If budget constraint, just get the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8, you'll get more than its worth; big aperture, cheap prime lens which sharper compared to zoom lens and also can train your eye in manual focusing! laugh.gif
Just my 2cents! icon_rolleyes.gif

possible to get under 500-1k for 2nd hand?
racun ady tongue.gif
*
If you already have 18-55mm kit lens, why still consider 18-70mm which overlap the range? Get the 55-200mmVR instead if you want more tele. Just my 2cents! icon_rolleyes.gif

2nd hand 70-200 for under 500-1k? I think xandman is refering to the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR and a 2nd hand unit will cost about 5k. sweat.gif

what difference with aperture? o.0
*
The difference is with bigger aperture, you'll get shallower DOF, background is blur out which can make your subject stand out from the rest easily without using zooming much, and you can use faster shutter speed in low-light condition without the help of flash light. icon_rolleyes.gif

ya, reading your suggestion shocking.gif i ended up go buy 1 cry.gif overall this lens is ok, feel plastic a bit , but the feeling can zoooom is great whistling.gif

so now i got kit lens + this 55-200 VR, if i wan to take potrait , which 1 gip me the best result, pls advice. sifu
*
I'm no sifu, but I'll just share my opinions, both can be use for potrait shots, 18-55mm is good for full body+background potrait and hlaf-body potrait also can. 55-200mm is good for half-body and head potrait, and the more you zoom in, the easier you can make your subject stand out and blur the background. Just my 2cents! icon_rolleyes.gif
