Look for WiFi adapter with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth. Easier like that. Tenda and Ugreen good brands too

Buy a reputable brand to avoid headache.
Wifi 6 should be a minimum, and no compact dongle like the wireless mouse. It hurts the performance so much compared to normal wifi adapter.

Firstly, have the expectation that despite them saying 150/300/650/1200/1800/3000Mbps, you will NOT get those speeds

its a bit of rounding up, and also counting download and upload together, and being in a perfect lab environment with 0 interference

like, a typical N150 adapter will get you real world speeds of about 38Mbps, but hey they are cheap, like less than RM15

for wifi 6, it really should be AX1800 or better
the lower tier ones like AX286/300/900 are not so great, especially the 286/300 ones as they rely on AX 2.4Ghz that not all routers support

of course, the price is higher for those

And, if it is a desktop, please get a PCIe card instead, brand doesn't matter too much as most of the AX3000 ones out there use the Intel AX200 chip (well, the big brands like tplink/asus/dlink/tenda/totolink), it is a very solid choice
~RM100 for one

dont trust anything you see on the package, 650mbps is lab tested and in controlled environment, your house got all kinds of radiowaves that will slowdown your wifi

Tiny? = low performance
USB? interference from USB3

add both 2 together you get high latency and tortoise internet speed, trust me

You also need a 2x2 160MHz router to get that speed.

The best is use another router setup as wifi bridge, your router will act as your wifi adapter but with lower latency and better bandwidth, I have been using my ac68u for many years no wifi adapter come close to the performance, average 500mbps from 1300mbps 802.11ac bandwidth

wifi bandwidth is not speed.

99% user dont know.

Signal strenght = actual speed
Size does mattered

2.4ghz can almost out perform 5ghz wifi in most case
(Less ideal case)

This is very true. However, if you have signal strength but no bandwidth also, then you will have no speed smile.gif

As many article said that the 2.4GHz has better wall (brick especially) penetration than the 5GHz, I found that in my house both are equally as fast. In my two-storey house, the min speed I get anywhere in house even with door closed is 200Mbps. I was surprised because I thought I would need a mesh setup but instead I just need one WiFi router to cover the whole house. laugh.gif

2.4ghz for long distance yes, for me I'd use my mobile data, 600gb with 5Gnr bandwidth lol, can update 2 hoyoverse game without depleting the quota

2.4Ghz can reach 600Mbps
5Ghz up to 1300Mbps

In most case. 2.4Ghz still provide better overall experience.

Tons of user dont understand how internet work

No matter how fast ur internet, impossoble u are allowed to browse at 500mbps all the times.

Most website dont allowed that, even netflix

Thus, signal quality and router concurrency performance are much more important.

Is like a cbr250 always faster than a ferrari in city traffic.
Top speed is useless

If you plan to move to a new house, I would suggest that during renovation just lay out CAT cable or fiber optic. This is way much better than bridge or anything wireless. Radio signal will reflect off the wall and causes interference to main signal. Use cable/optic to backhaul your other router in mesh configuration instead of wireless because the max speed on remote mesh router is only as fast as the wireless link established.

talk about bandwidth.. more than 2 times tm tech come to my house due wifi speed slow..
One day I woke up and my router showed no WAN connection (connection to TM Unifi). I thought it was due power trip and just wait for others to make complain since I was on my way out to somewhere. When I came back it was still the same. I called TM CS and was told nothing was wrong with network as I told them there was power trip twice the night before. I told him that I believe that there was nothing wrong with my router.

He then said that he will reset the port and if it was still the same, just call him back. After reset, the speed go back to normal. Actually, many days before the incident the speed was slow like 100Mbps or less. I thought it was probably due to congestion especially at night time. Usually I get around 500Mbps or more. It made me think that sometimes the slowdown probably due to port clogged buffer.

My router is consider outdated already. It is Asus GT-AC5300.

I'm also still using my GT-AC5300, and it's performing well. The only issue I've encountered is that the power button occasionally requires a firm push to activate.

I purchased it when it first launched, so it's nearly seven years old now.

I haven't upgraded to Wi-Fi 6 yet, as I'm holding out for the Wi-Fi 7 version of the RT-AC68U or RT-AX86U

Forget about USB adapters, they tend to run hot and somewhat unreliable (I used to have a TP-Link T9UH) icon_idea.gif

If you have a desktop or laptops with swappable WiFi cards you're much better off getting something like an Intel AX210 based PCIe card instead icon_idea.gif

Basically, how far your computer away from the router? If you're lucky, you getting WiFi router and you need atleast a WiFi adapter that support 5Ghz and you be able to get your normal internet speed test running about 700 Mbps. But if you prefer to use it for gaming, you would need to expecting higher latency compare to cable unless you are using WiFi 6 router with WiFi 6 wireless adapter. And ofcoz PCIE-based WiFi 6 adapter is more consistent performance that USB type WiFi adapter.

You meant you pull cable from router downstairs to a LAN socket upstairs, the speed dropped? It cannot be. The speed should be the same as the port downstairs.

Unfortunately there is no.

You need at least AX1800 (1.2Gbps @ 5GHz) to get that speed and I don't see there is WiFi chip that supports AX that also supports Windows 7.

Solutions:
- If you existing router can support 4x4 AC 5GHz, you could hunt for old AC adapter with 4x4 capabilities.
- Dump Windows 7. Get TP-Link TX20E with RM100.
- Get a router that works as a Media Bridge and connect to your machine via network cable. Highest cost, but best speed + works with Windows 7.

Pick your pill hmm.gif

The windows 7 is just additional question since it's useful for dual boot, it's good if support else will just fall back to old usb wifi on windows 7.
Using windows 10

Asking the same question , to get an AX1800 (1.2Gbps @ 5GHz) or above , cheapest is Get TP-Link TX20E RM100 ?
How about TP-LINK Archer TX55E AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 Intel AX210 where it's just rm15 extra ?

What are the actual speed + overhead interference signal around the house possible to get 32–36 MB/s ?

and this didn't sell in Malaysia

AX200 alone is ~RM50 and the remaining cost goes to supporting parts, i.e. the antenna, PCB. AX200 is pretty much done for and AX210 is the later revision that adds 6GHz support & newer Bluetooth standard. The price is just slightly higher. AX210 can yield you 1Gbps+ speed provided you have a decent router.

If you can afford AX200 / AX210, just go ahead. wink.gif

For up to RM 99 I think can get AX200 / AX210 with set. Qualcomm is pricier iinm and mediatek is just crap.
