QUOTE(ifourtos @ Aug 2 2024, 08:01 AM) wifi bandwidth is not speed. 99% user dont know. Signal strenght = actual speed Size does mattered 2.4ghz can almost out perform 5ghz wifi in most case (Less ideal case) This is very true. However, if you have signal strength but no bandwidth also, then you will have no speed As many article said that the 2.4GHz has better wall (brick especially) penetration than the 5GHz, I found that in my house both are equally as fast. In my two-storey house, the min speed I get anywhere in house even with door closed is 200Mbps. I was surprised because I thought I would need a mesh setup but instead I just need one WiFi router to cover the whole house.

QUOTE(armmar @ Aug 2 2024, 03:30 PM) wow nice idea.. wish to plan after move to new house next year myb If you plan to move to a new house, I would suggest that during renovation just lay out CAT cable or fiber optic. This is way much better than bridge or anything wireless. Radio signal will reflect off the wall and causes interference to main signal. Use cable/optic to backhaul your other router in mesh configuration instead of wireless because the max speed on remote mesh router is only as fast as the wireless link established.talk about bandwidth.. more than 2 times tm tech come to my house due wifi speed slow.. One day I woke up and my router showed no WAN connection (connection to TM Unifi). I thought it was due power trip and just wait for others to make complain since I was on my way out to somewhere. When I came back it was still the same. I called TM CS and was told nothing was wrong with network as I told them there was power trip twice the night before. I told him that I believe that there was nothing wrong with my router.
He then said that he will reset the port and if it was still the same, just call him back. After reset, the speed go back to normal. Actually, many days before the incident the speed was slow like 100Mbps or less. I thought it was probably due to congestion especially at night time. Usually I get around 500Mbps or more. It made me think that sometimes the slowdown probably due to port clogged buffer. pergh... which router you use.. My router is consider outdated already. It is Asus GT-AC5300.

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Aug 2 2024, 05:24 PM) I'm also still using my GT-AC5300, and it's performing well. The only issue I've encountered is that the power button occasionally requires a firm push to activate. I purchased it when it first launched, so it's nearly seven years old now. I haven't upgraded to Wi-Fi 6 yet, as I'm holding out for the Wi-Fi 7 version of the RT-AC68U or RT-AX86U Well, unless you have heavy LAN activity, the low speed to broadband would make it under utilized.

QUOTE(armmar @ Sep 23 2024, 06:43 AM) btw plan to setup proper lan to my house soon.. it is speed drop when we make LAN Socket..such example at 2 bedroom at upstairs and standard wifi router at downstair.. does anyone can suggest LAN setup for intermediate terrace house You meant you pull cable from router downstairs to a LAN socket upstairs, the speed dropped? It cannot be. The speed should be the same as the port downstairs.
