Hold her down. Use 2 cotton buds or Q-tips or whatever you call them, lift her ear flap and gently, I repeat, gently stick it down her ear canal to clean it. Your dog most probably has an ear infection. That's why it smells. Usually due to wet ears which are not dried properly after bathing. There are drops to help clear it. Or simply bring her to the vet to see what needs to be done.

Male pup eh? Get ready for a 'marking' spree as he gets older.

Hiya fellow GR lovers,

Am sure you've been faced with this problem before. My dog has TICKS! Not the first time this but would like to know how you combat the blardee arachnids. I've used Frontline but it's performance leaves a lot to be desired. Resorted to picking them pesky ticks off by hands. The GR's fur being long and fuzzy makes it hard to be sure. I'm also using Dino Coal Tar shampoo for my dog but don't like the smell. Plus it probably last about 3 days before he smells like.. erm.. a dog. Hahaha.

i have a golden retriever. Wanted her to give birth so that i can give the babies to my cousin. Anyone here have Labrador or golden (MALE) that can give my Golden some help ... =P

I think you should seriously consider that. Mating your dog just so you can give puppies to your cousins... well... irresponsible. If your cousins get bored with the puppies then how? Who's gonna be taking care of them then? You? Or just pass teh responsibility to another party? SPCA? PAWS? There are already too many unwanted puppies around. Mongrels/mix-breeds mostly cos owners left the gates open or didn't know where their dogs are or just couldn't care less. Don't be like them. Stop encouraging puppy mills. And please don't mate your dog with a lab.

In my very limited experience, it's better to just bath them with Bayticol. Frontline/Spot doesn't really work for my pooches. One bath and you'll see them ticks die.

Anyways.. these are my monsters, both rescued dogs.

My Ah Fook went to the puppy.com training. Good cos the teachers are really dog lovers. Ah Fook graduated as good canine citizen but I'm ashamed to say he will be needing a refresher course soon. My mum says like never go to school before. Hahhahaha

His first training ar? erm... playful lo. He walks beside just fine like the other doggies when the teachers ask us to walk in circles. Switches direction beautifully too. My Ah fook is more like Marley (the Labrador in Marley & Me). The thing about doggies is that you have to continue their training. Ah Fook still does sit/stay/down ok but needs work on come and no. Hahaha. His heel is fine altho he will try to wander off during the first few minutes of his walk. A few pulls and corrections and he good for the entire walk.

My wife's friend just adopted 2 female GRs (cos they're sisters, so the previous owner insisted). rclxms.gif

dezs8818:
The chances of you adopting a GR puppy is near zero. Why not try adopting an older dog? Saves you money cos they're already grown. Hahaha.

icecolddamncold:
IMHO, Thailand doggies are usually better quality. Love their culture where doggies flourish without prejudice unlike here. You can 'import' Thai doggies into Malaysia (either legally or illegally), depending on how you wanna do it. The breeders there should be able to advise you on this matter.

Xai-V-iaX:
Wanna have a GR gathering? Socialising your dogs will do them wonders in the future.

Happy New Year to all fellow GR daddies & mummies.

naoki666: Sounds like your girl girl is allergic to chicken. Get her to a vet fast.

Arizone80: Your puppy is frightened. Imagine being taken away from your mum and siblings, put into an entirely new surrounding. Am sure you'd be making alot fo noise too ya. Then because you complained, you are now relegated to the car porch. That being said, doggies are tougher than you think. Treat him well when you see him in the morning and he'll have forgotten about the night before. They adapt pretty quick too. I wouldn't worry too much about mosquitoes but do get him a dog house if possible. It's always better to sleep 'inside' than out. biggrin.gif

My Ah Fook is in bad shape. Sigh...

1st
His ear got swollen. It's as if a small balloon was inserted into his ear flap and got blown. Haih... took him to the vet. Vet says it's very common. The cause is actually ruptured blood vessels in his ear flap. Maybe caused by excessive scratching, excessive shaking of the head or bitten by other dogs. Vet said have to be operated to relieve the pressure building inside.

Cost: RM450 inclusive of boarding 2 nite + medicine

Moral of the story: Keep your dog's ears clean and infection free.

2nd
The operation was a success with the swelling subsiding and the wound healing(closing). A bit too good as a matter of fact. The operated slit was to allow any excess fluid to drain while the vessel heal. But it closed up too soon and too well, so the ear flap began ballooning up again. So it's back to the vet to be operated again. This is 2 weeks after the 1st operation.

Cost: RM300 inclusive of 1 nite boarding + medicine

Moral of the story: Ask the vet to explain the operation in detail and the rate of recovery else you make your dog suffer again like poor Ah Fook.

3rd
The second operation was also good. Now the ear is ok liao. But now comes another problem. Ah Fook is not castrated/spayed so he has his wet dreams once in a while. So you know la, after those happy thoughts about b****es, there'll be some stains/leftover evidence on his penis. Dogs being dogs will lick their own dicks. Which is fine except the fact that flies apparently also love the dog's love juice. And flies being flies will lay eggs on any source of food they deem fit, which in this case was Ah Fook's penis foreskin. Long story short...fly eggs turned into maggots which burrowed into the foreskin making holes. Got Ah Fook to the vet to be cleaned and maggots removed. Now he's back with a swollen penis. The poor guy is not his usual self nowadays. His appetite isn't good but his mood is worse. I clean his little brudder everyday with a cloth and antiseptic solution bath. The dried urine I wipe off makes the white liquid in the pail become yellowish. He's on his meds and has the clownish e-collar on. I hope he recovers soon.

Cost: RM300 inclusive of some extra meds.

Moral of the story: Always check your dogs from head to tail. I check on him every other 2 days and a thorough check during bath time once a week and still the flies caused problems.
