Guys, got a problem here.
Have 2 retrievers, both sisters. The elder one seems to be in control and constantly bullying the younger one..serious to the point where the younger one is , i believe, suffering from depression ><""

While the elder one is fit and healthy, the younger one has been losing fur, and I mean in patches all over the body showing bare skin and is definitely skinnier than the elder one. She hasn't lose her appetite or anything, suspect the elder one always eat her portion ><""

How to get the younger to be fit and healthy again?
Separate the 2 sisters?

I have a 1Y10M GR, playful yes - but she is so timid!! =S

She is so afraid of everything(ball rolling also ==") especially other dogs when I'm walking her in the evening.

Whenever see another, she'll terus enter ;
1) Defend position, growl damn loud (no bark)
2) Run for your life we're gonna die!! (runs back home at the speed of light)

Another problem is..after doing her 'big business', she malas to continue walking - straight wanna go home.

How to I;
1) make her have more courage? she's so afraid of everything =(
2) take her for a long walk without her running home after her 'big business'

is golden retrievers capable of running long distance?

cousin is asking me to take care of his 2 dogs for a year

quite busy at weekend, so the only time i can bring them out is weekday night

but i usually jog during that time

minimum 10KM, max 20KM

just want to make sure whether they can survive the distance a not
*
they are active ones, it's good to bring them for a run - they are quite hyper otherwise laugh.gif
do bring along a bottle for them to drink though, mine always get thirsty during evening stroll smile.gif

Hi anyone GR here suffering with Fungus deases? mine one was figure out by vet , He introduce malaseb shampoo, I'd apply it almost 4 months by applying twice a week for bath. but seems the shedding symptoms still there.
*
what kinda fungus is that?
my GR had an infection/fungus thingy that went:
1) the fur will drop off
2) the skin will tear open (no because of dog scratch, but infection/fungus "eating")
3) open wound with bleeding

Took her to the vet, then they gave some sort of spray-on medication, spray directly on the affected area and within few days the wound would start to heal and in the end, thankfully she's back to normal smile.gif

Sorry i am not sure which type of fungus is. but mine one seems without any wound.  i had try to change all types of dog foods, and the vet introduce me Natural balance with LID Salmon.. right now he is applying with it.. but seems without any improvement so far.
*
is the fungus still quite serious, like is there serious shedding?
cause you mentioned earlier already 4months on the treatment but no improvement..you should bring to the vet and let them know that the condition is not improving..maybe they have other methods to help wink.gif

I'm thinking of getting this breed, but they seem to be less smart compared to German shepherds. How does it compare and are there any golden retriever meet ups/clubs in kl so I can see the breed for myself
*
If you want for protection, then German is the way to go - http://www.cesarsway.com/dogbehavior/top-1...-for-protection
But if you want a hyper-friendly,hyper-active & intelligent doggy to have fun with and as a companion - golden is the way to go

Hope im not too late to reply sad.gif

Do you bring her out to social with other dogs? For an example, you can bring her to desapark city to social with more dogs, always on leash if you are worried that she will run away. Always praise her and let her know it is fine for other dogs to smell her butt.

Do you leash her when you bring her out for a walk? If you does then it should not be a problem to control her when u are outside :/ if you are not, then get a leash and bring her out as often as possible, walk to somewhere new which she's not familiar with, always pat her to let her know that she's doing a great job and praise her with very manja voice tone tongue.gif i always do this to my dog and it works.
*
dare not to bring to desa park, confirm she will #1 stand very very still (must be defend mode), then #2 start growling very garang laugh.gif
I bring her out to jalan in evening on a leash..she don't let any dog near her, got friendly German-shep(with owner), I went to pet the German and she watch..then when the German go near her, she angry liao and was pulling away - like "Run for your life!!!!!!!"

How old is the stray dog? Sex? If your dog its male then getting a female is better but must be spayed la.. Depends on ur dog behavior actually, does he growl when dogs come near its food? Is he friendly towards other dogs? Have u tried taking him out to socialize with other dogs? At first he will jealous, try letting them socialize n see how it goes, always leash the dog u are introducing to ur dogs, so that when they fight u can always carry the dog away sweat.gif
Wah, she has bad past experience with dogs? If thats the case then try try try to intro her a small dogs first? You can always try to let her be friend with small dogs in a closed area so that she will not feel to run for her life when the place is limited laugh.gif
*
lol, 100% no experience..she has buddies la, at home that is laugh.gif we have 1 mongrel & 1 mix(dachshund mix cocker spaniel), they were around when we brought the GR home, so she kinda got used to them already..no fights (except makan, no sharing laugh.gif )

Maybe you should first organize a gathering within this LYN Forum first. Gives us a chance to meet up and also for our Retrievers to socialize....
