Now got SA signal in Kota Bharu... could be 5G SA launch is near?
*
Maybe? No way they enable SA at all tower just for "testing"?
There are too many China devices that doesn't support B28 which causes them cannot use 5G here , perhaps SA could save these devices

Since they have 20x20 of B28/n28 can't they just do 15x15 for 5G and 5x5 for 4G? I assume no data transmission actually over B28 since it's just used as the anchor band.
*
There are, ENDC is enabled means data is pulled from both B28 LTE and N78 NR

Is there a timeline where the current NSA implementation will go to SA?
*
Unknown, but since few months ago all DNB tower enabled SA on N28 and N78. Not sure what taking them so long to launch SA commercially. Nowadays many 5G towers are heavily congested and somemore N28 and B28 is DSS. Not sure what's their next plan. Indoor coverage also only available in certain government and hospital buildings only.

U Mobile 5G SA
Not really stable though, suspect UMB core network registration got some problem
Some IBS like UTC Pudu have SA Signal but can't register , says timeout
U98 (I sign up just to test SA , need to use min 90 days)
QCI 8 / VoNR

Wow. There's even VoNR?
*
Yes , surprised cuz even U Mobile never mention it.
But seems like U Mobile disable every services when attach to N28 only. Cant register to data services nor voice services. Will fallback to LTE or N78 if in DNB N78 coverage.

Frequently got disconnected on N78 and will get either radio_failure or NR Registration Timeout, like even ur status bar have 5G and connected to SA but the Internet is not working. Have escalated to UMB for check.

Phone shows "emergency calls only" on Maxis Postpaid. First snapshot is Brickfields, second is Shah Alam.

I tried the same on my prepaid Digi SIM and Yes eSIM. It just shows No Service.

This is normal, even with U Mobile 5G SA enabled plan, you can connect to N28 but they disable Data & Voice on N28, meaning that even you registered and attach to N28, you can't make calls / SMS or surf Internet because U Mobile disable them on N28. Only N78 work and I can say their SA experience is bad, very very very bad. Initially I thought this is caused by my device (Pixel), but end up my friend that recently upgraded his plan from 68 to 98 and using Honor Magic 7 Pro also getting same experience on SA as me, very very very bad, especially very inconsistent and unstable. U Mobile really need to fix their SA handover / connection together with DNB.

Just curious when will DNB expand it's tower capacity, some of the tower around KL is already reaching maximum, N78 100MHz + B28 20MHz doesn't help, switch to 4G is better and faster.

Not sure does this 5G tower belongs to U Mobile but can 100% guarantee not DNB because DNB is using another tower and their 5G radio unit not so long like this
Huawei MetaAAU? If yes then it is U Mobile new 5G network

Got one questions, U Mobile claims their network is 5G SA only.
But :

1. SA is only available to certain plans (https://www.u.com.my/en/personal/support/faqs/others/5g-sa)

U Postpaid 98
U Biz 98
U Premium
U Platinum

user posted image

2. Their ULTRA5G is accessible by any 5G-enabled rate plan (both Prepaid and Postpaid)

user posted image

3. SoyaCincau / Lowyat.net Test Photo shows the Speedtest is performed by Samsung devices, where Samsung Devices have different indicators for 5G NSA and SA. The picture clearly indicates the current connected network is 5G NSA instead of 5G SA. U Mobile may not use different logo for 5G SA as other CSC / telcos. (Example : Vodafone NL)

https://www.lowyat.net/2025/362969/u-mobile...enang-bridge-1/

4. I saw U Mobile swapping / adding new RRU which includes B08 and B28 (RRU5516), which seems like doesn't support 5G NR. Then why they will need B28 in LTE if their 5G network run in SA only?

user posted image

So is their 5G network purely 100% run on SA only? or NSA both live like DNB?

About the 3rd point, Samsung actually doesn't have SA/NSA specific 5G indicator.... different market/firmware may have different 5G logo
*
Interesting, i remember i saw some post mentioned SA 5G indicator is different. But yes I agree that different CSC / FW have different 5G logo, like the one for CN is just 5G without box

UMULTRA5G is running on NSA+SA
ENDC with B28b and also 1/3/7
SA is NOT available to non SA supported plan (N1_mode_not_allowed)
Speed quite impressive, partially due to can ENDC on 1/3/7 as well
UL only using N78+B28b

Yes 5G SA

Interestingly, 5G NSA and SA has similar speeds (tested on Galaxy A56 5G).
Plan : Yes Power 35
*
Because at the end both of them have CA
NSA B28 + N78
SA N28 + N78
The N28/B28 is DSS-ed
Both of them doesn’t make big difference in terms of speed because it’s the same spectrum
