I've had an accident previously and my ncd become 0, since rarely use the car, I am thinking of saving money by buying 3rd party for this year and later change to 1st party insurance on the subsequent year. For changing to 1st party again, is it hard to get approval since car > 20 years old.

My old sunny 130y was on 1st party insurance from 1992 till 2015

Then one year my normal insurance agen lady (tanchong) went on holiday
Another young boy handle my case
He refuse to cover comprehensive....
Last last kena 3rd party,

Next year the lady agen ask why get 3rd party......

Now do direct with liberty insurance... Since tc also no accept my old car dee

Old car issue is always the parts availability
Paying comprehensive also they won't cover full

The loss is high

If the insurer accepts, then you should think about several things.

1. Need for this particular vehicle.
- If you are highly dependent on this vehicle (no other vehicle around); OR
- Sentimental value (determined to preserve the vehicle regardless)

AND

- You (As third party do not take into account of all authorized drivers) drive in high risk mode i.e. frequent accidents in the past

Then yes you should cancel your current, and go for the first.

2. The value of the vehicle.
- If your insured value is lower than or equal to cash payment fixes, then chances are, you are betting on the NCD upon subsequent renewals to be more value for money.
- But until then, if your condition is as above bolded part, then you should go for it.

Either way, since you are concerned about the value, I would presume that you are conscious about the costs and want to have a maximum protection possible.

Therefore, unless you are not confident at all of your own driving skills / you drive recklessly, then you should stick with the third party until subsequent renewal.

Edit: Like above, you need to review the insurer history for insuring older car models, as the claims for parts maybe a hassle.

Comprehensive still need to pay the owner however small quantity it is

Like mine, the car evaluation is maybe around 4-5 k
But I need to buy rm10k coverage, as it is the minimum for them

Total the car maybe get back 5k from them
Along with paying the 3rd party if needed

3rdparty only pay the other party
The owner gets nothing
