QUOTE(Quantum Geist @ May 24 2024, 07:09 AM) Also worth noting the higher the seafood is on the food chain, the more mercury accumulates in the flesh of the seafood Agree but prawns are bottom feeders. Like lipas. The bigger they are the bigger amount of crap they eaten.

QUOTE(etan26 @ May 24 2024, 09:01 AM) So far got anyone died of seafood mercury poisoning? I am curious to see the stats. I have never seen any news that eating mercury laden fish directly causing death, but I've heard/seen bodybuilding and fitness people getting mercury poisoning because of eating a lot of albacore tuna for long periods of time. As with everything the key is moderation. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38253381/

So far that is the only major case of mercury poisoning due to bioaccumulation in seafood. This leads to mercury poisoning to be known as Minamata disease btw. The major cause of this incident was due to heavy dumping of toxic chemical wastes containing mercury from nearby factories into the ocean. This post has been edited by amysthe: May 24 2024, 09:51 AM

QUOTE(Quantum Geist @ May 24 2024, 09:52 AM) Didn't know about this one Not surprising since this incident happened back in 60’s and there were no internet back then. You can only come across this issue if you watched a lot of documentaries. I only knew about this stuff because I had disaster management subject in university. Really mind-opening and skewed my view about Japs since they’re the ones behind the Bukit Merah rare earth case too.

QUOTE(Avangelice @ May 23 2024, 11:50 PM) The longer seafood stays alive in the sea, the more the mercury content is increased in their flesh. Plus the older they are the more rubbery their flesh is No thanks ^ this PS there's a reason why PuAS prefer... oh wai...
