QUOTE(ozak @ May 15 2024, 09:47 AM) I cannot brain how the electricity can be transfer to SG. Internet U think come from where? That's a bloody long distance for a power transmission. Back to earliest when Bakun is construct, we plan transmit the power to west. Till now no nothing news. Undersea cables Kan? It's not that ridiculous |

actually little different from internet cable. only thing required is probably a repeater to reduce power loss (voltage drop). That's why super long cables nowadays possible.
this project is just 1 of many for sinkieland. They also have sama sama for cambodia, vietnam and indo. many longer than 1000km (which will be longer than the 720km in this project). ASEAN power grid. |

QUOTE(LDP @ May 15 2024, 09:48 AM) Agreeable...Question is how does the export of electricity benefit the ppl in Swak ? If there is no benefit to the local people, then what is the point of the project ? Sell electricity to Singapore and West Malaysia (and maybe Sabah) at a higher rate.Use it to cross subsidise electricity rates for Sarawakians in Sarawak. Sarawak has been selling electricity to West Kalimantan since 2016: https://www.theborneopost.com/2022/08/28/gr...n-power-sector/ https://www.adb.org/sites/default/files/lin...-013-ino-ea.pdf |

Sarawak will be our largest renewable energy hub. Renewable energy is the next century oil. Even Saudi invested heavily in renewable energy now.

QUOTE(ozak @ May 15 2024, 09:56 AM) That's signal fiber. On lengthNot mega watt power transmission for a long distance. Is the tech already available? Yes, world's longest subsea power cable (longer than 720km suggested) already built. https://electrek.co/2023/09/04/worlds-longe...ea-power-cable/ 3800km suggested. In theory, how long doesn't matter so long as got repeater. https://spectrum.ieee.org/underwater-power-cable xxxxxxxxxxx On sarawak price, with all the energy projects Sarawak electricity generation capacity by 2030 will be in excess of 9 GW of which demand by 2030 is expected to be 6.6GW leaving at least 2.4GW excess. Sabah won't need that much. This is really selling excess infrastructure to deep pockets. |

That's why super long cables nowadays possible. To transmit such a long distance, the voltage have to be very high. The cable insulation is crazy thick. Voltage drop % and heat generate. The cable is under the sea and corrosion, shark attack.this project is just 1 of many for sinkieland. They also have sama sama for cambodia, vietnam and indo. many longer than 1000km (which will be longer than the 720km in this project). ASEAN power grid. And is that easy to repair? And I cannot imagine the cost. |

QUOTE(SuperGampang @ May 15 2024, 08:03 AM) sawarak should focus on their own people first before talking about exporting power. right now soo many people with no or unstable power supply there even basic services are interupted on daily basis. hearsay statement or wad? where unstable power supply?Good move tho but please. give all electricity coverage 1st before exporting it |

No difference from existing submarine internet cable. Same way to repair.
All cable are laid on sea bed (not easily disturbed). If damaged, submarine cable repair ships just lift damage section, remove section and re-connect. Not rocket science. If you have seen submarine cable, they are actually not very big but wrapped in insulation (no issue of corrosion). |

QUOTE(ozak @ May 15 2024, 09:56 AM) That's signal fiber. The longest electricity HVDC submarine power cable is 765 kilometres: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_LinkNot mega watt power transmission for a long distance. Is the tech already available? The length between Tondong, Sarawak to Changi, Singapore is about 700-720KM: https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/s...-sarawak-energy https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/202...singapore/52660 https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/699156 Theoretically, it is possible. |

yes HVDC is logical. They use a step up transformer at transmitting end and step down once it lands to connect back to AC.

what people don't realise is that when building a dam, the size is based on water flow etc. Hence the dam cost is same whether lower flow or max flow. The hydro projects clearly has excess capacity. Selling excess capacity to recover infrastructure cost makes sense.
Sinkie probably will fund the HVDC (looks like around ~RM7-10B). That is really what sinkie consumer will pay more & most in terms of. This post has been edited by takbodoh722: May 15 2024, 10:13 AM |

QUOTE(11c @ May 15 2024, 07:57 AM) STAR NW Kudos to Sarawak, a state to be emulated by the Peninsula! Why? sarawak will , sarawak will, sawarak will ... Reasons as follows: 1) Sarawak secondary schools will be teaching Maths&Science subjects in English from 2026. 2) The state will also bring back assessments for Year 6 and Form 3 students, replacing the scrapped UPSR and PT3 exams. 3) Sarawak will be the first state to produce green hydrogen for export. 4) Its the first state to introduce Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) for its Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS).This is a trackless articulated hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle running on dedicated lines. Now JB wants to follow suit for its LRT linking to RTS-Singapore, as its cheaper than building elevated tracks. 5) Now,latest news yesterday is Petroleum Sarawak (PETROS) will take over natural gas trading activities from Petronas in July. 6) It has offered itself as a regional host for SEA Games 2027. 7) Lastly, Sarawak will export electricity power to Singapore from 2031. I believe in 5 to 10 years time, Sarawak will be advanced in its technological innovation, matching developed nations like Singapore. ALL above reasons will attract more tourists, investment and inbound migration to the state. Lee Hui Seng, will will willl inb4 janji dicapati .. saya ulammmm |
