undersea cable undertaking by SG. SARAWAK has extremely good relationships with Kalimantan. Both sides are des border control are like brothers. When we catch Kalimantan people illegally coming in., tangkap gambar, lodge police report n told to return. Photos in the news with face blurred. Indo got general consulate in Kuching. Hope Sarawak doesn't fall to a lopsided agreement that requires decades for any changes or price increase.

Already enough they got cheated with their own local politicians that amassed billions of wealth for 7 generations.

Hope the locals were given the priority now after decades of neglect.

Dude, this ain’t no 80s no more.

There AI and automations > huge populations of Banglas for your sweatshops.

Kidding?

2.5m population the size of land larger than west MY ?

You only think output but not the consumer market of the state.

Even at this state of population, Sarawak need to get Indon for the worker.

sawarak should focus on their own people first before talking about exporting power. right now soo many people with no or unstable power supply there even basic services are interupted on daily basis.

Good move tho but please. give all electricity coverage 1st before exporting it

Kan indon is right at next door, that’s the target for consumer market. No point pumping up own populations only to end up need to fork out more subsidies to feed them.

IIRC this will be a joint project with Semenanjung's TNB.

"“The proposed project to connect electricity supply from Sarawak to West Malaysia is still at the preliminary study stage by Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB),” he said when tabling his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.

When asked about the imposition of charges to West Malaysia, Julaihi, during a press conference afterwards, stated that this matter is still under commercial negotiation and that its outcome will be kept confidential until Sarawak Energy decides to announce it.

He further explained that the electricity export from Sarawak to West Malaysia would be implemented by using an undersea cable passing through Indonesia’s Muri-Midai corridor, similar to the electricity export from Sarawak to Singapore."

"“Thus, they (West Malaysia) have to bear it (the cost). Whoever is the buyer (of Sarawak’s electricity) they have to bear the cost. It’s not us. We are only selling the electricity,” he explained."

STAR NW Kudos to Sarawak, a state to be emulated by the Peninsula! Why?

Reasons as follows:

1) Sarawak secondary schools will be teaching Maths&Science subjects in English from 2026.

2) The state will also bring back assessments for Year 6 and Form 3 students, replacing the scrapped UPSR and PT3 exams.

3) Sarawak will be the first state to produce green hydrogen for export.

4) Its the first state to introduce Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) for its Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS).This is a trackless articulated hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle running on dedicated lines. Now JB wants to follow suit for its LRT linking to RTS-Singapore, as its cheaper than building elevated tracks.

5) Now,latest news yesterday is Petroleum Sarawak (PETROS) will take over natural gas trading activities from Petronas in July.

6) It has offered itself as a regional host for SEA Games 2027.

7) Lastly, Sarawak will export electricity power to Singapore from 2031.

I believe in 5 to 10 years time, Sarawak will be advanced in its technological innovation, matching developed nations like Singapore. ALL above reasons will attract more tourists, investment and inbound migration to the state.

UNCLOS grants freedom to lay submarine cable in EEZ. Specifically article 79 (part VI).

EEZ or exclusive economic zone is not territorial waters. It merely grants certain rights to coastal states to exploit its resources.

The area between bolehland west and east are mostly EEZ. The cable will run thru malaysia territorial waters on both sides.

This cable, Indonesia little say.

In the same winding-up speech, Julaihi also informed the august House that the federal government had approved the Sarawak government’s proposal to implement the undersea cable project spanning 720km from Tondong, Sarawak to Changi, Singapore, through Indonesia’s Muri-Midai corridor.

“The current status of the electricity supply interconnection project from Sarawak to Singapore is at the technical research stage, including undersea cable survey work.

“This cable project will be underwritten by Singapore. This interconnection project is expected to operate commercially in 2031,” he said.

"Whoever is the buyer (of Sarawak’s electricity) they have to bear the cost. It’s not us. We are only selling the electricity,” he explained.

I cannot brain how the electricity can be transfer to SG.

That's a bloody long distance for a power transmission.

Back to earliest when Bakun is construct, we plan transmit the power to west. Till now no nothing news.

Agreeable...Question is how does the export of electricity benefit the ppl in Swak ? If there is no benefit to the local people, then what is the point of the project ?
