happened to my mom's WhatsApp earlier last week.

somehow messages only gets pushed through if she opens the application otherwise it stays silent and from the sender side, it shows "one gray tick" until she opens the application then it becomes "two gray ticks".

what gives?

she is on iOS 17.

Oh I thought it's MIUI.. well maybe can ask in iOS forum.

I am Android user. Usually that happens if we block the app from running in backgroud. Might need to check any settings related to that.

It’s even worse actually…after updating to iOS 17.4.1, the WhatsApp widget is gone.

After updating to 17.4.1, even the WhatsApp widget is gone. Now cannot preview who messaged me before opening the app.

Is your phone locally bought from a reliable supplier?

Maybe it's a ploy to push more users to use iMessage and iPhone

This is strange then i have a company iphone bought from europe, always suffering from delayed notifications including WhatsApp

Local iphone no problem. Although i have 1 iphone 12 which suddenly suffers delay notification for all apps. I sold it and buy a 13 mini. However, when i wiped the phone and reinstall apps to try, the issue with delay notification is gone

I've had similar problems before. Have you checked her notification settings both in the app and on her phone? Sometimes those get wonky after updates. If that doesn't work, maybe try deleting and reinstalling the app. It's fixed issues for me in the past. And if nothing works, reaching out to WhatsApp support could be worth a shot. They might have some tips for iOS 17 users.

Yeah, have double checked all of the notifications and they are set orderly which is why i am puzzled. I guess the only way is to try and reinstall it. I'm also running on iOS and but WhatsApp is just fine.

By the way, she has a lot of attachments (pictures/documents etc.), will these be reinstated back after a fresh installation and recovered back from backup?

depends how big the attachments....

if too big. probably nope.

so to be safe side. try to have some backups first in other device / drive before you do fresh installations

I see, WhatsApp for iOS seems to only be able to back up to iCloud and no place else and I don't think the phone backup via iTunes to the computer will also save the WhatsApp's record.

An update on the situation.

I tried a fresh installation and it works normally for like 5 or 6 minutes and then after that, the same problem creeps up. I have checked all my notification settings and they are all turned on.

What is going on =/
