Hi fellow sifus,

I attended JPMorgan’s superday interview for the Asia Analyst Development Programme (AADP). I was wondering if any sifus would be willing to share with me how is it like in JPMorgan Malaysia.

1. How is the work culture in JP
2. The pay, increments and bonuses
3. Prospects after the programme

Thank you in advance to the kind souls who are willing to the time out of their busy scdehules to entertain a macai like me.

Work culture is the typical American style where you really need to work hard and show performance. Very little room to slack and everyday can be a hectic day.
The pay, increment and bonuses are worth the amount of work that you put in. At the early start you can typically earn from RM20k all the way to RM50k easily (especially if you have CFA Level 3)
Not too sure about the program, as these were mostly direct hires

Thanks for the heads up into their culture and pay!

I currently have only passed CFA level 1. May I ask is CFA necessary in all the departments in JP or just the IB, Markets etc.

Wow! The pay looks amazing. I would perhaps its total compensation incl bonuses that bump it to the 20k to 50k level.

If youre not in JP anymore, were the exits from JP good?

And again, I thank you so so much for taking time to answer my small potato questions

It isn't total comp, it is base salary. I wasn't in it but my best friend was. He shared to me that only having the CFA level 3 did they take notice of him during the hiring process (we came from engineering backgrounds). I do have to warn you that he exited as well and took a pay cut as he couldn't handle the stress and pressure after about 7 years.

Coincidentally, I am also from engineering background haha. Wow, 20k base is tons of money, may I ask what is his job title (Vice President)?

Is he in the investment banking department? And how about you, are you still in engineering?

All this MNCs usually have pay equalisation, they won't pay you so far from their US counterparts. In US, a tier 1 FI average now should be 60-80k usd p.a for fresh recruits

Does it still apply to JPMorgan Malaysia? Because I’ve seen other post talking about JPMorgan Malaysia compensation is not that much different from your IB in Malaysia and that pay is not much.

Hello, I’m entering uni this year and am wondering if JPM Malaysia and other top finance MNCs have internal transfer programs (eg to HONG KONG, SG , etc)

I heard the pay in HK is better (after tax and all) , but would like to start from the Malaysia office since entry to HK firms are too competitive.
Thank you!!

Don’t dream about 20k in Malaysia as a freshie. That happens only in front office, and pretty senior one at that. If you’re in middle or back office roles (risk, credit, reporting, ops, etc), then you might get 20k if you get to senior assoc, ie promoted twice)

AADP is a 2 year program and you rotate every 6 or 9 months. The pay should be 5.5k? Might be more now.

The downside is you are NOT guaranteed a role after 2 years. You have to find a dept that has an opening.

A lot of AADP leave after their program ends. But u do get to network quite a bit, and they will ask you to organize events, mostly sports club, or some club events.

while its possible, moving around isnt as straightforward as you'd think because everyone's eyeing on the same opportunities.
freshie pay is not as high as illustrated lol
