If not mistaken normal table top filter with single active carbon filter will not filter out heavy metals from our raw water.

Any recommendation for budget water filter that will do the job?

Edit:

So far nice option found with ktards recommendation:
1) Cosway Hexagon 8-stage Water Purifier 89648 (new system RM330, replacement filter RM170)
2) Cosway Hexagon Water Filter - Alkaline Water Filtration System 2 (new system RM720, 3 cartridges to replace)
3) AQUASANA AQ-4000W (US filtration brand)

you need to check at least the filters can clean/replacable or after few years you need to dispose of it... if yourr area the waterr verry dirty then you can maybe last up to 1 year then you need buy new one... but i guess is ok for 1 year you pay 300 for clean water is better than you buy bottled water outside.

you can check your water quality using a TDS meter... shoppe also got sell..

I'm using the Joven activated carbon filter similar to Panasonic basic filter, I always boil the water for drinking purpose.

I read carbon filter over time will breed germs inside (filter removed chlorine hence germ can breed), you should not direct drink filtered water with simple activated carbon filtration.

For cheaper version u may use the normal single or double outdoor water filter 10/20 inch PP, for a better one u may use the membrane type. Membrane type is better as the filtration micron is smaller.

Seems like just another activated carbon filter that don't mention filtration of heavy metals.
"The SF filter has the function to remove chlorine, chlorinated hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), dissolved inorganic impurities and other harmful contaminants."

It's a red flag when they just vaguely mentioned "other harmful contaminants" without being specific.

For me, I will get those Panasonic RM200+ or Joven RM200 filter, since there's already an outdoor filter that will filter most of the contaminants.

The downside is, these RM200 water filter needs to boil it before drinking.

On the plus side, it will save you electricity and have a much lower maintenance cost.

Currently using Joven, I think the Cosway filter mentioned in post one is a step up still within reasonable price that have the extra benefit of removing more than just activated carbon filter.

Debatable.

RO is purest no bacteria no vitamins no minerals. But what water needs to do (rehydrate) it definitely serves its purpose.
Those minerals whatsoever even exists in water also wouldnt make much difference coz the amount is too little.
Jew can get minerals from food.

On the other hand, alkaline water imo too much is not good.

I do see the LG Puricare with RM60/mth promotion, but that is commitment for years that will totalled RM5k plus.

The cheapest way is to install a sand filter outside your house, install an activated carbon filter in your kitchen and boil the water before drinking.

If you have more budget, find a way to add UV filter into your system. If you have even more budget, you can add more filters in your kitchen. If the sand filter does most of the work, your filters should last longer.

Most big brands already make it a convenient filter packaging (and it come with convenience tax of course). Panasonic all in one filter is fairly cheap, easy to use and replace. You can install that after the sand filter in the kitchen.

*
I do boil for drinking water, so UV is redundant and boiling wins over UV any day.

Panasonic basic filter is just basic activated carbon filter (same with my current Joven filter), they don't filter out heavy metals.

Ayam using Coway its around RM50/month free warranty free change filter and cleaning. Ayam not sure how more budget is budget.

Some ppl say buy bottled mineral water is cheaper.

Both water machine and bottled water also u wont really know the filtration really works or not unless u so sample test frequently.

Btw imo dont need to be that kiasi. Ayam bet the probability of death by accident is higher chance than death by heavy metal.

I'm using Aquasana and find that it's quite good. Water has no weird taste and it's according to 4 NSF standard. Filter manufactured in US. They're a big water filter company with commercial solutions too. So, it will not be too bad.

Heavy metals in drinking water also causes harm to the lungs, liver, kidneys, and other vital organs. Heavy metals are also known as carcinogens that can cause cancer.

If immediate die no suffering (ayam prefer heart attack wink.gif ), but more likely we get organs damage over prolong exposure to heavy metals in drinking water that leads to long term suffering.

The amount makes a difference in the long run, and it also changes the composition of the water. RO water is slightly acidic which is not good for your kidneys. It also makes the water less stable due to the lack of minerals, which means it can leach of whatever it comes into contact with. Which potentially leads to more toxicity (metal/plastic from pipes/bottle/cups/etc)/

You can mitigate all these factors, but its effort you really have to put in.

doesn't matter, every basic activated carbon filter also mention filter out chlorine, odour, rust...... but none of them dare to mention filter out heavy metals (except those pricier filter with more filter elements).

They don't dare to mention it in product description because it doesn't filter out heavy metals, otherwise they can be sued for misleading product info.

if pipe leak,.. water go outside,.. outside material can't go inside b'cos of pressure,..

i already recommended u any cheap micro pores ceramic filter (can filter up to microns, but best u got sand filter outside),.. then next it go to activated carbon filter,.. that would be cheap, suffice and safe,..

if u really scared,.. then don't go cheap,.. just buy RO,..

Problem is these cosway doesn't have any NSF certification to proof their claim, like anyone can put any claim of how well their filter works.

Look for the one NSF certified at least

Don't think carbon filter effective enough for heavy metals

If so kiasi, try small water distiller, shopee RM400 - 500 can get, single person sufficient maybe...

Good and effective water filtration never come cheap...

And don't eat salmon or cold sea fish, they have higher heavy metal content

RM60 is the machine rental?

So making it RM1K/year?

If not mistaken normal table top filter with single active carbon filter will not filter out heavy metals from our raw water.

Any recommendation for budget water filter that will do the job?

Edit:

So far nice option found with ktards recommendation:
1) Cosway Hexagon 8-stage Water Purifier 89648 (new system RM330, replacement filter RM170)
2) Cosway Hexagon Water Filter - Alkaline Water Filtration System 2 (new system RM720, 3 cartridges to replace)
3) AQUASANA AQ-4000W (US filtration brand)

Been using this Hexagon 8-stage and Hexagon water filter 2 for more than 10 years. No regret.
And been recommend this to /ktard oso many years back.

Hexagon 8-stage filtered quite well. Tasteless like mineral water. Even can be drink directly but i still prefer to cook it.
Usually using it to wash vegies n fruits, make soup.

Hexagon water filter 2 then i drink direct.

Hexagon 8-stage only need to replace once in 10-12 months, or even 1 half year. If it go brown, can just gently brush it off.
If got good outdoor water filter then it will not get dirty easily.

I use water filter 5 micron outside the house, sendiri tukar.

The filter becomes very dirty in a few days only even after I have cleared out tons of water before fitting in new Pensonic cartridge, changing every 2-3 months, and cost rm20 per year.

And activated carbon filter for drinking, 1 cartridge per year cost me rm75

But they stopped producing "made in Japan" version, the "made in China" version is cheaper by 25%.

So I stocked up some earlier version before it goes away for good.

I don't want to drink super duper clean water every single day, give body some chance to work it out daily.

Nope, there's rental plan and outright purchase

If rental, all filters and warranty are included during the whole 5 or 7 years

If outright purchase, filters and warranty only covered for 2 years, after that customer need to buy filter package separately at RM320/yr

So what happen after 7 years for rental plan?
The model probably discontinued so need to get new model with 7 years contract? Is it contract or can stop rental any time?

Covay/Sk at least 70 or 80 a month. And those are the most basic model, no hot water function.

LG got hot water function, so no need to use kettle anymore.

Water quality wise, I think all are equally good

Yea bro, u got it 100% right thumbup.gif

Only 3 differences between the 2 models, even prices are the same:

1) 10ml volume control

2) Favourite setting

3) Square shape design so cannot swing 180° as desired once installed (can still be installed vertically or horizontally)

Afaik other big brands are charging RM500+ per year for maintenance, RM320 should be one of the cheaper ones?

After 7 years can continue to use the unit and just buy filter package, 518 and 516 are using the same filters biggrin.gif

If 7 years its a fixed contract, if 5 years plan, at the end of 3rd year u may choose to continue using the unit, change to another model or cancel and return at no penalty etc.

Hard to say bro

At first it was only for 516 white color until 29 Oct, then HQ extended it to for 516 all color variants until 31 Dec, then no more cry.gif

Stock level was constantly low last 2 months, only until this week start to have some left after fulfilling overdue orders...

Usually it's better to have outdoor + indoor as it is more cost efficient this way, let the cheaper filters to filter the bigger particles/dirt and keep the smaller micron filters lifespan longer

But this is usually not possible if u are staying condo (condo mgmt usually don't allow, u can try ask), so most brands equip their products with sediment filters too

Either way it shouldn't affect ur drinking water quality, as long as ur drinking water is filtered off bacteria/viruses and heavy metals thumbup.gif

Isn't it supposed to be lower than main since it is filtered water?

TDS =/= cleanliness of ur water, it simply means how much solids are in ur water, these solids can be either good or bad

In ur case, it's most likely the minerals that the SK Magic's post-carbon filter put in ur water, highly likely to be safe to drink thumbsup.gif
