AceCombat reporting in!!!

Today is a good day to do some benchy and oc stuff,so i decided to go and meet up my sponsor and get a Palit 8800GT 512MB 256bit version.
Palit is a well known brand which most of their products are highly overclockable and selling at bargain price.

Firstly,let's look at the shining box. brows.gif
user posted image
from the box we can see that it's just as big as those previous model that made by Palit,and Palit just replace the old green color box to a shining green color box.

Then,let's us look at the accessories that bundle together with the display card.
S-Video,VGA to DMI converter,molex to PCIE converter,Driver disc,user manual and a game.
The game that bundle together is Tomb Raider Anniversary drool.gif
user posted image

Rock and Roll babe,here comes the all new G92 8800GT from Palit,it has a katak hijau on top of the heat sink and it's a layer of sticker,the card got some weight.
user posted image

As for the rear part,it has 12 screws locking the heat sink fan.the PCB is nVidia reference green color.
user posted image

Alright,after a simple introduction,let's move on and install the card into a pc spec as below:
Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6700 Kentsfield B3 stepping
Asus Maximus Formula bios 0505 rev1.02g
Crucial 10th Anniversary 2*1GB DDR2 800MHz 4-4-4-12 (i standardize it)
Enermax Infiniti 650W Modular PSU
Western Digital Raptor 10k RPM 74.3GB
Cooler Master Stacker STC-T01 with a 200cfm fan blow directly from intake into GC area.
Driver: nvidia forceware 167.26

Let's move on,the machine is started!!!

Once the pc started,i installed the driver that bundle together with the GC,it's forceware 167.26,and i installed the Direct X 9.0c that bundle with the driver too.
and then i'll be using Riva Tuner 2.06 as the GC overclocking tool and CPU-z and GPU-z to confirm the spec of the hardwares.
Let's move on to the GC temperature.

user posted image

for a single slot high core and memory clock speed GC,an idle temperature of 59c consider very good already,riva Tuner shows that teh GC is at the stock speed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Overclocking and Benchmark Section:
--------------------------------------------
First run of the GC,
whole rig remain stock speed except the ram.
Processor:Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6700 @ 2.66GHz
RAM:800MHz 4-4-4-12
GC:Palit 8800GT core/mem/shader 600/1800/1500MHz
user posted image
It's ready to go!!!
Temperature status:(600/1800/1500,stock)
59c idle
82c load
The temperature for load is a bit rclxub.gif
and here it comes,the result for stock condition,unbelievable!!!!
user posted image
Second Run of the GC
Quad @ 2.66GHz
RAM @ 800mhz CL4
GC @ 650/1900/1625 core/mem/shader
It's ready to go!!!
user posted image
Temperature status:(650/1900/1625,OC-ed)
59c idle
84c load
and the result is here:small improvement.
user posted image
Third run of the GC
Quad @ 2.66GHz
RAM @ 800mhz CL4
GC @ 700/2000/1750 core/mem/shader
On the mark!!!
user posted image
Temperature Status:(700/2000/1750,OC-ed)
60c idle
85c load
and the result is here ya!!!
user posted image
Suprisingly,this Palit 8800GT is not the highly overclockable card as we expeted from Palit,anything beyond 700/2000/1750 cannot pass the 3DMark06,even 705/1005 also failed the test cry.gif
After found out that this Palit 8800GT is not really overclockable,i kinda disappointed.
i chose Palit because i wanna oc kaw kaw,but now only can oc a bit,maybe due to new technology,and they are not yet used to it.
so nevermind,i MAX out everything in order to get the highest score that i can get from the rig.
and now i oc become like this:
QX6700 @ 3.6GHz
RAM @ 960MHz
GC @ 700/2000/1750 core/mem/shader
and teh result is.........MAGNIFICENT!!!! flex.gif flex.gif flex.gif
user posted image
And this is the benchmark for 8800Ultra with :
QX6700 @ 3.7GHz
Asus P5K-Deluxe
OCZ Flex 2*1GB
Western Digital Raptor 36GB
Asus 8800 Ultra @ 684/2268/1647 core/mem/shader
user posted image
RM920 Palit 8800GT-------------------14949 points
RM2699 Asus 8800Ultra---------------15412 points
Price different:RM1779 sweat.gif
Points in 3dmark06 different:463 points sweat.gif
teh different is only 463 points when both come to oc,and not to mentioned that teh 8800Ultra rig is much more faster than this 8800GT rig,previously i did the 8800Ultra in LYN 3DMark06 database.
and one ultra=3x8800GT and i believe that a single 8800ultra cannot pawn 8800GT in SLi and if u have three PCIE slot,why dont u just put 3 units since their total price is only a single 8800 ultra?
Let's move on to disassemble the GC.
It's time to take off teh heat sink and see what is inside the babe rclxms.gif
take off teh heat sink,the first thing i noticed is,teh core is much smaller than 8800GTS,GTX and Ultra,
but the layout of the ram and chip is almost same,take a look.
The ram of this Palit 8800GT is made by Qimonda,no wonder 2000MHz only sweat.gif
user posted image
next,move to the heat sink,a giant copper base heat sink is located at the middle of teh heat sink fan and there is a lot of thermalpad for the ram chip.
the temperature that i shoed u guys is teh temp that uses stock thermalpaste.
user posted image
Quality of component,as u expected froom Palit,standard quality component,but it looks tidy if arrange like this,just the thermalpad they never cut it nicely. vmad.gif
user posted image
Lastly,the core,G92 exposed and it looks like this,nothing so special,written down made in taiwan and code G92,sorry my camera too suck,cannot zoom and macro it cry.gif
user posted image
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So,this is the end of my short review and benchmark and overclock of Palit 8800GT,sorry if my thread is messy,hope those value is useful for u guys.

Nice job. Hope to see that little mascot again next time.... laugh.gif

Don't be too disappointed at the max OC. I think that's the max OC for these 8800 series cards (at stock cooling), although the GT has a new core with the rams supposedly rated at 2 Ghz.....

So what's the retail price? smile.gif

P.S. Ask somebody to sponsor a nice digital camera la..... just make sure you don't torture it too!!! sweat.gif

this is not a messy review lah bro, very nice and understandable though.

looking at the benchies and the price of this card really makes me tempt to buy... aihhhhh, really wondering how it's gonna be like if this turns to SLI mode, must be superb and surely affordable for getting the satisfaction..

very good review and thanks for the result in 3dmark06.....seems that nvidia is throwing the whole price = performance standard to the wind. most GTS, GTX, Ultra owners sure cry now over their expensive investment smile.gif. ati had better have an ace up their sleeve with the upcoming 3800 series.

when's the benchies for the latest games?

does that mean we can put in the Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5?

anyway,i see that the socket and holder for the heat sink fan is excatly the same as 8800GTS,GTX and Ultra,that's mean HR-03 can be used on 8800GT.

anyway,the cooler is so small and tiny,but with the idle temp same as the giant heat sink of previous model of 8800,it works great,but the load temp really terrible la,

fan spin at the same 1600rpm as previous 8800.

anyway,i see that the socket and holder for the heat sink fan is excatly the same as 8800GTS,GTX and Ultra,that's mean HR-03 can be used on 8800GT.

anyway,the cooler is so small and tiny,but with the idle temp same as the giant heat sink of previous model of 8800,it works great,but the load temp really terrible la,

fan spin at the same 1600rpm as previous 8800.

if like that wonder how fast this gc can go if the cooler chnaged to HR-03 and oc more?? brows.gif

8800gt supports dx10, infact, the 1st dx10 gpu is the 8800 series,
but if u're saying that 8800gt does not support dx10.1 then its correct..
and btw, all 8 series gc supports dx10

Yea, but I'm getting a 2nd hand with reasonable price. Just grab it. To all, please take note that the HSF mounting holes on 8800GT is not same as 8800GTS/GTX/Ultra, so HR-03 Plus won't fits, HR-03 Rev. A does. Cooler which can be used on 6600/6800/7800 and X1800/X1900 or compatible to it fits on 8800GT.

seeing the majority of the cards
aren't it a bit peculiar that suddenly there is an influx of most manufacturer at the same time?
and some more the design is a bit generic

some how i feel that this card is going dow the nforce680i chipset path
with the product coming out right now is BBN/MBN (build by nvidia/made by nvidia)
and the companies just slap on their silk screen prints and stickers

y so surprised with the 450w running the GTs on SLI?

the 8800GT consumes less power than the current 8800-GTS GTX & Ultra mah.

anyone that didnt believe this would be really schoked... even running single card i still get around 10.5-11K mark from 3dmark 06.... by the way if i can trade it for evga or asus 8800gt soon i would...

legend of bull shit

cause recently did a comparison with coolice using the 3dmark calculator

u need to OC the C2d to 3.6ghz with BST dudes current lyn 20k records SM2/SM3 scores add a few more hundred to both.

ok dude this is the temps
i tried to copy the fastest 8800gt clocks available on the market
the EVGA 8800gt SSC ( SUper super clocked.. yeah i know its lame but this is EVGA new line of OC cards)

this is the temps
[attachmentid=320215]
Left running Overnight in a room without fan at 100% fan speed

First one is the GPu temps ( ok i cant confirm this but i think this is wrong)
Cause checking using everest this is GPU temps
and second one is AMBIent TEMPS

roughly the correct temps in everest should be GPU diode temps
which usually is around +5-10C more than GPU temps

450w for SLi is possible i think, since this card is rated at 110w if not mistaken.........so add up only half of the PSU rating

btw is the qimonda chips main reason that causes Palit to dun OC well ??

Please post some results. Interested to know. I wouldn't be surprise considering that the fan is slated to put out about 11 cfm only!!! One website actually recommend removing the cover......hmmm.... maybe removing the cover and putting fans to blow on the GT would be a better and cheaper solution..... hmm.gif Of course, the best would be 3rd party HSF...

thats rubbish
from the sound and the airflow i would be guessing around 60-70 cfm

hmm u want to know artifact free or just benching clocks??

artifact free is just a bit more than what i posted but that depends on ure ambient temp, casing etc.
but i can confirm to all of u this card has no probs doing the same clocks as EVGA SSC 700/1750/2000 artifact freaking free
cause i did that artifact scanning with no aircon / even fan and inside my case and left it to run for 4 hours from 4 in the morning till 8a.m.

be specific.. the reason i have benched cause i havent figured out yet the PCB's heat spots..

Oopss... didn't notice you posted it in the previous page. So, is the temp at 66'c correct? Why do you say it is wrong?

Edit : I seriously doubt that such a small fan could possibly put out 60-70cfm... hmm.gif

ok

theres 3 temps for all the 8800's
the GPU temp, GPu ambient Temp and GPU Core temp

the correct temp is GPU core temp

the two on ATI tools is GPU temp and GPU ambient temp

when ntune works it will show GPU core temp

unless they changed something for the 8800gt drivers then sorry .

i have my style,remain everything as stock as possible to have the best performance,no point to run the fan 100% everyday and oc until the limit,for what?
use as stock as possible and run to its limit.

this is what my style.

no point for 100% fan speed,remain as stock to get the best performance.

also to those who are thinking of overclocking their 8800gt with 3rd party Heatsink

wait till more reports on Vmod comes out
need to see whether there is an OVP on this card
if there is then tough luck .. cause even if u vmod the increase is very minimal

nah dude

i dont want to argue with u
ure ultra was impressive at stock cooler although most ppl here didnt notice it

just that want a fair comparison for the overclocking potential for the 8800gt's
as far as i have seen

this are the cards that are good for overclocking

Stock cooling
1.XFX/EVGA/GAInward

Water cooling
1.EVGA/Asus

Extreme Cooling
1.EVGA/ASUS

XFX hmm so far on all the cards i have tried with vmod the increment is very little.

ok one hour run
hmm gee 4C difference because i on the room ceiling fan..

I never bothered to use ntune as I like to use rivatuner. You mean ntune will give a different temperature reading?

What's the difference between GPU temp and GPU core temp? hmm.gif

Let me get this straight:

-GPU temp = indicated by ATItool 2nd reading = ? overall GPU temp including ram and core???

-GPU core temp = by ntune = G80/G92 core temperature?

normally Ati tools will read gpu core temp

hmm dunno leh my everest cant read the 8800gt temps

on 8800gts/gtx/ultra
u can get all this info on everest

core clocks
shader clocks
mem clocks
Gpu temps
gpu core temps
mem temps
Gpu ambient temps

and usually ati tools will use GPu core temps

only can confirm the temps once the new ntune comes out
till then i remain skeptical on the temps reported

as u can see in my two post
its posting gpu temps
and not gpu core temps
hmm look at the maximus formula thread
there should be some examples there

hold your horses guys and girls...don't get carried away with this new subject (8800GT) we all have our reasons to say this or that....just put it in more mild manner...the other 8800 thread is getting explosive..all the energy can help to lower out Tenaga costs!!!...which btw will surely be going up real2 soon...

yup
dunno me lucky or what but this is the xfx cards that i have bought for the 2 months or so and their artifact free OC

8800gts 320mb 702/1728/2106
8800gtx 768 XXX 675/1674/2106

and not 8800gt at 720/1800/2100
( pointless really.. cause just run it 700/1750/2000 the difference is minimal on gaming)

hmm did anybody notice something else about the g92
no more jumps of 27 for core or 54 for shader and the rams also dont jump

whatever u set is what u get.

its minimal 700/1750/2000 vs 720/1800/2100
very little difference...

but hmm gaming impressive for a 256bit card.. actually like this card was blessed with the devils power or something (one piece devil fruit..kekeke)

benching not impressed yet... nothing great .. y i say this
cause its just the way it process shader games that i think changed nothing else
look at aqua which is a opengl intensive benchies... nothing much difference to the gts 1fps more only
someppl like to see 3dmark06/05
for me has always been aquamark...
so in that respective not impressed with this card
but on crysis it performs like magic..

thats the thing
it would suck

y
cause the new 780 mobo is just adding one more chip to support 3x16 bandwidth and pcie 2.0
no different from the 680

and i can tell u this
680 sux on rams efficiency
and proc.

what would have been awesome if i could have slied on the MAXImUS

wow..i can feel the intensity here...but not the positive side..not like a discussion anymore...more to like trying to proof who's the best with the best rig and the legend here..but in other people's thread..hahah..no offence..but pity for the TS..he's trying to do his best..i think nobody knows everything here..if u r then go work as pc engineer or software or hardware engineer..or whateverla..so juz give it a break..sharing opinion is good but not until pointing to other people's mistake and brag about it..give it a break man..im noob in pc but i can't understand what is the message here..when i checked the 1st page..waa..quite impressive and informative..but when getting to the later page..waa..things getting deeper and complex as if a professional engineer giving a presentation to their boss and try to proof that they are the one who actually created it..fuh..so i juz skip..not interested cuz i feel the flame and can't even understand..a nice thread become a war..haiyo..anything..juz keep it simple for other people to understand...cuz not only the so called engineers checking this thread..but noobs like me will want to look for some useful tips and infos...cuz we don't know..so we want to know and thats y we checked all the posts and threads..but in a easier to understand way..
sorry bros...juz my opinoin lar.. sweat.gif

no problem bro,u r welcome to share with us mah.
but i'm not an engineer and i'm not the one who created the intel x38 chipset or new nvidia chipset,so i dare not to justify their performance,i'm not that pro yet.

Hyde`fK,

Sorry to intrude but I remember you did put the Zalman 9V cooler on your Geforce 8800gt. How's the temperature like? Is noise as unbearable as the reference one at full speed?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have my card yet, and its the Zalman's fan where it wiring is screwed up, making my system short circuited, hence some parts faulty. T_T

Going to get my rig up soon, but my 8800GT won't arrive so soon yet. I can only mount the Zalman ZV9 heatsink only with a fan blowing the entire card.

Card not yet. Yea, direct connect to the mobo. Well, still can use the heatsink so it's not a waste yet.

hmm did anybody notice something else about the g92
no more jumps of 27 for core or 54 for shader and the rams also dont jump

What tool do you use for the OC ?

I'm using Rivatuner 2.06. The Core and memory clock have no problem but I still have a 54 MHz jump for the shaders clock. I pass from 1674 to 1728 when I set the clock from 1700 to 1705. I have no problem at 1674 but at 1728 I got immediately lot of artifacts in ATI tool (I only use ATI tool to load the GPU, I use Rivatuner to set the clocks).

I'd like to try some values in the middle but I can't icon_question.gif

The Zalman ZV9 fan is powerful enought to blow the entire card, but for this long card i think have to tune to certain fan speed for sufficient air flow to blow the entire card.

put little heatsinks on the power reg area.. or u can diy a fan to blow at that end.. zalman bracket fan would be useful. altough best would be tt duorb, which isnt readily available here. btw abt changing heatsinks for this gpu, correct me if im wrong but i think it doesnt have an ihs like them 88gts/gtx.. so u gotta be extra careful.

We human are not perfect..so juz be tolerate and don't bla..bla..say ur wrong..im right..no point here..nobody will say ur the greastest..believe me..in this forum..nobody will be impressed..unless u do some lecture and maybe live demo..then..i can 100% believe and impressed..
So..haiyo..be friend lar..boring already..hoping to get short and simple answer for all the hardware stuff but all i c here..
Blaaaa...blaa...u..me..
Hahaha..
Im not trying to bodek anybody..but i think this thread is all about what bro Ace and his 8800GT..He did what he could with something to show..so keep it like that lar..don't go to other topic..
Wanna bla..bla..send via PM..we don't need to know..
hahaha..now seems like im the one who..bla..bla..
but seriously..im confused already..not about the hardware..but about what the hell u all talking about
Not interesting at all

XFX ADE quite expensive le.... The price is the same as Zotac AMP edition.... Zotac one cost asbout RM930 in bulk...

The price for XFX Xtreme and EVGA SSC is almost the same although XFX clock speed is just 640/660 core.... sweat.gif

Overclocking not a sport for me bro not really
thats y i try to post benchies

i try to post more realistic 24/7 clocks
and then i actually game on them

i am a gamer first
overclocker second.
reason for overclocking is to get my moneys worth for the graphic cards i paid for.. which u must overclock the rams etc.

For me, I overclock to get more value for my parts. However, I'm not too worried about lifespan as computer parts either last a long time or kaput very fast irregardless of whether you OC or not. I just don't OC to the max as I don't want them to kaput TOO fast. Usually bring down the OC just a little lower than max OC..... smile.gif

well looks ok
just try to run ure bus speed 1:1 to ure rams
the multiplier and vcore up to ure cooling solution

also dude are u running 3 gigs of rams on 64/32
ure rams are not optimized and not running in dual channel for ure info..
its much slower
either run 2 or 4

also score looks alright..

the designer for crysis said
that the game stresses proc first , gpu second, rams third
more on proc hence i stress on the bus

u can go and look at all the 8800gt sli scores out there
at E6600@ 2.4 400x6 performance
with two 8800gt sli 700/1750/2000
ure scores for the sm3 and sm2 higher since my fsb is running in 1:1 with the rams

Hi everybody,

I bought a Zalman FC-V9 heatsink, Zalman Super Thermal Grease and Vizo Copper Heatsink today for my Zotac Geforce 8800GT earlier today.

Apparently it does fit, sorry I was too excited I did not take any photos of my graphic card with the new cooler on.

Idle temp ranges from 39c to 43c and load is about 50-51c.

The best part is that even at the highest speed for this cooler, it's no where as annoying as the stock cooler @ 60-70%.

Cheers,

Ken

damn it...this heat wall thingy is bothering me..
at stock when i run artifact scanning, the load goes up to 89 celcius!!
crap...

if i invest in a vga cooler to bring down the temp to 50s, will it help?
right now, i can max out at 670/2000, but anymore it's unstable. I can run 3dmark at 700/2000 with no glitch but when i start a game, it doesn't last longer than 10mins...
any ideas?

i kinda figured this is all to wet our appetite for something bigger. that's why i got this GT cause it's kinda cheaper and can probably last me until the 9s come out.
I heard it'll be Q1 2008.
Anyway, will it be based on the G9n core? Cause if it is then the HR-03 rev.A should fit them too right?

(....i am very preoccupied with hr-03 right now...)

is that thin fan on the hr-03 efficient in getting rid of heat off the sink? and is it loud?

by the way, nice set up..thinking of getting the evga 680i but then the 790i is coming out next year.

problem is now that it's impossible to get the hr-03 gt version..

add: how long should i run scan artifact in atitool to consider stable? if i ran 1 hour with no error is that stable?

Wow! The casing is sooooo big! Even my smaller HEAVY casing already difficult to carry around, especially if something is wrong and need to send it to the shop. Big casing how? Buy trolley put at home? hmm.gif

The fans r good. It's about the same performance as a 90mm fan i tested with. Just louder coz it has to spin faster. For sli no choice hafta use the slim fans.

bout the hr03. i think the hr03 rev a can use. just dont haf sinks for v regs or sumthin. later when i get a chance to play with them oni i'll know for sure.

The n680i is the best right now. so if u need sli mobo then no choice. or else get a n650i for now. when n780i come then change. i wanted the best for now so i went for Striker Extreme anyway. later new mobo come then change again. smile.gif

i just ran 670/2000 with 3dmark, load was about 85-87C and it hit 90 for a few seconds then mostly at 85..with stock fan and stock speed
is that normal?

i tried running at 700/2000 again this time (with stock fan and stock speed) but cannot, 3dmark keeps crashing.

add: tried 700/2000 again with 100% fan speed and it worked. max temp was about 63C.
oh well...i guess i really need to invest in a HR-03...you know where i can get one in penang AceCombat?

my msi 8800gt has the similar temperature with yours.
default speed 660/1900, idle at 60 fulload at 90.
i use rivatuner to set the fan speed always on 68%, current temp idle 55, fulload 80-85.

92c?
Oh my that's very hot.
Well, the default fan speed on the card is like 30% try setting it to 50-60%, I have tried both of those fan speed which is pretty alright. Anything above 60++% will bugged me.

I suggest getting a 3rd party cooler. Like I did, Zalman CNPS900LED or the Fatality version, Artic Cooling ( NV Silencer 5 will fit but the ram wont be cover coz they are spread quite far away in 8800gt), Thermalright (which I think is the best but it's far too big with or without the fan)

My temp for the card is 48-52c @ load and <45c @ idle and the noise from my Zalman was even quiter than the stock cooler @ 60%.

Hope this helps.

i not suggested you to do so
the older version AC cooling fan is not performing well at new gen cards

btw, suggest u to go for AC Accelero S2. it works rclxms.gif
