Dredging my memory from the time i was 2" early this century...Walmart had applied for business license in BolehLand but was denied. In 2018 when govt said it was easing restrictions against foreign superstores, they applied again. Nothing but crickets since then. With this kind of atmosphere, no surprise that there's no Costco here

How would regulations be enforced when we have had a clusterfuck of government changes?

I think Makro closed shop, Carrefour closed shop, Tesco closed shop, Giant semi closing shop, … Hypermarket is not profitable business in Malaysia … If you are Costco or Sams Club, still want to try?

It’s a completely different model…Costco have food (dollar hot dogs etc) and gas stations attached to their outlets, so it’s like an ecosystem itself.

I do enjoy shopping at Costco outlets in Aussie, prices are competitive and the products are interesting. Bought plenty of CK 3 pack boxer briefs for less than AUD 30.

Apparently some Costco outlets have started selling Mazda cars as well..

No need to go to US Costco to experience it. Costco Japan and Taiwan also got liao.

you can ask the same about issuing licenses as well.
Yet we're still here today, having survived a pandemic and such clusterfucks. BolehLand life plods on...without walmart and costco.

Not really the same, policies change depending on who is at the helm and their interests, while license issuance is pretty much well-endowed and established procedures. Changing the rules will go a long way because it will affect the relevant Acts which need parliamentary seating and votings to take place.
