How about the older Maxis Postpaid 98 plan that I'm still subscribed to? They no longer offer this now, the equivalent 5G plan is Maxis Postpaid 109.

Appreciate if anyone can shed any clarity on this.

Which is why I said, the equivalent plan is now RM109.

Regardless, I just checked my phone, my Maxis postpaid 98 plan is still locked to 4G.

Check is there any 5G add-on in Maxis app? They have already allow 5g for hotlink postpaid with 0 cost, just need to activate within the addon section of the app.
The new postpaid 79 has more quota though if compared with old 98 plan.

The 109, 139, 169 all inclusive of the earlier RM11 5G price...I also wondered if they are going to revert...but doubt that.

Don't think that's going to change. It is disguised and rebranded as the "new" 5G plan, and old plan discontinued.

Old plan discontinued for new buyers, but those on the existing plans get to retain it. But there's no 5G!!!

you should be able to get it from here.

I am on the old 158 plan, and I signed up the so called free 1 month 5G access, since then Maxis didn't charge me RM11 for 5G activation, and I am continue enjoying it under 158 with 5G now.

Yes I am using Hotlink Postpaid 40. In the page to activate 5G, it gave 2 option which is to upgrade to postpaid 70 or try out 5g for free on existing plan (auto renew monthly with no charges).

109 has higher quota than 98 so is not an equivalent plan but a total new plan …

People subscribe new plan cause want higher quota or want to buy new phone with subsidy …

Else i dont see what is the motivation … cause old plan also can have 5G, so 5G definitely not the reason subscribe to the new plan …

Previously, to get 5G people have 2 choices:
1. Plan 98 + RM10 (never charge now FOC) = 5G
2. Plan 109 = 5G

If 5G is the reason, you would have chosen #1 like most people to pay RM10 to get 5G which now Fahmi prohibit charge of RM10 (which Maxis never charge from beginning)

So people who go Plan 109 are looking for more quota or new phone… not 5G.

I dont believe if you say to get 5G you decide to pay RM11 instead of RM10 previously …

For me, using Maxis for quite some time already, years I mean. Previously Maxis is given 1 month free to try out this 5G (via 5G access pass), which until now, is the same, you have to activated (subscribe) in order to use. Then after 1 month, previously, if you continue subscribed, your monthly bill will kena charged RM10 extra. Yesterday I went into the Maxis app and notice it mentioned, right now is "free". So, doing the same process, subscribed this 5G access pass, then turn on the phone 5G as preferred connection (mine is Xiaomi 13) and everything went ok.

However, I notice, the 5G connection is not that stable, like about 40% of the time, it is either very slow 5G connection or it will drop back to 4G+. I tested in Mid Valley + KL Eco City area.

I just don't feel like I am really getting high speed, anyhow, just my "feeling" as I not like testing the speed while browsing, listen to song, watching clip inside FB. But I notice when watching clip inside FB, it got buffering, which during that time, it is connected as 5G.

Oh ya, btw, just for info, I am currently still in postpaid 98.

Last time I got "baited" by Maxis team into upgrading from the old RM98 to RM109 plan (since it's only RM1 more expensive compared to RM98+RM10). Now I don't think I can revert to old plan.

And the 5G isn't stable, what a waste of money.

Call 123 to check if got contract or not? If no contract better downgrade to postpaid 79, more quota compare to old 98 plan.
Malaysia 5g is still long way to go, just look at how 4g coverage after 10 years, you will know

Yeah unfortunately I can't downgrade to RM79 plan because I have a supplementary line.

I'm current paying RM109 + RM48 (for shared line).

Strictly speaking, is Maxis and Hotlink coverage the exact same? I see Hotlink postpaid also have free calls/SMS, does it work the same way as free calls/SMS as Maxis postpaid?

What's the catch, how come Hotlink postpaid is cheaper?

Both Maxis Hotlink had same coverage also 5G works flawlessly.
Also Hotlink Maxis also doesn't charge for calls sms as Maxis
Only drawback was Only with Maxis you can buy high end smartphone with Zerolution contract where as Hotlink only offer lower end phones

Sounds good, that's a lot of difference. The only drawback is pay separately instead of 1 bill.

Never mind that, as long as can save more. In this day when everything is expensive, just got to switch to cheaper plan if not really need those quota

Yes, that monthly difference can actually be used to pay for other subscriptions.

If both Maxis and Hotlink does indeed have the same coverage, it's a much better plan.

So Digi if wan access 5G for low tier such as Digi Postpaid 40 (2021) still need to pay RM10 in order to get 10GB + 5G access?

Am so confuse after reading the statement =.=
"However, if you’re on Xpax or Digi Postpaid 40 or 60 Plan, 5G Boosters are still required to enjoy 5G. "

The subscription name of Digi change from 5G Booster to "10GB (4G 5G) RM10"

Meaning 5G still not free after Fahmi Announcement?

Yes need to pay. They disguised it in the name of booster by offering additional quota on top. Please lodge report as mentioned by MCMC if you still get charge for 5G.

Nothing comes free man. The telcos fork out tons of $$$ to obtain 5G license and that what-ever wholesale thing...and now you expect to it be free? Not possible. They will likely to rebundle with new (higher) pricing disguised as promo packages.

5G through single wholesale network was supposed to be cheaper than 4G. 5G infrastructure built by DNB it's our money (duit rakyat) .

Last year December only 5 big Telco signed agreement to have 70% stake of DNB. But golden share still owned by government.
Government will still retain it's 30% stake of DNB. Each Telco just inject RM233 million, to get their respective 14% stakes of the 5G network. 5 Malaysia Telco now own an accumulative stake of 70%. Each Telco earn 14% equity evenly in DNB .

5G untuk Rakyat or 5G untuk buat duit melalui rakyat 🤣🤣

Maxis dupe everybody on this. They should revert their packages to previous prices back.

See, it's not really free for some folks. One has to subscribe to higher tier to obtain "free" 5G. That's not really free. Those on legacy (low value) package is not likely going to get "free" 5G access.

Gov only ensure principal line can have free 5G at same price or lower. You are expected to downgrade one plan to get cheaper price for primary with 5g. Gov celebrated this.

Those benefits and perks like cheaper sublines are not within scopes.

Talk & Surf Principal 1. It's really ancient. I have been a Maxis customer since they started. They transferred me some years ago. It has 1 Gb of data and some minutes of free calls and SMS.

What's the difference between Hotlink and Maxis packages?

For comparison, Hotlink Postpaid is for mid range users, Maxis Postpaid for high end and Hotlink Prepaid for low end users. Just have to find one that suit the price range i.e. how much willing to spend for mobile services.

At that price you been paying i think can get 4GB (with 5G) and unlimited calls and sms with the lowest RM30 Hotlink Postpaid.

But Maxis been quiet since you been paying RM30 for 1GB and some call minutes.

I am paying RM 40 for 1 Gb and some call and SMS minutes so Hotlink Postpaid 30 sounds like better value.

Is the network coverage the same and can I roam when I am overseas?

Also, if I make the switch, can I keep my number?

Dude, Hotlink Postpaid = Maxis Postpaid. 100% the same. Well worth the switch.

Plus, you get free 5GB every month (need to redeem for free in the Hotlink app), and another additional free 5GB after 6 months (auto added to your monthly quota).

Roaming is possible but there are differences in term of roaming charges package available for both.

Yes you can keep number.

Best if you go to the center and ask them about it … different users have different usage patterns and needs.

Maxis better many terms as Digi and Maxis user only problem is Maxis still lacking indoor 4G coverage

Umobile as well, if they improve indoor coverage then it is a serious challenger to Celcomdigi.

Your plan is way too outdated in 2024. Change to Hotlink postpaid 30 or postpaid 40, depending on how much data you need.
You can read more on Hotlink Postpaid roaming from the below link.

I went to the Maxis Centre. International roaming is not available for Hotlink post paid packages below 60 ie. 30 and 45. The service attendant advised me that it means I am unable to purchase a separate roaming pass to add on. Nor can I latch on to a local service provider in the country I visit and pay as I go. I was quite surprised at this. This seems contrary to what I have read here and the Hotlink website does not indicate this. There is a possibility that the service attendant may be misinformed - that isn't surprising given the poor quality of Maxis service staff I have encountered.

Can anyone confirm that is indeed the case or not?

If it is, then that doesn't work for me.

My package as it is allows me to roam internationally so I guess even with the 1 Gb domestic data limitation, it probably is the best available package for my needs.

Gov only ensure principal line can have free 5G at same price or lower. You are expected to downgrade one plan to get cheaper price for primary with 5g. Gov celebrated this.

Those benefits and perks like cheaper sublines are not within scopes.

yeah, so? my principal line will be more expensive by RM20.
downgrade one plan? what you mean? thats the lowest they have and i still need to pay extra rm20.

u working for celcom digi issit?

The 109, 139, 169 all inclusive of the earlier RM11 5G price...I also wondered if they are going to revert...but doubt that.
*
I have complain Maxis on this until MCMC level. Why my plan 109 did not deduct the RM10 extra charged for 5G services.

Maxis customer care called me to clarify the matter.

1) Plan 109, 139, 169 was a totally new plan with built in 5G services in it + increase of datapool.
For new user/ port in user who want this to sign up a plan, this will be the plan.

2) Existing user with old plan, like me using plan 98, if i don't want to change plan and do not need the extra datapool but i want 5G service only, then i need to top up RM10.00 for 5G.
This is the RM10.00 YB Fahmi was talking about. Telco cannot charge Extra for 5G service.
i found out from another forum, some people who actually paid the RM10 monthly for this get their RM10 waived recently. so now he is paying for RM98 monthly and also get 5G.

So i have scolded them, your service advisor at the Maxis center have mislead me.
I was told add RM10.00 for 5G services, that is why the new plan 109 was there.
So he asked me to sign up this new plan.
now i cannot revert back to my old plan, and i am paying extra RM11 monthly and not you, what you gonna do?
finally they waived 1 month billing for me.

Thanks so much for that.

It sucks that the Maxis service staff themselves do not know what they are selling.

This is the chart he showed me to justify what he said. I asked again to confirm and he said emphatically that he had processed many of these plans and knew for sure and that if I didn't believe him, I could try when I go overseas and be stranded without being able to roam.

Unfortunately, it looks like I cannot switch as Maxis now tells me the plan is only for new registration, port in or conversion from Hotlink Prepaid plan.

Has anyone gone from Maxis to a lower priced Hotlink Postpaid plan and kept their number before?

2) Convert to any telco's prepaid line or even Hotlink Prepaid line
3) wait 24 hours later (not sure these days got this cool time or not) and visit Maxis again says wanna port into Hotlink Postpaid 30/40/45 - 40 probably no longer exist right now.

Hahaha, some service staff not really serve lower plan customer, instead trying to chase sales KPI. The solution for your case, ask to switch to Hotlink prepaid. After that you switch to Hotlink postpaid. I think switch to prepaid can also done via calling Maxis CS.
