i said it doesnt matter much, youtube still supporting h264 and vp9 if client device doesnt support AV1.
running AV1 only benefiting youtube as the bitrate is lower.

if the client device doesnt support av1, streaming service will not push av1 version of the stream, so it still power efficient running the old codec.
anyway, if you already have existing device, it is best to keep the device as long as we could instead of buying a new device just because it support additional codec.

this is why i dont buy low-end chipset lel, the cpu is just too weak to decode video via software decoding laugh.gif
i bet my old 3570k can decode 4k av1 video@30fps.
