Feel free to ask me anything regarding this topic.

Strongly recommend to experience this at least once in your lifetime

Useful tips:
1. Season is from September to April
2. Recommended location: Tromsø outskirts. City has too much light pollution. Northern Finland, Iceland, Svalbard,  central scandinavia also possible
3. Spend to go on a tour that offers professional photos for memories. The last thing you want are worthless photos from all the money spent and suffering sub-zero temperatures
4. Stay for a week. Weather is difficult to predict and is usually the biggest obstacle
5. Moon cycles when it is new moon is when sky is the darkest
6. Peak of 11 year solar cycle is expected in 2025. Next year or 2025 is still a good time
7. If on tight budget, book flights, hotels and buy winter clothes way in advance
8. Download aurora apps. Aurora Reach seems the most useful to me
9. Use long shutter time, wide aperture and/or night mode when taking photos
10. Photos will look better than in real life, be prepared for that!

Nope. I was 3 days in Tromsø, 3 days in Svalbard: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=5395991&hl=

Basically in Tromsø, I spent 1 day at a Reindeer farm reindeer, feeding reindeer, eating reindeer stew and doing reindeer sleeding (which was very mild)
Then 1 night to catch the northern lights, and 1 day to explore the town. I went during Christmas, so it was more festive with a lot of nicely decorated shops

In Svalbard, I spent 1 day dog sledding (which was way more fun), 1 night catching the northern lights (which wasn't as good as Tromsø) and 1 day just hanging around the town (which was basically 1 street)
Despite the extremely small town, I was quite surprised they had really nice places to eat. I tried whale and seal meat (even their burgers was excellent). Oh, and they had the huskey cafe as well which is where the retired sledding dogs "work" after retiring

Yes, got data connection. Both places part of Norway

Outside might be freezing cold, but inside is always nice and warm

Svalbard has a lot of snow that doesn't melt away during winter (because there is no sunlight)
