Buy a foreign SIM at Lazada/Shopee is much cheaper than buying a roaming pass.
*
Some people don’t want that hassle. Like my father he rather pay for the roaming pass then buy another sim.

Yes, existing user.
But for his case, buy a new Malaysia SIM then buy a roaming pass.

for a 3gb/day sim card will be much more expensive on lzd/shopee. and their speed and ping is unknown.

you need mobile data for transit?

my monthly low data consumption had me leaning towards hotlink pantas atm, both network signal for digi and hotlink which i’ve been testing for a couple of months are more or less similar at my area including where i frequent visit.

since most of my family members are using hotlink prepaid, the benefit of credit transfer (which digi removed silently) and the instant in receiving sms is still very convenient for my use case.
home have unifi anyway, telco family plan not suitable for me currently or perhaps may happen in the near future 😁

btw: recently encountered digi keep loading during raining days where hotlink remains stable
